to eat a pea because I feel sorry for it.

I have just eaten a cherry tomato that I didn't really want (last one, bit bruised and squishy) because I 'felt sorry for it' and thought it would be sad if it didn't get eaten like it's friends...

I often do this with peas as well.

And other small pieces of food

Confused

I try to tell myself that it's ridiculous "Jaded it's just food, it doesn't have feelings FFS"

But still I find myself adding the manky mushroom to the risotto so it doesn't feel left out.

Anyone?

I love David Mitchell :)

DavidMitchellsWife · 29/02/2012 19:26

Me too, have done this for as long as I remember- someone told me it was projection of my own feelings of loneliness... :( Nice to know I'm not alone though!

PinTHISonYerCabbageMister · 29/02/2012 19:26

Ah, yes. The things that fall to the floor. Poor lonely pea in a horrible accident and separated from it's friends? Or pea desperate to avoid the boiling water and scooped up by the terrifying giant and boiled alive.

Sometimes I'm so paralysed with doubt I can only stare at it on the floor.

Petrean · 29/02/2012 19:02

Only read the OP but I've also done this!! Blush

Worse though... it was a pea that fell on my kitchen floor and didn't make it to the plate. Sad

Oh yes, I have often bought the last of something because it gives me the heebie jeebies. Can't bear the thought of their lonesomeness.

I will pair up odd socks and wear them so they feel useful :)

Ditto earrings.

I'm so glad I'm not the only nutcase

Ok, I might be lowering the tone a lot bit here, but dh and I were having a conversation about how many sperm are released each time a man ejaculates, and also how they only live for a certain amount of time so they might die before they've even been ejaculated (not sure if this is true or not). Well I started feeling sorry for the sperm that never got ejaculated, and also for the millions and millions that never get to make a baby. Then I started thinking of them as living things which I suppose they are but only half a living thing, and I started caring about their feelings. Confused then I thought maybe it was time I stopped thinking and just went to sleep.

NormanTheForeman · 29/02/2012 18:52

Oooh, and if I buy something like a bun in the bakers, then if there are only two left on the shelf I have to buy both of them, otherwise it would leave one all alone! Shock

SlightlyJaded · 29/02/2012 18:49

Oh yes whitehorses Don't even get me started on single earrings who are very VERY :( and lonely because they are waiting for their missing twin to come home.

I keep the 'singles' together so that they can keep each other company until they are reunited, and they have a 'superior' box with velvet lining Blush

My friend's fella has a thing about cuteness where he can't look at something that's too cute, he recently CRUSHED a chocolate bunny because it was 'too cute'.
Oh right.

Allthewhitehorsesarestillinbed · 29/02/2012 18:45

I tell myself that anything I've lost has gone on an amazingly wonderful adventure so I don't feel sad they're gone... y'know, pens, odd socks and earrings. I have passed this on to DD1 who like me, gets terribly distressed when anything goes missing.

I don't think I, or any of you, are odd [solemn look emoticon]

joshandjamie · 29/02/2012 18:42

I will admit that I have got a lot better than I used to be. And now I think: well little pea, you may be on your own, but dude, you are going to have a super cool adventure in the composting bin instead of where your friends are going. (I do try to pair them up though to have adventures together so they're not scared).

Perhaps not better then.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/02/2012 18:41

Ok I will admit most toys give me the creeps unless they look nice, so I buy Dd more expensive dolls that have an appealing face rather than cheapy, tescos ones that look like they want to creep up and kill you. These teddies are of a similar ilk!

ugly ones?!!!!!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/02/2012 18:37

Trinity you will be pleased to know that sadly my plan doesn't work they usually come out fluffy and beautiful! Bastards And it isn't treasured teddies just the ugly ones that have been gifted so I feel awkward giving to a charity shop. Digs self hole

TrinityRhino · 29/02/2012 18:36

oh god, those chocolate bunnies are the worst

I have to eat it head first and quickly till the head is gone

joshandjamie · 29/02/2012 18:35

wow - so it's not just me then. I also feel sorry for the last piece of loo roll stuck onto the roll. Doesn't get to fulfil it's destiny, even though it's destiny is pretty shit (no pun intended). So have to pluck it off and use it.

NormanTheForeman · 29/02/2012 18:35

I also find it really difficult to eat chocolate teddy bears etc. Have to bite their heads off quickly to minimise the pain........ Blush

TrinityRhino · 29/02/2012 18:35

they will know they are unwanted...

you are depressing teddies!!!

SlightlyJaded · 29/02/2012 18:34

Be careful Purple

Some toys are VERY sensitive and have probably picked up on your thoughts.

And I'm sure you wouldn't really want to upset them.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/02/2012 18:27

You lot are bonkers, I won't tell you what I am hoping will happen when I wash and tumble dry certain objects, like unwanted teddies. You would all keel over!
