to eat a pea because I feel sorry for it.

I have just eaten a cherry tomato that I didn't really want (last one, bit bruised and squishy) because I 'felt sorry for it' and thought it would be sad if it didn't get eaten like it's friends...

I often do this with peas as well.

And other small pieces of food

Confused

I try to tell myself that it's ridiculous "Jaded it's just food, it doesn't have feelings FFS"

But still I find myself adding the manky mushroom to the risotto so it doesn't feel left out.

Anyone?

Chrome100 wins the thread. Shock

Cameochick11 · 15/03/2015 15:58

I had a PE bag with a very cute appliquéd dog on it when I was about 6. We all left our kit on our school pegs, but I cried and cried because the dog would be scared and as everyone else had plain bags, he wouldn't have any friends to keep him company in the dark.

Am glad to be among you all Smile

I get very upset if I close a drawer or cupboard and accidentally trap a sock/piece of paper/ bit of ribbon etc - I can feel the pain until I've opened the drawer/door, apologised to whatever was stuck and made sure that it's not trapped any more...
And all these years I've thought that it was just me... BlushGrin

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 15/03/2015 14:09

I do most of these. When I was a kid, I decided my teddy was cold so I gave her a jumper - we lived basically on the equator at this point. I also have to use all my mugs equally, and also pans, knives or anything i have more than one of. I often feel sorry for my tea bags when I have coffee. I reread my books fairly often, but worry that some of the books are jealous or feel left out if they don't get read as often, or I'll reread a book I KNOW I DON'T PARTICULARLY LIKE. And if I'm not enjoying a book, I have to spend some time getting over the guilt of not letting it be read all the way. This has abated somewhat now I get my books from charity shops and libraries, since I know that they have fulfilled their destiny with someone else. I have more than one pair of bird earrings and they too must always face out. If the toys aren't comfy how can people bear it?

I remember reading something where Maureen Lipman said she was putting a little dish back in a kitchen cupboard, and then re-arranged a couple of pots so the dish could be with its friends! I smiled, then realised it's exactly the kind of thing I do.

SlightlyJaded · 15/03/2015 12:07

Eliza! Shock

Soap residue? SOAP RESIDUE? No. Bubbles.

Mr and Mrs Bubble and all the baby bubbles that are expecting to make it to the ocean.

I take the opposite view. If one pea has escaped the bowl t is clearly making a bid for freedom so the least I can do is respect it's will to live.
I put it in the bin but it gives it a fighting chance !!!

Eliza22 · 15/03/2015 12:02

Now, hold on there SligtlyJaded. We're talking soap residue? Peas and sweetcorn and toys, dented tins, crap plants at the garden centre.... All of these things have feelings. Soap residue? I think you've lost it Smile

Idontseeanydragons · 15/03/2015 12:00

Daftest thread I've read in a while Grin
I don't brush the MLP and Barbie's hair regularly and make sure they're put nicely away in groups so they can be together just in case Toy Story is based on real life at all, honestly BlushGrin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 15/03/2015 11:54

Yep, this sounds familiar...

When I was at university and went to competitions with my team I used to volunteer to take the teddy bear mascot, because I knew the others would squash her up in their bags. I either made her a comfortable little nest, or more usually put her in my rucksack (saying sorry she'd be a bit squashed for a little while) and then take her out on the coach so she could sit on my knee and look out of the window.

Bettercallsaul1 · 15/03/2015 11:04

Puntastic - you think? Grin

SlightlyJaded · 15/03/2015 10:43

I've just remembered another one. When I get out if the bath and let the water and bubbles run out, I have to make sure I return to the bathroom before its all gone so that all the bubbles get down the plug hole to begin their adventure to the ocean with their friends and family. Rather than withering and dying, alone and forgotten against the cold porcelain of the bath.

I equate it to the penguins who never make it to the sea. BECAUSE ITS ALMOST IDENTICAL. YES?

Er, Saul. I'm not convinced you're treating this thread with the seriousness it deserves.

EnidSingsTheBlues · 15/03/2015 09:12

Also if I recycle a plastic bottle or an empty jar of sauce, I always put the lids back on, it came with the lid and has to go back with the lid. No beans are left alone either.

ValancyJane · 15/03/2015 09:01

I am so relieved it's not just me!! Everything has a name, I do talk to inanimate objects sometimes, and have also worried about splitting up food away from their friends or family / worried about them being on their own (I think this is why I like everything to be in even numbers, so everything has a buddy).

I also buy the dented tins at the supermarket because I feel sorry for them.

I once had a clear out and threw away the odd socks. The guilt afterwards was dreadful!

(I can't believe it's not just me!)

EnidSingsTheBlues · 15/03/2015 09:00

I had4 pictures I never used so thought I'd give them to charity, quite liked one of them so left it upstairs. When the time came to put them in the car I ran back up for the other, so it could be with its mates...

chrome100 · 15/03/2015 08:58

I once went jogging on a spring day. The weather was mixed so I wore shorts under jogging bottoms intending to remove and carry the trousers if i got too hot, which indeed I did.

Several miles in I got bored of carrying the trousers and decided they were old anyway so I'd throw them in a bin.

I ran 12 miles. Got home, showered and went to bed. But I couldn't stop thinking about my trousers all sad and alone in the bin, wandering why they'd been so callously discarded. I couldn't sleep.

At 2am, I got up. Ran a good 90 min round trip to the bin to retrieve the trousers (which thankfully were still there) getting back to bed about 4am.

I still have the trousers. They are now 15 years old but I will never throw them out due to the trauma they have already suffered.

GermaineHobnob · 15/03/2015 07:58

I have some bird shaped earrings (they sound gross but they are pretty!). I always put them on with the birds facing outwards so they can see the world go by and not have to look at my neck all day Blush

Rollermum · 15/03/2015 07:47

Not resin mating! Re-animating!

Rollermum · 15/03/2015 07:45

Oh I love all this madness! Thanks for resin mating this thread OP.

I agree with feeling guilty for not buying first item picked up in a shop. And making sure toys aren't sprawled face down.

I've always felt spoons are loners. Knives and forks are like couples and spoons seems a bit of a spare wheel.

starsandunicorns · 15/03/2015 01:24

No bean is left behind in this house
Odd socks are used at the weekend and for gym
Tins in the cupboard the last one is used up asap after its mates have gone
Will always buy 2 poorly looking plants on the discount shelf from garden centre

StayGoldPonyBoy · 15/03/2015 01:10

Oh and family favourite, DH is a drummer and I named every single drum and cymbal on his kit and get upset if he plays a song without including everyone.

I make sure to play each of my guitars an equal number of times and restring them all on the same day so nobody is better than anyone else.

StayGoldPonyBoy · 15/03/2015 01:08

I do this. Food, toys, you name it.

I save cereal boxes so they can be recycled in pairsBlush It must be scary being recycled, okay?!

I cried when DD binned off her favourite snuggle blankie from 6mo-2yo for a new one and let it sleep in my bed.

She didn't even care when I washed itSad

I'm glad I'm mad as a box of frogs, rather than one barmy frog. At least they have friends in the boxWink

goodnessgraciousgouda · 15/03/2015 01:01

Also everything gets a name. Plants, favorite mugs. The computer.

HellKitty · 15/03/2015 01:00

I've found my people!
Yes to everything. The DCs and even DP will wind me up if I leave something as it'll get lonely. They know my weak points. And if it's a tin of beans or sweet corn then it's all out or two left in the bottom, so they can chat. If there are 3 then I worry two of them will gang up and bully the last one. Oh god. That's not normal is it Confused
