i am vaguely intrigued by these as identified in teh times
"Discarded notes are rubbish to most people, but not for worldwide subscribers to Found, which reprints them. The magazine?s publisher, Davy Rothbart, gets bundles sent to his office in Michigan. Laura Kwerel, a radio producer in Washington, was ?overwhelmed? after reading one issue. ?I realise now,? she says, ?that there is more humanity in a discarded grocery list than in a thousand-page novel.? Some people need to get out more. "

i cant imagine putting chocolate on my shopping list. like i would ever forget to buy it!

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 30/01/2006 16:47

Beg to differ Soupy, the foodstore of the John Lewis Partnership is always a rich hunting ground for me, Sainsburys is cack. Although today I found one there, but it's the dullest yet.

Page torn from a shorthand notebook; fat, left-leaning handwriting in blue biro (can never see the point of blue pens - they should all be black)

Onions
Milk (both)
Chocolate
Fresh Pasta
Skimmed milk
Vegetables
Tins
Frozen Peas

we need to know more about the tins before we can have a stab at tonight's tea, but I'm prepared to bet it's pretty minging - onions and peas with the pasta and a milky sauce perhaps. Double yum!

here's hoping for better lists elsewhere

Troutpout · 30/01/2006 16:41

babyonboard that list you kept sounds spookily like one of my lists!
(scuttles away questioning sanity)

babyonboard · 30/01/2006 15:30

oooh i love this thread..does an overheard (woman on phone to someone on train) shopping list count? i don't have physical evidence but it's so good...

SoupDragon · 30/01/2006 11:06

Never any at Waitrose. Clearly the (generally male) Trolley Dolleys are better at clearing them out when they rehouse them back at the store entrance than they are at lower quality supermarkets.

codnotmud · 30/01/2006 11:03

lol at lincolm

no mreo lists here

receipts dont tell us much o they?
think handwriting asn missplelign are vital parts of it

Cabe · 30/01/2006 00:47

If you had to find a soundtrack for this thread what would you choose?

alexsmum · 30/01/2006 00:29

y'know that walmart site isn't a patch on this thread!

  • JudasnotCod!! -

The Sconnoisseur remit was to locate Britain's finest Scone really! My sister and I think we're pretty hot at making a good scone - something a little biscuity about the very best ones and without that I've been frozen and thawed crumblyness... many put either too much baking powder in to get the rise or mix baking powder with self raising flour which makes for a soapy tasting scone which dries your mouth out. Anyway, we take it upon ourselves to 'Tea-shop' with frequency and award the scones on a scale of 1-10

Best scone to date - The Olde Tea Shoppe on Steep Hill by the Cathedral in Lincoln... this was way back in 1994 so can't vouch for standards now, or even if the 'shoppe' is still the purveyor of Afternoon Teas! (That scone was a legend and at over £10 for two 'Afternoon Teas' (old money ) it bloody should have been)

No more lists?

This could be the making of another thread!

FrannyandZooey · 29/01/2006 20:54

Did anyone ever post on this site while it was active? It was hilarious but hard to stop once you start reading all the comments.

yoyo · 29/01/2006 20:45

Oh fab! Have not had time to read until now but DH in bed ill, kids in bed, stacks of crap to do so thought I'd read it now. Am going to keep an eye out. I read them but don't keep them usually but will from now on.
Perhaps we should all write Mumsnet on them and leave them deliberately - see who finds the first MN one.

codnotmud · 29/01/2006 20:13

no more?

DP really into this thread and the quest for a list -he said he almost asked a shopper for the list they were clutching yesterday. Told him I think this would be against the rules . Desperate to contribute a list though so will keep searching

this thread is still hilarious and has reminded me I really must go to the supermarket today

dramaqueen72 · 29/01/2006 05:47

I love this thread, up at stupid o'clock with nonsleeping newborn its the BEST thing to read. sadly lists in trolleys just dont happen to me right now -online groceries shopper currently- but this is such a great thread I might drag entire family to supermarket just to source lists.

Cabe · 29/01/2006 01:52

Enid - I love this thread!

Cod I'm shocked at your list denial!!! 'connoisseur' lol, reminded me of the tea shop appraisals my sis and I used to do years back - we dubbed ourselves Sconoisseurs

I wanted the one my sis had written for her dh... he came back from shopping without it though so it's somewhere in smelly burton

No lists at asda... and yes it was way too cold to drag the baby round the torlley parks to look for them!!!

Definitely think Arse Council Funding for this project... How much do you reckon for each submission?
