I really struggle to get my head round weasels

I've seen them. I know what they look like, and often catch them whizzing across the road at weasel warp speed.

But their size always surprises me. Every time. I know they are small. But when you look at a picture of a weasel or think weasel, you think bigger. You don't think "oh, a weasel. That's a little bigger than a hamster that is". Or I don't. I go, ooooh a weasel. Wow, it's tiny, every time, the surprise never abates.

I struggle with weasel physics. That the actual weasel is not the size of the concept of weasel in my head.

I'm not sure how to fix it. Confused

Pop goes the weasel, means, taking your iron to the pawn shop.

They keep the rabbit population down so we need as many as we can get.

Yes. Stretch a hamster and you have a weasel.

Animals of Farthing Wood! God I loved that book.

Have it somewhere, must read it to the dc's.

BadgersRetreat · 06/06/2013 19:09

baby badgers? Envy

HoneyDragon · 06/06/2013 19:08

They are hairy so you don't eat them MrsW. Clearly you are more receptive so just run away screaming at them, rather than taste and spit.

I shall now always think of caterpillars as wiggy though Grin

Weasels are sooooo not the size of cats 500!

They are small and elfin. About the size of a very, very long thin tiny thing.

HoneyDragon · 06/06/2013 19:06

No. But weasels SHOULD be the size of cats. Someone should tell them.

It's because of the wind in the willows that the confusion arises - they are clearly not to scale. And the animals of farthing wood. Great massive mutant weasels.

HoneyDragon · 06/06/2013 19:06

I've seen badgers, and baby badgers. They were all badger sized so no lasting trauma.

I am rather lucky. I used to work in a barn in a forest in a field. Lots of wild life.

Weasels ate about the size of cats. Aren't they? Confused

BadgersRetreat · 06/06/2013 19:05

i have seen giraffes in the wild though, and they are ridiculously tall

GobblersKnob · 06/06/2013 19:05

Giraffes I can deal with, but Giraffes eyes mess with my brain t o o b i g.

BadgersRetreat · 06/06/2013 19:04

I've never seen a badger even though i grew up in the country... Sad

fanjobiscuits · 06/06/2013 19:04

Nooooooo! Weasels can't be evil. Please tell me they have a good side?

HoneyDragon · 06/06/2013 19:02

I suffer a bit from Giraffes too. I know they are big. But when you see them you go "fucking hell, that's huge" you'd think elephants would be the same, but they are reassuringly elephant sized. Giraffes have shock factor.

But Pine Martens are so rare now Sad.

One of the few things I haven't seen in real life.

Like wild cats or badgers.

SoniaGluck · 06/06/2013 19:01

Gobblers Grin

Fuzzy I had forgotten all about Tufty.

Salmotrutta · 06/06/2013 19:00

There are some horrible weasels in Stephen King's The Stand.

Far too weasely for my liking.

pushmepullyou · 06/06/2013 18:59

Perhaps you'd be more comfortable with a pine marten?

Fuzzysnout · 06/06/2013 18:59

Yes, and those of you of a certain age might remember how very naughty Tufty the squirrel's friend Willy weasel was. All that running out from behind ice cream vans without looking.

Weasels are bad (and tiny).

HoneyDragon · 06/06/2013 18:58

But weasels shouldn't be pencil sized. Weasels are the wrong size.

OP posts:
pushmepullyou · 06/06/2013 18:57

Try thinking of them as a fast furry pencil with legs. Works for me and I'm a professional doncha know

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 06/06/2013 18:57

Salmotrutta; "Compare it to a stoat. That'll fix you"
Aha! My dad's favourite 'joke':

"Weasels are weasely recognised, because stoats are stoatily different"
