I think Michel would be bloody delighted with that review. He should be.

QOD · 07/06/2013 19:15

Mange tout mange tout

MardyBra · 07/06/2013 19:15

J'ai once lu un article where Joan Collins said she has un verre de vin blanc every lunchtime.

MardyBra · 07/06/2013 19:12

Il y avait un Aussie aussi? Est-ce qu'il mangeait les cheerios?

Fiderer · 07/06/2013 19:12

Grin at Cheerios at Le G and at today's Baby Bel.

Joan Collins lives on lettuce and water.

BIWI · 07/06/2013 19:10

Ca c'est le bon thing about Franglais. Nous sommes all totes fluent [sourire]

LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 19:10

AtYourCervix · 07/06/2013 19:07

J'ai went au Bouloigne avec l'ecol pour un day. Je suis fluent.

MardyBra · 07/06/2013 19:04

J'étais une fois quite good en français. Il y a half my lifetime ago.

Maintenant, I have to look up the basics to help dd avec ses verbes.

LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 19:01

Bloody Joan Collins must live every day like that.

Do you know what I had for lunch today? A mini baby bel.

AtYourCervix · 07/06/2013 19:00

Je voudrais un dejourner en La Gavroche. Je suis tres [envie].

Mais je n'aime pas le meat. Nor le poussin. Avez le gav un veggie choicé.

MardyBra · 07/06/2013 18:59

You look très sophistiquée dans ton picture btw.

For un temps longue, j'imagineais que you looked un peu comme these two from your user name.

BIWI · 07/06/2013 18:57

Cheerios? Zut alors. Quelle posh!

LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 18:57

Is it sad that je suis tres impressed that you have put laposrophe dans le correct placement

MardyBra · 07/06/2013 18:57

I did wonder.

Your dd sounds amazing. I just need to send mine up a few chimneys so she can take me out.

LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 18:56
Grin
LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 18:56

NO don't tweet my stupid old witterings, Christ on a bike,

LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 18:55

Hahaha a Cheerios, bloody iPad. I meant cherries. Grin

Dd text me this morning when she was on the train home 'I had the best day of my life'

We did have an absolutely wonderful day.

MardyBra · 07/06/2013 18:55

Has quelqu'un tweeted this thread to Michel yet?

LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 18:54

Oh, and the picture of le Gavroche on the website doesn't do it justice. It is full of really nice things, the silverware, crockery, glasses etc. just reeks of glamour in an old fashioned way,

And I didn't mention the atmosphere, it was the best thing. No stuffiness from the staff or the other diners. We had a brilliant banquette table so did a load of table watching. It was a Thursday lunchtime but felt like a Saturday night out, everyone seemed to be having a great time. And very relaxed and a range of clientele. Me and dd, peasants from the West Country. We were next to a French couple wearing jeans, opposite a group of business men who were plastered, several older groups who evidently go there all there all the time, couples out for a treat. It was lovely. We stayed there all afternoon.

MardyBra · 07/06/2013 18:54

How could I have manqué ce thread? Un vrai classique.

Je suis très impressionée avec les Cheerios in the duck/

Fiderer · 07/06/2013 18:53

Merci LeGavrOrf - sounds bloody wonderful.

I've got le lovely Michel on BBC deux as well.

BOF · 07/06/2013 18:50

Nandos est le travail du diable, c'est vrai.

LeGavrOrf · 07/06/2013 18:46

I am still on cloud 9 after yesterday.

I love that this thread is in classics!

I also love all the terrible French, my did would love you lot. For some reason dd and I speak terrible French to each other, stems from a holiday in France where we started reading all the French strictly phonetically in broad West Country accents. salade nicoise for instance pronounced salayde nee-coyce. Anyway when we got sight of the menu all in French we had a fit of the giggles.

Anyway, what we ate.

Amuse bouches - some cheese tart with quince caviare, and a Moroccan flavoured puff pastry thingy.
Then a cup of asparagus soup.
Fucking gorgeous bread. FUCK YOU ATKINS

Starter - I have a lobster thing,, half a lobster shell filled with some divine sauce, lobster, and vegetables. Dd had the rabbit terrine with brioche.

main - I had duck confit with fondant potato, Cheerios, cherry sauce, little onion garnishes. Dd had a minute steak with some bone marrow, a RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS port sauce, some crispy suds things, and some SHIT SMEARS ON A PLATE (in reality another sauce, god knows what)

Puddings. I had the trolley des fromages which was amazing, I also had the raspberry roulade (oink) and the we ordered the assisted des puddings - selection of six of their puddings, one of them covered in gold leaf, bling my pudding mothefuckers.

I also had a couple of glasses of cha, page and a bottle of wine between two, dd drank 5.7 ml of the wine so the rest was consumed by moi.

Coffee and petits fours.

If we hadn't ordered extras and ran the bill up to 190 quid and just stuck to set lunch it would have been 105 quid which I think is STUPENDOUS value for what you get. And it's not just the food. I have eaten some loveyly food in my time and this was ridiculously delicious, but what made it so fantastic was the service, I have never had service like it. Very friendly but not servile, but you never have to look around for attention, they seem almost psychic. You run out of water, they are there, fold your napkins when you go to the loo, refill your glass. All lovely. And quite a young bunch of staff and distinctly non stuffy. Plus the Maitre'd was GORG so me and dd gazed at him and were consoled about Michels absence.

We booked again for September when we left, I cannot recommend it enough.

I a, going to be really fucking disappointed the next time I go to Nandos aren't I. Sad

ExcuseTypos · 07/06/2013 18:37
