to eat a pea because I feel sorry for it.

I have just eaten a cherry tomato that I didn't really want (last one, bit bruised and squishy) because I 'felt sorry for it' and thought it would be sad if it didn't get eaten like it's friends...

I often do this with peas as well.

And other small pieces of food

Confused

I try to tell myself that it's ridiculous "Jaded it's just food, it doesn't have feelings FFS"

But still I find myself adding the manky mushroom to the risotto so it doesn't feel left out.

Anyone?

This thread has had me shaking with laughter whilst poor dh tries to sleep,(insomnia).

I don't do it with food, but I'm another that feels bad if i pick something up, then, put it down in favour of a,different one. I have to decide which one i am having, before picking,it up otherwise feel guilty.

i thought saying hello and goodbye to your house when you go away somewhere was standard practice???

i get annoyed when dh moves stuffed toys into uncomfortable positions. I have to apologise to them and put them into the most, comfortable looking position possible. I don't like them being alone either, so they have to stay in pairs. But i rotate the, pairs every few weeks in case they actually hate each other and want to,speak to someone else.

i,thought this,was,all normal!

On my way out this morning, I accidentally trampled a blade of grass that was growing on to the path. Bursting into tears, I fell to my knees and tried to revive it. It wasn't just killing that blade I was distraught about - obviously it belonged to a family which was now bereaved. Through my cruelty and carelessness, I had wrecked the lives of many. I couldn't concentrate on work - it was hopeless. I returned home, weeping copiously, and decided to make what reparation I could.

Sinking to my knees on the path, I apologised long and loudly to the remaining clump of grass which I could tell, from its downtrodden, crumpled look, was in deep mourning. I then carried its slaughtered relative tenderly to the back garden and, with due reverence and many a tear, buried it in the rose garden in an elevated position where I hoped it would feel the sun's rays. Fashioning an impromptu memorial from a match box, painted silver, I penned a fond epitaph for that tiny blade of grass, cut down in its prime, fated never to reach fruition in this vale of tears - "RIP little blade, in a better world where the grass is greener and lawnmowers and clumsy oafs are unknown".

Then I went inside to contemplate the cruelty and randomness of life in an unfeeling universe - it is enough to drive you mad!

Just found this thread and bloody glad I did. I'm not the only crazy in the world! Hooray! Grin

I noticed a tray of mini chocolate bunnies in the shop the other day with just 3 randomly placed bunnies left. I had to put them next to each other so they could talk properly. Blush

Oh and I'm another who has to scrape all the beans out of a tin and I put up misdirected Christmas cards as it's a shame not to. I hide them behind others so dp won't spot them and throw them away. I have never admitted this before.

BrightBlowsTheBroom · 14/03/2015 23:44

but I also equip soft toys with feelings and put them upright so they don't hurt their heads and pick them off the floor so they don't get cold

And I feel guilty when buying soft toys if I pick one off the shelf and put it back. I've hurt its feelings.

I thought I didn't do any of this stuff but then I remembered feeling quite distressed recently when my DD lost her beloved toy cuddly dog in the school playground. The dog was my brothers and was about 30 years old. I felt awful thinking of him being all alone somewhere after all those years with our family.

A couple of days later I popped into the school office and there he was, on the desk! Apparently the head teacher kept saying he should be thrown away but the secretary had said 'just one more day!'

It was a joyful reunion!

But yes, apart from that, you're all bonkers!

PuntasticUsername · 14/03/2015 21:45

I have never ever had any of these sorts of thoughts. BUT I WILL NOW. Thanks a fucking bundle, MN :p

bumbleymummy · 14/03/2015 21:34

I do so many of the things in this thread! :) I'm glad I'm not alone. I blame my mother. She's fabulous :)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/03/2015 21:17

Sooooo glad I'm not alone, but I'm completely traumatised by all the talk of odd socks ... have people no feelings??

OH thinks I fold pairs together just to be neat and doesn't realise I do it so they can cuddle up in the drawers; it's dark in there, you see, and I wouldn't want them to be frightened Blush

Right now I am looking at a vase of a Tulips. They are all standing upright and proud except for one that has doubled over and is facing down towards the table. DH tried to pluck him out as he was 'spoiling the display' and I had to quickly hiss "don't you dare!" to him. And then whisper soft reassurances to the droopy tulip that he wouldn't be binned and he, in fact, had the best coloured petals.

I also once famously within our house burst into tears over a tea light that had no wick. He was a mutant tea light in a bag of 50 and would never know what it would be to be a proud burning candle.

It absolutely is all about things fulfilling their destiny. Blush

A friend gave his daughter £20 to buy a hamster and a cage from the pet shop.

She came back with a three-legged hamster because she felt sorry for him.

He was appalled that she didn't get a discount.

My friend and I were convinced the pet shop owner bit a foot off the ugly ones to lure the soft-hearted.

They called him Stumpy.

Binglet · 14/03/2015 20:51

At work we have 6 machines which are used to do a specific role. They all do the same job, but are made by different companies so are slightly different. We all have our favourites and one afternoon gave them all names. That was 3 years ago and they are referred to by their "names" everyday. I reguarly talk to mine and tell him how he's done me proud that day Blush

Ringovandingo · 14/03/2015 20:51

This is hilarious! I sometimes sleep with dd's dolls in my bed because I feel sorry for them lay on the floor

Sallystyle · 14/03/2015 20:48

OrinocoTheWomble · 14/03/2015 20:38

This is a lovely thread. I am very at home here!

Primadonnagirl · 14/03/2015 20:30

I've told this story before but when I was about 4 years old I was playing outside with my doll and her scruffy pushchair. I wanted to go play with my friend so went to put my baby in her pushchair , but my dad said " Don't put her there....its too scruffy " I felt a bit upset and said I didn't have anywhere else to put her. He said " yes you do!" .I really didn't and started to get a bit tearful, then he said " What's that then?," and pointed to a beautiful lace covered cot. He'd sent my older sisters into town for it because he couldn't bear seeing my doll in a dirty scruffy pushchair! He was a big 14 stone prison officer!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 14/03/2015 20:23

I think he's realised a cunning way to get me to buy him biscuits, to be honest.

Eliza22 · 14/03/2015 20:22

Endo, aww that's so sweet.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 14/03/2015 20:05

My son asked me to buy him a gingerbread man in the bakers last week, he picked the scrumpled and battered looking one because "nobody else will buy him mum, and he'll get thrown away at the end of the day and will not be eaten". Person serving was confused when I specifically asked for the mankiest looking biscuit.

We had to check again today to make sure there were no more in need of "rescuing".

Son is 10.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 14/03/2015 19:59

This thread is a good thread.

I feel I am amongst friends strokes sad looking sock gently eats all three malteasers in case they are a little family and can't bear to be split up

Riskit4aBiscuit · 14/03/2015 19:54

I experience many of these things too, especially dented tin cans on the shelf and the need to look out for stuffed toys.

One of the worst for me is food shaped as animals - I cannot bear to eat it whatever it is. Easter is a particularly bad time for this!
