WWYD? The Saga of the Family Tuna

Bit longwinded but anyone who bears with me can have Wine and Thanks
DD has a toy caterpillar named Sydney Tuna, she liberated him from a car boot sale when she was just gone 2 and has adored and worshipped him ever since.
Last Christmas Santa brought his mummy, Mrs. Mabel Tuna, to live with us. She had missed Sydney since he went to seek his fortune, so had written to Santa to ask him to find Sydney, and Santa gave her a lift to our house on his sleigh. Cue rejoicing and carolling and so on....
DD now informs me that this Christmas, Mrs T and Sydney are writing jointly to Santa to find Mr. Tuna, who rejoices in the name Miguel apparently, and is in the army, fighting for the peaceloving resistance caterpillars who want to stop the slaughter between the marmite and the maple syrup factions I kid you not AND I kept a straight face wile DD told me all this
So... and if you're still with me, a thousand thanks... I can lay my hands on a caterpillar identical to Mrs. Tuna, but how can I make him look like he's been liberated from the army/prisoner of war camp/somewhere else suitable to have kept him away for a long time? I thought about him having been kidnapped by Pirates to explain where he's been all these years, and that was when DD came out with the stuff about the army... any suggestions? DD is 9 and I think this could be the last year for Santa for her, we've had some pointed questions that I have so far lied my way out of managed by the skin of my teeth, so I want to do Mr. Tuna's homecoming right...

I am still in favour of bandaging rather than amputation [wimp] - but some embroidered scars are a definite must.

Good point about a present for Sydney, though - a teeny tiny bear maybe, or is Sydney too old for that?

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDawn · 28/09/2011 13:29

Right - update on the Miguel Tuna Escape Committee... Grin
We have purchased Mr Tuna's freedom, by stealth, from durance vile in Toys R Us, and found one exactly the same as Mrs. T. but with longer plushy fur so he is indeed hairier and therefore manly
We found a shot gun, pump action, an "alien pistol" in tasteful blue and orange, and a hand grenade with sound effects to go in his kit. I am going to pm whoever that lovely person with the camo stuff was on page 2 - A thousand thanks to you, I shall have a go at uniform and/or kitbag with the cloth and console myself that it needn't look briliant because it's War Torn Grin
His legs are quite small in proportion to the rest of him, so I might amputate there's a pink pair so one of those or both, could go and plan on a scar, tattoos, and a mustache and possibly eye patch.
I love it when a plan comes together and will get some pics as he gets prepared, and on Christmas day when the Happy Reunion takes place...

A cigar!!! But then again that might condone smoking? But would fit in very well with the war hero Miguel!!

purplepidjinawoollytangle · 28/09/2011 12:15

Bandage up a couple of his legs

No other suggestions, just fascinated Blush

OTheHugeWerewolef · 28/09/2011 11:28

If you could find a cheap toy camo jacket, perhaps you could buy two and customise the jacket with a pair of extra sleeves to fit Miguel's top section? Then finish off with a military beret and moustache, accessorise with a cardboard suitcase, tied up with string and full of letters sent to him by his family while he was in POW camp (complete with redactions, obviously), and you're there.

Grin

Spluttering into my tea now at the thought of everyones kids having to wait for their Xmas presents whilst their mums watch a stuffed toy reunion Grin brilliant!!

Honeydragon · 28/09/2011 10:28

Disney will be watching.....

When she turns 21, you HAVE to get her another. Mr Tuna's illegitimate son from his years in captivity, with the Laundry maid who showed him a brief but tender kindness.

I think I'll be looking forward to this more than the Dr Who Special.

ScarahStratton · 28/09/2011 10:14

Oh yes please! I'd love to see the reunion. Grin

pissedrightoff · 28/09/2011 10:08

With photos.

pissedrightoff · 28/09/2011 10:08

Oh yes Pombear You must start a reunion thread on Christmas Day. Please.

pyjamasinbananas · 28/09/2011 09:59

We need a live present unwrapping thread. It's ok I've seen DS open cars before so yours will be a lot more entertaining!!

Honeydragon · 28/09/2011 09:57

Erm is it me or are a load of Mnetters going to be logging on on Xmas day to see how the reunion goes Grin

SamMiguel · 28/09/2011 09:57

You're all mad (in the niceest possible way!) Grin

ForYourDreamsAreChina · 28/09/2011 09:53

I think he also needs a foreign accent, if he's been held captive in foreign parts.

You need the Spanish version of the bear factory, and buy one of the squeaks, but a foreign squeak....and then a replacement English squeak for when he's been debriefed.....

Becaroooo · 28/09/2011 09:49

ooohh, yes! And maybe a missing leg???? (do catarpillars have legs????)

ScarahStratton · 28/09/2011 09:46

No,no Becar, I was just thinking that a wound with stitches would be good.

Quintessentialist · 28/09/2011 09:45

Could he have grown fins and lived camouflaged as erm, tuna for a while?

Becaroooo · 28/09/2011 09:43

Moustache (Should be 1970's porn star style IMO)

Camouflage uniform, torn and ripped obv.

Bandage of some sort (indicating a wound sustained in the fight for liberty etc)

Scar on cheek (from a knife fight in the POW camp with another prisoner for food/cigarettes)

ScarahStratton · 28/09/2011 09:41

He needs a bunch of flowers for Mrs Tuna, and a gift for Sydney too. Santa wouldn't let him come home to his family empty handed.

Maybe a little packet of letters that he wrote during the war, but couldn't post because he didn't know where they were.

Flowerista · 28/09/2011 09:36

And grenades and knife plus maybe an emergency bag of Brussels sprouts on a utility belt round his waists.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 28/09/2011 09:35

You need a desert map type thingy smeared with maple syrup and marmite !

ScarahStratton · 28/09/2011 09:34

Oh that is so cute. He definitely needs a big curly moustache and a camouflage jacket.

KnitterInTheNW · 28/09/2011 09:31

I have a playmobil sized rifle and handgun that I hid when DS opened his police playmobil, you're very welcome to them if they'd be big enough.

lambethlil · 28/09/2011 09:28

Are you listening Disney?!! This is genius stuff!! Hire children!! In a good way obviously...

ROFL

Thanks
