I love a nice big jigsaw, me. Preferably something like a thatched cottage surrounded by flowers.

I am too embarrassed to do them at home because my 80 year old mother and inlaws who are in their 70s share my enthusiasm and I just think if any of my uber-cool London creative/media-type mates came calling and saw a bugger like that on my dining table they would think I was a very sad case and immediately drop me.

I keep my recipes in a flip photo album, so I don't need glue, I can flick through them easily, and the plastic photo sleeves protect the recipes from spillsSmile

liveinazoo · 12/01/2012 06:13

oh prancing pony i feel your pain.

PrancingPony · 12/01/2012 06:09

I spent yesterday evening cutting recipes out of my pile of good food magazines and sticking them into a scrap book with a proper pritstick and everything. Was feeling very proud of myself for being so organised until dp walked in and said it was the saddest thing he had ever seen.

liveinazoo · 12/01/2012 06:01

I love puzzles and mysteries
I am a massive Severus Snape Harry Potter Fan
I love watching Bones, CSI and Criminal Minds
I am coming more and more geekier every day thanks to my even geekier husband Grin

Scuttlebutter · 12/01/2012 00:07

And did I mention that I used to give compost clinics where I'd talk to people about carbon/nitrogen ratios until they fell asleep?

Scuttlebutter · 12/01/2012 00:05

CMOTDibbler - that's so exciting! Like me she probably gets hugely excited about waste analyses (where you wade through tonnes of waste sampling its different constituents) or modelling waste arisings. And how romantic to meet her DH at work. No woman can be resisted in her rigger boots, hiviz jacket and hard hat - I am a goddess in mine. Grin

EauRouge · 11/01/2012 22:27

Hail, fellow geeks.

Anyone who has ventured into the fishnet topic of MN (yes, there is one) will know all about my geeky obsession with aquarium fish.

I am also geeky about motor racing and if you figured that out from my username then you probably are too Grin

I think I have found my soul mates in this thread!

I love jigsaws, sewing, maths especially algebra and calculus, making cakes, reading maps, putting flat pack furniture together, languages (I speak French and German), computer games, especially Zelda, killer sudoku, papercraft, digital scrapbooking and the Waltons. I have kept a diary every day for the last 20 years.

Oh, and I make lots of lists and tend to overplan things. DH thinks I'm mad - in a good way I hope!

Buriedundernappies · 11/01/2012 21:31

I play World of warcraft. I love playing it.
I can recite a fair few Buffy Episodes, and me and my brother regularly have conversations just using quotes from Buffy/Angel/Bones.
I'm an Eddie Stobart spotter too!
My DP also plays world of warcraft, warhammer and can take apart and build an entire PC. And can tell you what every little bit in the computer does.

Carmenthebarman · 11/01/2012 20:54

I am 34 and love my life.

inkyfingers · 11/01/2012 20:44

I made marmalade on Sunday. So excited about it... Blush

DazR · 11/01/2012 20:29

Wife of a geek - he can't resist jigsaws, sudoku puzzles, number puzzles, crosswords - mathematical problems, computer programming, plus recording his physical prowess by using a satnav thingy when he goes running/cycling and then bores me silly showing me the route, stats, heart-rate, undulation, speed, calories burned etc. etc. etc. ...........
Unfortunately the genes seem to have been passed on to daughter - DD1 studying Mechanical Engineering, loves maths, physics and is home at present playing Mario on an old NES games console - also loves F1 racing (along with her dad).

I CANNOT STAND NUMBERS OF ANY SORT - AND JIGSAWS ARE SUCH A WASTE OF TIME!!

Exogenesis · 11/01/2012 20:27

I work in a library.
I love spreadsheets.
radio four is amazing.
radio surrey is also rather cool.
I get called a Geek at work all the time.

Geek is the new sexy. I care not what anyone says.

TrinaLuciusMalfoy · 11/01/2012 20:21

Oh yes, and I adore Ruth Goodman and would love to do an Edwardian Farm type programme with her :D

singingmum · 11/01/2012 20:19

My all time fav pressies over the years have been
star trek dvds/vhs
box full of books and sci-fi/fantasy books
a collection of the works of shakespeare thats very old and first pocket edition
a book called the metaphysics of star trek(sort of ironic title)
and
a writing pad and excellent branded pens
I am a nerd and a geek Blush

TrinaLuciusMalfoy · 11/01/2012 20:18

I love (and indeed perform in) G&S
I subscribe to 2 knitting magazines
I also enjoy crochet, patchwork, quilting, dressmaking, cross-stitch...
I know pretty much every episode of the X Files by name
My favourite things to iron along to are the Firth/Ehle Pride & Prejudice, Thompson/Winslet Sense & Sensibility and Star Trek Next Generation
I'm currently re-reading all the Harry Potters
I have long arguments with the creative manager of Classic FM about why the station never plays any of Sullivan's music
I can tell which episode of Tom & Jerry my daughter's watching from the music and sound effects alone. She is only allowed to watch the Hanna & Barbera ones.
I love jigsaws (just wish I could do one without the risk of DD2 eating the pieces)
I love solving sudoku problems with my FIL
I have a book of logic problems in my bedside drawer

That's probably enough to be going on with Grin

butterfliesandladybirds · 11/01/2012 20:18

Oh I adore maps, I could read them for hours. Love Tetris, preferably in the original format with the original russian folk music. I also love science fiction and LOTR and The Hobbit. I am a bird watching fan, too also would prefer radio 4 to most tv programmes ( though loving Big Bang Theory just now).

I am also a bit pedantic and love puns, to the annoyance of my family!

nursenic · 11/01/2012 20:11

Wow Scuttlebutter and CMOTDibbler's friend need to be introduced.

And can I come along with my 'allotment' diary complete with pages of diagrams and drawings of our compost heaps, leaf mould storage areas and comfrey liquid fertiliser watering systems?

CMOTDibbler · 11/01/2012 20:02

Anna, I thought the only person who loved geological maps was my DH. We go on holiday, and he shows me geological items of interest.

Scuttlebutter - my best friend is a waste management consultant. She met her partner on a landfill site when he nearly ran her over with his JCB

Anna1976 · 11/01/2012 19:52

OMG. I totally love you all.

almost as much as I love geological maps, my Hilleberg Akto, my primus omnifuel, Fritjof Nansen, Douglas Mawson, Simon Russell Beale's Sacred Music TV series and everything David Attenborough has ever done but especially Frozen Planet.
Grin

inmysparetime · 11/01/2012 16:56
