To throw water over a pigeon I've just spray painted?

Stay with me.

Just started to spray paint a fence panel, must have startled poor pidge behind fence as it flapped up maniacally. I had a bit of a scream...whilst holding spray trigger.

Pidge is now half 'oak brown', sitting in tree. Can't quite tell if he's ok, not giving much away with facial expression.

Have googled "accidentally painted a pigeon" with disappointingly unresourceful results.

So, should i just chuck water at it & hope it comes off?? Turps would seem a little extreme.

Laughed mybaby1day I was sobbing and couldn't breathe, obviously I wouldn't go around spray painting pidgeons, and the OP is worried, but it is funny!!!

NicNocJnr · 05/05/2012 04:22

GlowingDerriere - Don't laugh, ronseal is a well known gateway drug. Paul will get to a point where one fence just isn't enough - sheds, goodness knows maybe even warehouses. Let's just share the hope that OP doesn't have any timber decking...

MyBaby1day · 05/05/2012 04:00

To the person who laughed, animal cruelty is NEVER accpetable! Angry. Just hope YOU don't come back as a pidgeon!. Hope he's o.k. O.P x

GlowingDerriere · 05/05/2012 01:46

A shed?

He hasn't even got over the fence experience yet...

NicNocJnr · 05/05/2012 01:11

Lol, one of my favourite threads ever - crying!

In all seriousness if he can fly he'll be fine. As ronseal dries there aren't the worries about ingestion like there is with oil. Although the feathers will be stiff they aren't deformed and he'll compensate withno probs until his next shed which won't be too long. No cause for alarm. or no harm, no fowl (groan...how sad that's the best I acn do Sad ) Poor old Paul - and poor you having to apologise for vandalising an acer! Smile

Ratbagcatbag · 05/05/2012 00:35

Crying. Even. Typical thing doesn't autocorrect the onetime I want it too

Ratbagcatbag · 05/05/2012 00:34

Actually cryin with laughter at this thread. It took me four attempts to relay it to DH between snorts and tears of laughter.

ISpilledPoo · 05/05/2012 00:14

swans are protected in law you know peanut.....i am still cross with dh who, told me once that aged 10, he caught one on a fishing line on the norfolk broads, panicked and threw it back. I felt unreasonably angry with him considering it was 35 years ago and he was just a kiddiwink....Grin

threeineachlobe · 04/05/2012 20:57

We had a dribble of rain before Intrum, but paint is water repellant i've since found, rendering that question redundant really!

AIBU to think the fact its called "Ducksback" paint could condone painting a bird??

OP posts:
Intrum · 04/05/2012 20:49

Throw water over it???? Are you in the one and only part of Britain where it's not raining? Now that's bad luck.

peanutbutter38 · 04/05/2012 20:44

lol, this thread is too funny!
I had an accidental mishap with a bird. Well, a swan actually. Several months ago. I was showing dd1 how to skim stones on a lake and I swear I didn't notice the swan, when I skimmed a stone and it bounced right off his head.
In my defence, I stuck around for a while to make sure the swan wasn't concussed or in shock or something like that. It was fine. I hope

threeineachlobe · 04/05/2012 20:36

Des O'Connor on Would I Lie To You. That's what Paul looked like (well half of him anyhow.)

threeineachlobe · 04/05/2012 20:30

Just caught up with all the posts. Now I don't think you're all taking this seriously are you.

Although I do like to think Paul is off to star in a new Carry On film.

With David Dickinson.

Well if you ever see a pigeon on your fence in the next week or so, wearing some acorn cups over his eyes and an old tennis ball over his head, you know he needs a re-spray.

And if we hear of a Red Squirrel revival in the UK next season, we'll know you opted for "Autumn Copper" on your fence instead

Gauchita · 04/05/2012 20:22

Oh dear, trying to dreamfeed DS while reading this thread has been challenging...

Poor ol' Paul, though. Selyna, you made me snort with laughter Grin

OP, Paul's fine albeit a bit traumatised

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/05/2012 20:13

oh dear, im afraid unless you had managed to catch poor old paul he may come to a sticky end, im not sure he will be able to maintain his condition very well.

Dozer · 04/05/2012 20:02

RIP Paul.

KnottyLocks · 04/05/2012 19:46

Paul is probably having a laugh at your expense whilst knocking back Special Brew in the park with his pecky pals.

or maybe he dissolved

crowface · 04/05/2012 19:35

Hang on a minute, isn't this thread the plot of an episode of Noel Fielding's Luxury Comedy? Could just imagine a character called Cuprinol Pigeon who bonds with David Dickinson over their shared loves of Oak Brown, antiques and bread crumbs.

threeineachlobe · 04/05/2012 19:29

Actually is it too late to nominate pigeon-maiming for the MN olympics?

OP posts:
threeineachlobe · 04/05/2012 19:28

Sorry had to do motherly things away from pigeon-maiming.

Paul update - he's gone. Tell me that's good. Please tell me that means he's all completely and utterely and totally fine and healthy and will live long and see his grandpigeons grow up.

And I've checked the garden for pigeon corpses, none so far.

OP posts:
flyingspaghettimonster · 04/05/2012 18:19

Don't worry, he'll be back to fake-limping around the bird table like the ex-leper in life of brian... Only now he'll have a convincing skin complaint to gain sympathy.

CoffeeBucks · 04/05/2012 17:39

I tried for minutes to hold in my giggles on the train, but I couldn't keep a straight face by the time I'd got a few pages in. Love this thread!

lucyellensmumnamechange · 04/05/2012 17:39

Grin how funny

Seriously though - not more you can do unless you can catch it, then if you do, wash with cheapo washing up liquid and rinse rinse rinse.
