to eat a pea because I feel sorry for it.

I have just eaten a cherry tomato that I didn't really want (last one, bit bruised and squishy) because I 'felt sorry for it' and thought it would be sad if it didn't get eaten like it's friends...

I often do this with peas as well.

And other small pieces of food

Confused

I try to tell myself that it's ridiculous "Jaded it's just food, it doesn't have feelings FFS"

But still I find myself adding the manky mushroom to the risotto so it doesn't feel left out.

Anyone?

and i say morning, and thankyou to my car when she has safely delivered us to our destination or safely home again.

RobinSparkles · 01/03/2012 22:19

You're all bonkers! Grin

We're not allowed to (((hug))) or x or call each other hunny wunny snuggle bums but we can tuck mr teddy in bed and kiss him goodnight and have sentimental feelings about peas Hmm.

See, you all pretend to be hard biatches but really you're all softies! Grin

Reminds me of Friends when Phoebe was upset that the brown (dead) Christmas trees wouldn't fulfil their destiny!

I've got a cabinet stuffed with toys. I looked at it last year after nearly 20 years of living here. I got everything out and then put them all back carefully, choosing who'd like to sit next to whom in the dark. [sob]

piratecat · 01/03/2012 22:17

I completely understand you Jaded!!

it looks so sad leaving one little pea, or bean on a plate.! lonely like.

thegreylady · 01/03/2012 22:10

I cant put one soft toy away alone-all have to have company.I feel especially sorry for ds's old monkey and bear-like Nobody up in the loft for years...ds is 42 this year!dd's Bun-Bun and Fox live in tissue paper in a drawer but I sometimes get them out for a quick cuddle[not sure which box monkey and Hoggy-Ted are in though.]

Plaguegroup · 01/03/2012 22:05

I don't do it with food but I do worry about soft toys, DS1 is not bothered about them at all and they often end up on the floor, which makes me sad. I haven't introduced him to my childhood toys yet as I don't think he is mature and responsible enough (maybe when he's 18? Grin).

When DS2 was born DS1 was given a very realistic looking baby doll, I caught DP tucking a blanket round the doll 'so he didn't get cold feet'. It was a very nippy January so this seemed a perfectly sensible thing to do.

ScatterChasse · 01/03/2012 21:35

What a lovely story Smile

I think I was always like this, I remember when I was little if I dropped a toy down the side of the bed and couldn't reach it, I'd drop a lit torch down, so it wasn't all alone and scared in the dark.

limitedperiodonly · 01/03/2012 21:14

You've seen it with your own eyes math so that explanation is good enough for me.

Was he in a chair and if so did his feet reach the floor?

No, no, don't answer my literal-minded madness. It was a lovely story. Thanks

clippityclop · 01/03/2012 21:01

I picked DD2's teddy up off the floor this morning, tucked him in bed with a book propped in front of him before I went to work. At Christmas DDs had been concerned that DH didn't have a teddy from when he was a child. I bought the one which looked at me in M&S.

mathanxiety · 01/03/2012 20:54

Or rather kettle, though it looks more like a teapot

mathanxiety · 01/03/2012 20:52

The illustration in the book definitely shows Owl with a lap. And a dressing gown and slippers, pajama bottoms, and obv a stove, cupboard, armchair and teapot.

SlightlyJaded · 01/03/2012 20:50

The Owl story is lovely lovely lovely.

Aftereight i never considered that objects might get vertigo as well Shock

limitedperiodonly · 01/03/2012 20:50

math that was very moving but owls don't have laps.

It could be about a person called Owl which would fit with my view of the world.

Thanks for that though, because I sniffed a bit.

aftereight · 01/03/2012 18:23

I feel like ET did when his spaceship landed at the end of the fil and they lowered the ramp to let him on Grin
I am not alone after all!!

I can't allow things near the edge of the table/worktop in case they look over the edge and are scared.
I can't put just one item in an empty dishwasher as it will be like prison.

blonderthanred · 01/03/2012 18:22

I really thought it was just me that did this kind of shit.

Tear Water Tea is perfect!!!what a lovely scrap of deliciousness. Grin

I have used emotional blackmail along these lines to get the DCs to eat up Blush.

And I keep all the B-list stuffed animals and dolls in a big plastic box for someone else to deal with when I am dead and gone. My own favourite stuffed animal from my childhood is in my special drawer along with some other stuff I will never get rid of. I cry every single time I read The Velveteen Rabbit. I am also of the opinion that socks mate for life. I think they are ok all left in a big communal sock basket for ease of finding by everyone because this cuts down sorting time -- probably just wishful thinking.
And yyy, the uglier the dog, the better.

Here's a story from the book 'Owl at Home' by Arnold Lobel that the DCs loved when they were small, and still chuckle about:

'Tear-Water Tea

Owl took the kettle out of the cupboard.
'Tonight I will make tear-water tea,' he said. He put the kettle on his lap.
'Now,' said Owl, 'I will begin.'

Owl sat very still. He began to think of things that were sad.
'Chairs with broken legs,' said Owl.
His eyes began to water.
'Songs that cannot be sung.' said Owl, 'because the words have been forgotten.
Owl began to cry. A large tear rolled down and dropped into the kettle.
'Spoons that have fallen behind the stove and are never seen again,' said Owl.
More tears dropped down into the kettle.

'Books that cannot be read,' said Owl, 'because some of the pages have been torn out.'
'Clocks that have stopped,' said Owl, 'with no-one near to wind them up.'
Owl was crying. Many large tears dropped into the kettle.
'Mornings nobody saw because everybody was sleeping,' sobbed Owl.
'Mashed potatoes left on a plate,' he cried, 'because no-one wanted to eat them. And pencils that are too short to use.'

Owl thought about many other sad things. He cried and cried.
Soon the kettle was all filled up with tears.
'There.' said Owl, 'That does it!'
Owl stopped crying. He put the kettle on the stove to boil for tea.
Owl felt happy as he filled his cup. 'It taste a little bit salty,' he said, 'but tear-water tea is always very good.'

MinesaBottle · 01/03/2012 16:43

DH gets upset if I drop one of his socks on the way to the washing machine and it ends up not going in the same wash as it's partner, because the sock will get lonely Grin. And the pairs have to be together on the airer...

MrsSawyer · 01/03/2012 14:59

This is me too! So glad im not alone :-)

Rebekmah · 01/03/2012 14:43

Oh thank you all, finally confirmation that I am not totally barking! :)
Any teddies deemed by DS "too babyish" now live in my bedroom. Couldn't bear to send them away to the charity shops. Ditto with beans, cherry tomoatos, manky mushrooms etc. Even the sad brown bananas get mashed up on toast so that they dont go in the bin. And I dont even really like bananas on toast.......

CreepyWeeBrackets · 01/03/2012 14:25

I ate a raisin once because I felt sorry for it. It was in DS' cot and I assumed it had become trapped in his clothes and had fallen onto the sheet.

Waste not, want not.

It was only after I had gagged on the soapy and vile taste of it that I realised that several digested raisins were in his nappy

Smile Bear at venetia
Is this the thread the bee's knees or what!?!

PineCones · 01/03/2012 14:22

YANBU Grin
I used to walk on paving stones in certain ways so as not to "leave out" any because I felt bad for them!
And then I would adjust the left side of my pillow if I had just adjusted the right because I felt bad! Confused
