Things that you used to do as a child repetitively and now think "WTF?!"

The hot chocolate thread got me thinking about this. For some reason, I used to tip a full glass of water onto the carpet, the same patch of carpet, every single day. No clue why. I was asked to stop, but I just did it anyway Confused

I ate chalk too, like the chalk kids draw with. Both of these things happened until high school age?!

Anything utterly random and repetitive you may have done?

I used to eat chunks of pencil. I would chew the wood til a piece splintered off then. Would chew and chew until I could swollow it. I didn't like eating the lead though as it didn't taste nice. I also ate bits of paper.

RoonilWazlibWuvsHermyown · 18/09/2013 21:44

I have a bit of a gross one too. When I had a cabin bed, I used to pick my nose right before bed and wipe it behind the headboard bit. When they were all nice and dry, maybe a few weeks later when I had a nice collection, I'd run my hands over them until one by one they all fell on the floor behind my bed. It was very fun!

soaccidentprone · 18/09/2013 21:43

I used to cut a chunk of cheese and then spread butter on top, then eat!

I also used to eat raw rhubarb dipped in sugar.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:43

'Flannel-sucking book-eater' - it sounds like a Shakesperean insult.

You cur, you scoundrel, you ^flannel-sucking book-eater'.

Haggischucker · 18/09/2013 21:41

Another sponge eater here and loose threads on towels, yuk! :(

BOF · 18/09/2013 21:40

I was a flannel-sucking book-eater too Grin.

The water spilling is just WEIRD though.

ILovePonyo · 18/09/2013 21:39

GrinGrin At being like a horse Grin

When I was about 9 or so I would make 'puppets' out of my hands and make them talk to each other when I was in bed. Like birds and rabbits etc.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:39

This thread has a one way ticket to classics. I have tears of mirth rolling down my face.

I thought my wotsits confession would kill the thread dead. I cannot believe others used to do similar, that's the last thing I expected!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/09/2013 21:39

I used to get out of bed and sleep on the floor.

And my friend and I once decided to collect old bottles we found in local area..alcohol ones. Strangely, my mum wasn't too impressed with that one

MooncupGoddess · 18/09/2013 21:36

Mmm, the flannel smell.

I used to keep used plasters in a special tin. And stick the sticky labels from new packets of socks and the like on my bedroom wall.

RoonilWazlibWuvsHermyown · 18/09/2013 21:36

I used to run around the house on all fours like a horse. I was about nine or ten and did this for weeks even though my mum would tell me to stop it. I loved being a horse.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:36

I used to play with my dad's snooker balls. For hours. It was epic.

The pink was the princess. Blue was the prince. Her lover, not her brother.

The reds were the city guards.

Black and brown were the evil one and his wizard.

Yellow and green were the king and the good magician.

The evil one and his wizard would kidnap the princess from under the nose of the guards and the king, prince and magician would try to rescue her.

maddywest · 18/09/2013 21:36

Ha ha I did the crisp paste thing too! Obviously NOT WEIRD AT ALL as there's so many of us!

TurnOffTheTv · 18/09/2013 21:34

Crisp paste freaks of the worl unite! Are you talking about salt 'n' shake? I bought some for the children last week and it took me all my willpower not to do it.
It's beyond freaky that three of us did it!l

ILovePonyo · 18/09/2013 21:34

Loving this thread, WHY are kids so weird?!

Feel a bit sick after reading about the crisp and wotsit chewing and spitting out and using as a DIP ShockShock

I was gross though. I used to pick my nose then wipe it onto my head board then run my hand along it to wipe off the hardened ones

I also used to make myself butter cream by mixing random quantities of marg (not butter) and icing sugar together then scoffing the lot Hmm

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 18/09/2013 21:31

Ewww at the crisp-dip thing Shock Grin

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:29

Haha! Fucking, yes! I am not the only crisp-paste freak.

What the fuck were they putting into our free milk? We were all mental.

MollyBerry · 18/09/2013 21:29

I used to eat raw spaghetti and in fact preferred it to cooked spaghetti.

I like to think I was at the cutting edge of al dente

Queenofknickers · 18/09/2013 21:28

TurnofftheTV - I did that crisp thing too!!!!! Mainly with those I salted ones with the blue packet - loved the mushy and cold regurgitated crisps spread on a massive crisp. God how weird Shock

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:27

Sort of, yeah, Honey.

I am not sure I am ready for this.

Oh god.

I used to eat about 3/4 of a pack of wotsits, but just chew them and not swallow. I would chew them into a paste.

I would then... Oh my god. Would then spit them into a small bowl and use them as a cheesy dip for the rest of the wotsits in the packet.

Blush

Horrified at my child-self.

ILikeBirds · 18/09/2013 21:26

Used to eat opal fruits and chewitt type sweets without taking the wrappers off

LesserSpottedNeckSnake · 18/09/2013 21:26

I used to eat the paper bag that my penny mix up came in after I'd eaten the sweets.

Instead of brushing my teeth, I scrubbed the grout around the sink.

But the weirdest thing I ever did involved a photograph which was tucked into the top of the mirror on my dressing table. When my light was turned out, the reflection in the mirror of my curtains made it look like there was a knight stood in the corner of the room wearing a photograph shaped helmet. He would get me if I closed my eyes. So, every night, I would get out of bed and walk backwards over to the dressing table and reach behind me (this involved contorting myself almost bent double) to remove the picture. I would put it face down on the rug. The photo was of my Granddad, who died before I was born. The first few times, my Mum assumed it had fallen off. Then, she asked me about it. I denied all knowledge. The poor woman began to think her Dad was haunting me and flinging his photo across my bedroom every night. It went on for a few weeks before my Dad decided to watch me from the landing and caught me in the act. I have no idea why I didn't just admit it scared me.

happybubblebrain · 18/09/2013 21:26

I used to eat my hair and count every footstep. I also used to pull out a strand of my hair, put a spit bobble on it and watch it run up and down on the hair for hours. Now I have different weirdness.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 18/09/2013 21:25

I used to wash the tiles too!! I had one special one I used to keep extra clean. I silently fumed that my mum never noticed.

HoneyDragon · 18/09/2013 21:25

Does it involve bodily secretions Psammy?
