Tell me about a random unsolved mystery in your life....

I'm only at page 20 so not sure if anyone else mentioned it but have seen a lot of people with dogs knowing when their owner will be home. I read somewhere before that as the person leaves in the morning their smell will get fainter and fainter, when the person comes home their smell is strong again and so the dog can judge when they'll be home by smelling how faint their smell is and therefore being able to tell the time this way and hence knowing when they're due back. As for unscheduled times then I would think it can work the opposite too and the dogs can just smell when the owner is getting near. Even if the owner is a good few streets away the dog can smell them as a person would be able to smell faint burning from a fire etc. Pretty cool!

My dog always knows when DP will be home and sits next to the door and starts whining before I even see his car come into the street. (And I could be upstairs so the dog can't see me looking but I can hear him whining and waiting) this even happens if DP is home early or at different times.

Anyway I have a small unsolved mystery but it isn't very exciting. I used to have a very expensive bracelet that I'd received as a gift. It had a very tight clasp and was too small to have fallen off. I went to a BBQ and was sure I wore it, when I got home it wasn't on my wrist though and I couldn't imagine how it had fallen off. My mum said she never saw me wear it that day and so I checked the box where I kept it and it wasn't there either, it just vanished! Realistically it must have fallen off somewhere but I had only gone from my house to the car and to a relatives house, we checked the rooms in both houses that I had been in, the car and the space from car to front door and found nothing. So annoying!

I suppose if you were woo.... which I'm not, you could summize that the random objects that turn up are the same random objects that mysteriously vanish from someone else who knows that they just put them down/dropped them.

Someone somewhere probably found a curly wurly in the middle of the floor a few seconds after the poster upthread through one at the tv that then vanished.

And someone once put those buttons down on a table and then they vanished.

Sorry, dfg, what I had appear was a pair of pearl stud earrings, only about 4mm in diameter each.

Has anyone had a pearl stud earring suddenly appear in their home? About a quarter inch diameter. I dropped it in my bedroom years ago when I was standing in front of my chest of drawers. Despite emptying all the drawers and shaking out all the clothes I never found it. With all these items appearing/disappearing I just wondered if anyone had seen it

I don't think I can manage a better picture. It is a lion rampant on the stud, two branches around it and the bottom is just some curlicues. I'm in the US, Jayne.

I've tried enlarging them, the SOS does look like a shirt stud or a tie stud. There seems to be a lion rampant, and something at the bottom, another animal, which makes it look like a family crest possibly? It is so interesting! I am fascinated. I am mulling over how you can find out more. How on earth could they have got there? An animal? Quite extraordinary.

The little screw one might be a shirt stud. What else is on the SOS one, is it a little cherub? Hard to tell. Could you get a more close up picture? Are the images under glass or under a layer of celluloid or neither? Also is there a mark on the back anywhere? I am trying to roughly date them.

Could you take them to an antique shop and show them? Maybe they could tell you something about them that might be relevant? Seems so strange.

The one says S.O.S., yes, and the other is a man. The man is a button? And the S.O.S I think is a tie pin, but it's not a normal pin back, it's like a little screw, and I couldn't get the back all the way off.

LettertoHermioneGranger, what are they? They look like buttons to me. Is that a picture of a man on the right?

Tb discussion make me so sad. DF's mother died of it when he was 3 - he was an evacuee at the time. His dad remarried and he had a horrible childhood - stepmum had a daughter and they didn't want him around, so farmed out to rellies. His Dad drank and gambled, and when he passed the 11+ they wouldn't let him go the grammar school as it was a waste of time. Luckily he lived to see his grandsons have a very happy education at the top-performing school in the country. Sorry for the hijack.

TB discussions above interesting. My DM's dad died when she was 4/5, and I've always known that it was 'TB caused by mustard gas poisoning from WW1'. Makes me wonder if that was a way of trying to make is more 'respectable'. Funnily enough, a few years ago DM was told that she had had TB as a child, they could tell from a lung xray, although she never had any knowledge of it, nor longterm issues.

Hijack over - sorry!

I woke up at 5.30 this morning, got out of bed and visited the bathroom, went to get back in to bed and there was a red pencil crayon right where I had been sleeping. DD hasn't had any crayons in my room and knows she isn't allowed crayons upstairs. The bed covers are white and have been on a few days so I would have spotted a red crayon! I was in bed alone as DH is working away, DD was till asleep in her room.

Where did it come from?

I lost my best ever tongs when DH fitted the new kitchen and a gorgeous brand new black bra when in honeymoon . Anyone got them?

On a camping trip almost 10 years ago I 'lost' my pyjama bottoms. I definitely had them when we went to leave as that morning I hadn't had a shower as we had to leave the site at 10am, so I took them off in my tent, packed everything away (absolutely nothing left behind) and came home and They had disappeared! I don't know where they hell they managed to go between my tent being packed up and home!

They weren't still in the tent as I put it up to air and checked,not in my suitcase, no one else brought them home, not in the dirt washing or my car....just gone. I loved those PJs.

With all this matter disappearing from one place or appearing in another, can anyone please let me know if my kitchen scissors have suddenly appeared in your house, please?

We had a cat that brought home a cooked but uneaten whole leg of lamb and also various other meat 'cuts' in varying stages of defrosting.
