to eat a pea because I feel sorry for it.

I have just eaten a cherry tomato that I didn't really want (last one, bit bruised and squishy) because I 'felt sorry for it' and thought it would be sad if it didn't get eaten like it's friends...

I often do this with peas as well.

And other small pieces of food

Confused

I try to tell myself that it's ridiculous "Jaded it's just food, it doesn't have feelings FFS"

But still I find myself adding the manky mushroom to the risotto so it doesn't feel left out.

Anyone?

If I'm buying a soft toy,and there are several of the same type on the shelf, I usually have to buy the one I picked up first, even if the others have cuter faces, so that the toy is not disappointed...

I now work around this by being careful to inspect all toys without touching in order to avoid giving rise to false hopes Smile

Gribble · 01/03/2012 12:44

oh and the dogs 'baby', if the dog fucks off upstairs because she cant be arsed with me Hmm and leaves her cuddly toy behind I have to take it upstairs to her, so it doesnt feel rejected and abandoned

Gribble · 01/03/2012 12:40

I do this, every now and then when I go to Tesco someone will have put a random soft toy in say the freezer bit, way away from his other friends Sad and all cold and alone, more often than not I take it all the way back to the toy aisle and put him with his mates, a few times its been the last one so Ive bought it Blush

I have a basket in the bedroom full of random lonley toys that Ive rescued Blush

ScatterChasse · 01/03/2012 12:18

Yep, I do quite a few of these!

I also have a pot plant on my windowsill, which I'm very fond of and talk to during the day. Yesterday I went out, and realised I hadn't said 'goodbye' to it, so I came back to do it! (I had only just left though.) I was worried it wouldn't have realised I was going out and wouldn't know what had happened to me Blush.

A friend went to Battersea dogs home to get a dog. Spent a long time choosing the dog. When she came back to collect they brought out this slightly ugly dog that rushed over to greet her. She couldn't face rejecting the dog and saying that it was not the one she had chosen - so took it home. I always suspected it was a deliberate mistake to get rid of a dog no one wanted.

A friend's children chose a hamster with a missing foot because they were worried no one else wanted it.

My friend suspected the pet shop owner bit the feet off stock to improve sales.

We had bought a dinosaur model that moved - had batteries. Unfortunately when DD opened it on her birthday we found the dinosaur had a broken leg. I had to really persuade DP that yes we should return it and get a new one - DP wanted to buy a new one for DD and keep the one with a broken leg, as no-one else will want it Sad. It did go back to the shop.

ZaraWara · 01/03/2012 12:02

Another one here.

Yesterday I was delighted to see my favourite (expensive) coffee was on a buy one get one free thing. But when I had my two, there was one left on the shelf, all on its own and would not be bought as it did not have a BOGOF pal to go with.

They all now live happily together in my kitchen cupboard.

TrinityRhino · 01/03/2012 10:20

lol, my kids do the 'making sure the toys are comfy' too
which has to be my fault Blush

SlightlyJaded · 01/03/2012 10:15

So on the back of starting this thread (which has now actually become counter-productive as I am worrying about the sadness of things which had never occurred to me before like odd socks which are now going to distress me no end) i have also managed to transfer my concerns to my DC whom, this very morning, spent a fair amount of time chasing the last couple of soggy rice crispies round the cereal bowl in order that they too, should fulfill their breakfast destiny.

I am breeding madness IN MY OWN HOME DAMMIT

you lot are lovely Smile

lesley33 · 01/03/2012 09:55

Heard someone on the radio talk about how they believe toys have souls and should not be thrown out until their original owner dies.

limitedperiodonly · 01/03/2012 09:51

helena I pick up single flowers that I find lying on the pavement and put them in water at home. People throw them away just because they are a bit squashed Sad

I also rescued a twig with two orange chinese lanterny things that someone had cruelly discarded when they got bored with their dried flower arrangement. It's been happily on the kitchen windowsill for over a year.

I also pick up ivy clippings and stick them in water to try to get them to root. If they do I plant them, if they die, at least I've tried.

This is not odd behaviour, I tell you.

CuppaTeaJanice · 01/03/2012 09:31

Does anybody else say 'thankyou' to the supermarket trolley, and give it a little pat on its handle as they put it back into the trolley park? Blush Sometimes I even leave it a little way away from the other trolleys so it can get some air, as it must be quite claustrophobic rammed up against other trolleys all day with another one up your arse!

TrinityRhino · 01/03/2012 07:16

helena, the poinsettia story is very sweet Smile

MissMogwi · 01/03/2012 06:44

Grin you are all mad!

And so am I. If I see a doll squished up on the DC's beds I have to put it right, so it's more comfortable. Blush

I remember as a little girl kissing my dolls and teddies good night. If I thought I'd missed one out I'd kiss them all again, so none were forgotten.Blush

It's no wonder I'm crackers.

Condensedmilk · 01/03/2012 04:28

Oh me too!

Once I accidentally knocked a teaspoon down the back of the very heavy chest freezer while DH was away.
I dropped another down there so it wouldn't be alone.

Helena1964 · 01/03/2012 04:11

And I thought I was the only one ! I also cannot leave a lone uneaten pea, noodle, etc., because its feelings might get hurt. Yesterday I felt sorry for the last roll in the package that had gone stale, but comforted myself by putting it out for the birds. And if I need 2 items of something, and there are 3 on the shelf, I buy the third so it won't feel rejected ( especially if we're stocking up on groceries because of an impending storm-how could I be so unfeeling as to leave 1 poor bottle of milk by itself on a supermarket shelf while a storm is raging ? What if it gets scared, with no-one to comfort it ? ) When I was a child, everyone knew better than to buy me gingerbread men, chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks, and the like. I also feel sorry for clothes not being taken on vacation.
I recently bought 2 nightgowns. ( I only needed 1, but there were 2 in my size, so you know what that means. ) I reached into the bag with my eyes closed to pick out the one I'd wear that night, so as not to show favoritism. I assured the one not chosen first that I liked it just as much, and would wear it soon, and that in the meantime it would live in a special section of my bureau, where it would be warmly befriended by my other clothes.
Leaving work on Christmas Eve 1987, I witnessed a group of inebriated teens toss an artificial

poinsettia out of a car window, and speed off. I was as heartbroken as if it had been a puppy. I picked up the poinsettia, promised it I would give it a good home,
and brought it home with me in my canvas bag ( where, hopefully, it was comforted by the biography of Charlotte Bronte that I'd just received as a present at work. ) To this very day, the poinsettia always occupies a special place of honor at Christmas !

I'm like this too, I was definatly worse as a kid though. Although I feel it creeping back in when I find out my Mum has chucked something away since I moved out years ago. Poor possibly lost soft toys!

Doingthedo · 29/02/2012 20:47

If I leave any food after a meal I think of it as an offering to Food God

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 29/02/2012 20:36

I cant put one item of clothing in the recycling bin, it has to wait until there is something else to go with it!!

alicethehorse · 29/02/2012 20:34

I used to do this. I rarely do it these days though, and I'm glad to be (nearly) free!

NorthernChinchilla · 29/02/2012 20:29

Sorry, 'select', one-handed bf post!

NorthernChinchilla · 29/02/2012 20:28

Thank Christ I'm not the only one...

Even my DP is trained to selected the bashed-in cans at the supermarket for us, as no-one else would want them and they can't be unwanted and left behind...
