to think that I might still be able to find a small monkey toy to replace the one my ds lost 3 three years ago?

DS loves monkeys and has collected them since he was tiny. This one was his favourite- it used to be mine, and was over 20 years old so they don’t sell them any more. He somehow took it into town with him and lost it well over three years ago now. He’s now 6. But at regular intervals since then he has cried again about losing it. The latest time was this week. I have scoured the internet, ebay and car boot sales but have never been able to find one. I tried contacting the shop it was bought from but that hit a deadend too. I think it was a ‘russ’ something. The actual monkey was about the size of a toddler’s hand- it was tiny, probably only about 4 inches long and it was filled with tiny beans.

I know I need to let it go, and I know its one of life’s lessons, but I would so love to track one down for him. If anyone has any bright ideas or has one of these monkleys (I would pay obviously!!), please let me know

Awww. I have a bunny too which has survived the years and is still with me! I would be heartbroken to lose her even now.

Jinsei · 15/05/2014 22:26

Ah, bless you curious, I'd love to find him again, but I don't think I have any photos and I probably couldn't describe him very accurately. I left him on a coach when I was on the way to see my grandparents. My parents spent years assuring me that he'd probably found a very good home, but I always wondered what had happened to him. :(

curiousuze · 15/05/2014 22:17

jinsea do you want us to look for your bunny too?

Mrsdoasyouwouldbedoneby · 15/05/2014 22:15

This makes me miss my ET toy my dad threw away when he moved (before I could claim it). To be fair. He did warn me... Except I was at uni in Plymouth and didn't drive at the time. (He was in another seaside town some 3 hrs up the coast, no rail link). :-(. He also made me give away a doll my grandad bought me, because I was too big for dolls. (Not straight after, but I had kept it for several yrs and my grandad had died). Still feel the pain.

This close? m.ebay.com/itm/281101055525?nav=SEARCH

Oo winner. Saw that one too. Perhaps too dark, but think you are onto something.

winnertakesitall · 15/05/2014 22:00

Okay.. this now has mono-coloured hands and feet- but is the face right?

God this takes me back! I lost a toy bunny as a child and cried for years afterwards. It was before the days of Internet and eBay, of course, but my parents tried and tried to find a replacement. I still get a bit teary about it even now!!

Really hope you find a substitute, OP!

lovessummer · 15/05/2014 21:58

Bardette- close but that one is bigger than ours
plus2- yes he is like curious george - not surprisingly ds is a fan! But he's not quite curious geroge

Who knew there were so many tiny monkeys out there?! Seriously impressed with everyon'e searching skills

winnertakesitall · 15/05/2014 21:52

Yay!! Closest so far... (competitive, moi?!)

lovessummer · 15/05/2014 21:50

Mrsdoasyou- both of those are a bit darker than ours
Winner- that is the closest so far! But yes- different colour hands (and ours didn't have a heart)- but makes me realise it really must have been a Russ. Have been researching 'Russ' to try to get to the headquarters, but it seems they have closed down now. Damn. So the only way I will find one now I guess is if one comes up on ebay or if someone on mumsnet has got one kicking around their house! So frustrating

He looks like curious George. Google russ toys curious George and there are links to some on amazon.

Bardette · 15/05/2014 21:48

I want to play! Is it this one?

winnertakesitall · 15/05/2014 21:44

Nuts... different coloured hands!

winnertakesitall · 15/05/2014 21:42

Your one looks very similar to this one... without the heart! Is there any chance you/someone else may have snipped the heart off when you were small? www.cuddlycollectibles.com/Russ%20Berrie/russ_berrie_valentine's_day_plush_monkies.htm

lovessummer · 15/05/2014 21:35

Ours didn't have pale feet- his legs are all the same colour and that one (Mulligan) is bigger than ours- but really appreciate your efforts!

Neverwasacornflakegirl · 15/05/2014 21:34

No it's not Mulligan - rats.
Mulligan has light ish feet.
