I love the sculpture of Apollo and Daphne.

So much movement and emotion frozen in cold, white marble.

MuttonCadet · 11/07/2015 12:24

Anything by Richard Rowan, he paints on glass and the pictures look lit from within.

I have a limited edition print, saving for a painting.

Any one of Monet's 'Waterlillies'.

Any one of Monet's 'Waterlillies'. The colours are wonderful.

somewhere, that sculpture made the hairs on my back stand! I have no words!
My favourite is a Mondrian, scroll down please, it's the 7th image. Looks like random crosses. See if you can see an image :)

Lady Agnew of Locknaw by John Singer Sargent

Saw this in the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh and it stopped me in my tracks

I don't know how to upload a picture but here is a link to my favourite painting.

I just love the colours and the peacefulness. I've seen it many times in theh National Gallery in Dublin and I just love to stare at it for ages. I used to have a big poster of it in my house. It got tatty. I think I'll replace it.

Sgtmajormummy · 30/06/2015 20:06

I had a preparatory sketch (not the original!) for this painting on loan to me when I lived on campus in the last year of University. Seeing it reminds me how fortunate I was to go there at that time, and the feeling of potential and promise as we were about to move into the real world.
Louis le Brocquy, Head of Samuel Beckett.

SomewhereIBelong, that sculture is to remember aborted children. It pisses me off, to be honest, because that decision is tough enough without a public scultupre to make me feel even more guilty.

Chesntoots · 27/06/2015 08:22

I love Serena Hall paintings. They always make me happy, so full of bright colours. I would love an original.

There is an artist in Lanzarote that paints the local goats, they all have names and their expressions are really comical. He is called Dominic Murray. He also does still life etc, but the goats are hilarious. The gallery is called Cabra Cabra (can't link because I'm a bit shit...)

Thanks Soot and Gallic. No it isn't the Sargent one :-( mine has 3/4/5 girls very cherubic looking with flower headdresses and jars with fireflies are much smaller. Wish I was an artist then I could reproduce it!!!!!

GallicCunt · 10/03/2015 15:31

:) Soot. It must have impressed us both!

OnlyLovers · 10/03/2015 15:29

I can't pick just one ...

I love this Rembrandt. That light on that face. Mesmerises and moves me every time.

The Rothko Room at Tate Modern (although I think they've changed it now?) was like going into a cathedral. I find him generally uplifting, expansive ... awesome in the proper sense. I also loved his black paintings that someone else showed us upthread.

Francis Bacon's screaming popes. Deeply disturbing. So powerful.

Velazquez, generally, but mainly his court portraits. They really seem like real
people, dressed up in their best and playing their parts, but you can see the personalities and sometimes the sadness beneath.

Sootgremlin · 10/03/2015 15:29

X-post gallic - guess you meant the same one!

Sootgremlin · 10/03/2015 15:29

It wasn't Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose linked by a pp, ladybird69? It sound remarkably similar. If not you might like it anyway! John Singer Sargent.

GallicCunt · 10/03/2015 15:20

It wasn't this one, linked upthread, was it ladybird? It's about 5ft high.

ladybird69 · 10/03/2015 15:07

If you'd asked me a few years ago I'd have said I hated Van Goghs paintings but then I watched a Dr Who episode about him and found that I actually love some of his! Who knew Dr Who was educational.
Unfortunately I'll never know the name of my favourite painting :-( I saw a photo of it in a magazine in Drs waiting room and never seen it since :-( stupidly didn't copy name of artist.
It was huge hanging in a Gallery or house as there were people standing looking at it on the wall.
The painting was little girls in a glade possibly around a pond. They had garlands of flowers On their heads and I think they were carrying jars with fireflies in them. It was absolutely beautiful and I feel quite sad when I think I'll never see it again

Your Mick

ArtyBat · 10/03/2015 14:48

LoveLifeDeathHope - Mackenzie Thorpe This man had such a way with Skies. They were huge, overwhelming and breathtaking!

Is Yor Mick coming Out?' - Mackenzie Thorpe* This takes me back to my childhood when calling for friends to come out and play. The adults that opened the door invariably seemed as giants to me, in fact the whole world was giant - sized to my child - sized view. He captures this feeling perfectly.

I was just wondering who More Turner was - never heard of that artist.

Then I realised you meant more by Turner.

Today is a struggle.

ArtyBat · 10/03/2015 14:38

Hundertwasser really inspires me. Love his use of colour and line.
