In the car today, radio on, and they start playing All Around The World by Lisa Stansfield. Instantly I felt the rage creeping up.

'Been around the world and I, I
I can't find my baby,
I don't know why, why he's gone away '

YES YOU FUCKING DO, LISA! Allow me to refer you to your own words, not 30 seconds ago, when you said (and I quote):

'We had a quarrel, and I let myself go
I said so many things, things he didn't know
And I was oh, oh so bad'

And then, and then, LISA, you go on to say

'I did too much lying, wasted too much time'

So you do know, you know exactly why he's gone away, so you should just STFU and concentrate on finding him to apologise. Not singing that bullshit trying to make us feel sorry for you, when clearly it is all YOUR FAULT.

I feel better for that. Anyone else?

Just thought of another song that really bugs me - Man who can't be Moved by Script. It's about a man who decides to camp out on a street corner following a relationship break-out, like some weirdly static stalker:

"'Cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street."

Yes, if your ex decided to contact you of course she'd have to come back to the place you met; it would never occur to her to phone or email you.

What's more, as he keeps yammering about how he won't be moved from the street corner in case his ex comes back, I start wondering about whether he's even leaving to use the toilet. Presumably he's not washing or showering. And he says he's willing to stand there for a year. That's really going to win her back, isn't it?

That version is a parody of the original song though.

bigtoelittletoe · 01/01/2012 13:43

'Alice, Alice, who the fuck is Alice?'

Mate, you're the best one to answer that. You lived next to her for 24 years.

housemum · 23/12/2011 00:33

In Ding Dong merrily, isn't thre a line with "steeple bells be swungen" rhymed with "by priest and people sungen"? Swungen?? Sungen???

iklboonkey · 22/12/2011 20:57

'Oi, you little shit! Your bleeding parupapumpum-ing has woken the bleeding baby!!! I only just got him dahn!

Thumbinnapuddingwitch · 22/12/2011 20:43

scentednappyhag - wouldn't that just be her meaning rat poison only poison didn't fit cos it's two syllables?

yellowraincoat · 22/12/2011 17:22

I love Always by Erasure, but seriously, the first line:

Open your eyes
I see your eyes are open

Makes me cringe

scentednappyhag · 21/12/2011 18:36

Now, I LOVE Blondie, but One Way or Another- rat food's not going to do anyone much harm really is it?

culturemulcher · 21/12/2011 18:32

Oh no, you can't mock Sbruce.

I think he means something on the lines of 'I'm yours tonight even if we're just dancing in the dark not shagging '.

Lexilicious · 21/12/2011 18:18

this gun's for hire even if we're just dancing in the dark

WHAAAAAT?

betabaker · 20/12/2011 21:23

Can I just say
Uptown Top Ranking
We saw you on TOTP, singing it like you knew what it meant, with your cool afros. But what the what?

WidowWadman · 20/12/2011 21:19

When I was young I thought "china in your hand" was about politics. In my defence, my English wasn't that good back then.

KatieScarlettsCrackers · 20/12/2011 21:03

YY to China in your hand.

Just because it rhymes, Carole, doesn't make it right.

MERLYPUSS · 20/12/2011 19:42

Has no one mentioned T'pau Chine in Your Hand? What a crock! And the fact that she still trolls it out again and agai.nn and again. Makes me want to stab someone

TheApprentice · 20/12/2011 17:01

MsMarple, when I was at school many moons ago our singing teacher made us sing, "Red and yellow, indigo and green.....!

I don't know why she was so pernickity over that bit as she was quite content for us to sing "Listen with your eyes" a few lines later!

KatieScarlettsCrackers · 20/12/2011 16:57

You should be thanking us, is a horrible song.

RudolphthePinkNosedReindeer · 20/12/2011 16:45

Didn't know those were the lyrics. Spoilt the song for me now!

housemum · 20/12/2011 16:25

Katiescarlett - yep, a winner every time there. Just shag her if she's poor (no need to pay for a meal) then go drink-driving, hmmm...

Banal lyrics - Supergrass, All Right. "We are young, we run green, we've got teeth nice and clean".

KatieScarlett2833 · 20/12/2011 16:16

"In the summertime" by Mungo Jerry

ever single line offends me.

RudolphthePinkNosedReindeer · 20/12/2011 16:10

Well it's a false dilemma song - it presupposes you wouldn't want to be a fish, mule or pig, and therefore makes you choose to swing on a star. Personally, I would love to carry moonbeams home in a jar Grin

Saturdaynightbeaver · 20/12/2011 14:19

*realise not really

Saturdaynightbeaver · 20/12/2011 14:17

Have sung my way through a bit more RudolphPinkNose and really that, indeed a mule is another option being offered to me if I don't decide to swing on the said star Xmas Grin

When pizzas were first introduced to the UK in the seventies they were called Pizza Pies.
