To be miffed at "Gift list for mother of the baby" enclosed in *Baby naming ceremony* invitation?

So some close friends (who married in church), but now claim to be atheist are holding a naming ceremony for their 8 month old first baby in an hotel.....

The invitation is beautiful with a map, timings "event closes at 11pm"?

The gift list ranges from £30-to £300, all items for the mother, cosmetics, trinkets, jewellery, pampering breaks, personalised hand-bound stationery and photo albums...

Anybody know the drill for these naming ceremonies? Are we supposed to guess a gift for the baby? Or just congratulate the mother for deciding on a name?

I have read this a dozen times and am staggered beyond belief-DP read it and fell into hysterics....

My gut tells me to go along with Jo Malone scented nappies or something.

Somebody please tell me this is not normal?!?!?!

Oh WOW! Grin
That's the best 3 updates EVER - and I nominate this thread for one of my favourites on MN because it is just so wonderful the way everything has gone.

Congratulations on becoming godparents and getting engaged, I'm thrilled for you! Friend's sister, bah. She's no loss to anyone, I wouldn't think, self-serving beatch. I can't believe she still feels that she was somehow wronged, and that she expects anyone to believe that she was doing it with her niece's best interests at heart (Yes, that niece who wasn't actually catered for in any way on the gift list Hmm)
As for the cut about PND - well! She should be barred just for that, I think. I hope she does reconsider her travel plans, to save awkwardness for everyone else - I'm sure she wouldn't want to be seen at any old "vanilla" Hmm party. Caaahh!

AntoinetteCosway · 23/06/2013 14:34

Congratulations OP on all counts. Shows how successful gentle handling and tactful reading of likely intentions can be.

Still sounds like an enormous bash, so the sister is clearly insane. The later christening, on the other hand, sounds absolutely perfect.

Good luck with your own plans too. Thanks

DrHolmes · 23/06/2013 14:11

Great happy ending!

Congratulations to you both!!!

doubleshotespresso · 23/06/2013 14:07

Thanks everybody....

sauvignonBlanche_ not bloody likely...... This is all sinking in slowly.

DSCs were really over the moon too ( DP had told them first thing this morning he was going to ask which is why he wanted me out the house asap before one of them dropped it!).

Am bowled over. Our Sunday lunch is now going to be Sunday dinner as I have been incapable of everything since about 10am ........

busymum1 · 23/06/2013 13:54

Wow what a weekend congratulations and you so have to email ddp a photo of your wonderful wedding with normal lovely day photos no bloody tacky wishing wells

doubleshotespresso · 23/06/2013 13:52

So we got in the car, DP was quiet and a bit odd really. Went to Greenwich Park, DP starts fumbling in the boot (all very weird) and we go for a walk....

He then says "Right then I've got a bit of an idea... You seem to be pretty good at this party organising business, so thought you might fancy sorting another one...."

Starts shaking and produces A RING !!!!!

We are engaged !!!! Am so ecstatic -we had talked about marriage before but never really very seriously.....

So in one weekend, am now a godmother and a fiancé! Wowser.

We have driven to see my folks earlier who were delighted and phoned DPs parents (who he had told before but were equally happy)......

So hope you all don't mind the delay in updating but hope you will understand now!

I am rambling. Must go for now.
Brew
