Hi

this is my first post but have lurked for sometime. My 3yo DS has lost his favourite stuffed dog tonight in Blackpool and I am putting a plea out there if anyone can help me! Its a very tatty looking, sorry well loved(!) dog and we dropped it near the south pier about 7pm-long search but no joy. I am devastated and feel so sorry for him-he sobbed all the way home-as did I. I hope someone can help us.

Any suggestions how we can make him feel better tomorrow? Thinking build a bear and obviously lots of hugs but if you have been in a similar situation any ideas are more than welcome.

Many thanks in advance
Balletpump

ps-if you saw me sobbing on Blackpool front and stopped to help thank you as well x

Based on the photos, that is clearly a dog who likes his sunshine holidays and prone to popping off for one at a moment's notice.

I really hope the power of MN can help you!

Kellamity · 28/10/2011 22:34

This is the closest I can find but I don't think it's exactly right is it?

monkeywench · 28/10/2011 22:32

He looks like one of those Jellycat? Jellykitten? ones - will have a google.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 28/10/2011 22:32

My dd lost her puppy on last day of holiday in Sicily during the summer. I have never ever seen grief like it. The poor child was actually howling in her sleep. We got a replacement after a lot of work by dh. He placed an ad in the local paper(nutter) and when that gave no result we blew up old photos where we could read the tag, googled random guesses till we hit the jackpot and found an online German company that made them. We had to set up an account as a toy shop and buy ten of them but you should have seen her face when puppy came home Grin Grin it was amazing. And of course he looked years younger cause of his long holiday Grin

hiya patio x

DD2 has a duck. When she was about 18 months I got her out the car from the childminders and the duck wasnt there. "Dut gone" she told me all serious, with big eyes. My heart was breaking for her! It was the only think in her little life she placed any value on.

We were very lucky, my childminders lovely son who was about 10 at the time scoured the surrounding area and found it in the primary school grounds, god knows how it got there, she had it when i was putting her in the car, but what a reunion that was.

Lovely ideas about replacements from others.

Just for a laugh - when my cousins were small (both older than me) their goldfish died. My aunt couldnt get to the shop for a replacement so she cut one out of orange peel and put it on a high shelf! She used to stand on a chair and swirl the water so they could watch the fish move.

It turned out being so much easier than feeding and cleaning a real fish that various peel versions hung around for months...

Kellamity · 28/10/2011 22:29

Do you know what brand he is?

balletpump · 28/10/2011 22:26

Thank you for your lovely messages. Not sure we can get a replacement as he is 4 years old and bought in a sale but we have managed to get a couple of images if anyone can help us. I will try and post on blackpool link as well-thanks for that suggestion.

If I can persuade my 7yo that Rabbity Woo was working in Florida and came home safely 3 months later with a special note from Mickey Mouse, then you can easily make up a story a 3YO would believe.
Get on eBay and chase it down sharpish.

KatieMortician · 28/10/2011 22:15

Can I send him a postcard from the dog on holiday? If you PM me your address I'll send him a postcard from London and a story about how he took the train from Blackpool.

That should tide you over for a few days until replacement dog can be sought.

slapmeonthepatio · 28/10/2011 22:10

DD2 has a giraffe. I even bought a spare. They don't make them any more. I saw one on eBay that sold for £50.

Post a pic or a link to something similar and you never know...

Ahhh - Poor lamb. We live in fear of this happening with DD1's fave toy as she is 4 now and wouldn't fall for any subterfuge. Hope you find him or manage to sort a replacement.

Just a word of caution for those who have duplicates - make sure you kids never ever work out there are two. DD used to have different fave toys, which we had duplicates for. One day she inadvertently saw the duplicates - within a couple of month she had 'gone off' these toys and decided her favourite was one that we didn't have and couldn't get a duplicate for Confused

Kellamity · 28/10/2011 22:06

Aw jj that's Sad

FruStefanLindman · 28/10/2011 22:02

You could try posting on Mumsnet Local for Blackpool as well. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/local_blackpool

Hope you manage to find it, or a replacement, and that DS cheers up Smile

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 28/10/2011 22:02

kella ds has had FOUR!!! He lost the 3 spares and he and dd had a spat one day and she confessed days later shed binned them.

The originals were with him in nicu and very special to me, he slept with them from day one. I'm tearing up thinking about it

Rollergirl1 · 28/10/2011 22:02

You need to act quick. Find out if you can get an exact replica asap. If not you need to try and transfer his affections on to something else quite quickly. And as someone else said, make sure it is something else that is readily available.

My DS lost his treasured bear on holiday when he was 2. We had already tried to source another before he lost it cos we knew how devastating it would be if/when it happened. Anyway, he lost it and we had no way of getting it back. Within 2 days we orchestrated the replacement, a zebra from mothercare. I think DS realised that bear wasn't coming back so he accepted zebra. We now have 3 or 4 zebras just in case and DS (4 next may) doesn't seem close to giving up his zebras any time soon.

Kellamity · 28/10/2011 21:59

Oh jj we are a house of taggies too! DS currently has 2 but I have bought about 6 in his life I think Hmm

JjandtheBeanplusPud · 28/10/2011 21:56

Can you describe it? Have any idea of its 'make'

Mumsnet is amazing for tracing replacements.

I feel your pain dd binned ds taggies, it breaks my heart thinking about it.

ChooChooWowWow · 28/10/2011 21:56

That is so not trivial. A few years ago DS left his precious toy in our holiday chalet. He was devastated. We were phoning several times a day (I was sobbing on the phone to the manager) and offered a stupid reward. Five days later she phoned to say a chalet cleaner had picked it up. The cleaner had then taken a few days off so the toy had been sat in his car for five days.
We drove nearly 300 miles to pick it up because I refused to let them post it in case it got lost again.

So there is hope. Keep advertising the loss and good luck.

monkeywench · 28/10/2011 21:56

Ds1's favourite bear (Wobble) was savaged by the dog. He had to spend a long recuperative period at my mum's house being restuffed and restitched. He came back thinner, patchier, and cleaner, but is still the same dear Wobble.

Have you posted on the local board?

screamingbohemian · 28/10/2011 21:55

ah x-post with LeBof!

onepieceofcremeegg · 28/10/2011 21:54

Balletpump can you do a link to a similar one (see instructions below if you're not sure how to)

People on here have had success when other mners rally round to find replacements for valuable items. :)

In the meantime the toy puppy is definitely on holiday. :)

anonymousbird · 28/10/2011 21:54

Oh No!

Make? Style? Any chance of replacing - even try ebay if you know the make and no longer on sale through usual retailers??

Popbiscuit · 28/10/2011 21:52

Nothing useful to suggest but . My DCs all have a favourite snuggly thing and we haven't lost one yet, but I can imagine how it would feel if we did...
