All these people who cry "burglary!'.

It always happens at night and there are never any witnesses. I bet they either left the door open, just inviting people into their houses then shout "burglary!" when someone misreads their signals. Or they've just lost their stuff and say it was a burglary to get other people into trouble. Or some people just do it for the attention. People should take responsibilty for their stuff.

It makes me really suspicious when people say they've been burgled and then don't put in an insurance claim, surely if it was true they would claim on the insurance?

SybilBeddows · 07/07/2011 16:33

It makes me really suspicious when people say they've been burgled and then put in an insurance claim, it makes me wonder if they're just saying it for the money.

bungled! Blush

Oh that's it now, this thread will be here forever and I'm just titting all over it!

TheRhubarb · 07/07/2011 16:29

Thanks Spoons. I suppose a burglary is different as whilst it is a violation it's not an intimate violation of your body.
But then people talk about their operations and illnesses don't they?

Hmm, well let's not let this classics thread get too serious.

I'm going to leave the car doors open tonight in the hope that they get bungled.

Lots of people claim to have been burgled, but actually they just gave their telly and DVD player away and didn't want to admit it to their boyfriend

Oh why is this in classics??? Is it just to embarrass me for getting the wrong end of the stick? It is isn't it? Bollocks to you all! Angry

I suppose my burglary was my fault for having a parrot in the first place. How dare I assume that I can just own a parrot for 14 years, care for him, bring him up as part of the family and not even lock him in his cage! I should have course made him fully available for druggie scumbags to exchange for their fix. Silly old me Blush

forkful · 07/07/2011 16:09

If the property is not physically damaged at all then surely it was not burglary - just maybe "borrowing" items.

forkful · 07/07/2011 16:07

I can't see why you keen talking about houses being burgled - what about the bungalowz.

Confused

Bungalowz are also burgled. Wink

TobyLerone · 07/07/2011 16:04

Ugly houses don't get burgled.

So if you leave your hedge untrimmed and your windows unadorned, chances are you'll be ok anyway.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/07/2011 15:58

We're in Classics, so it's here forever now. Can't wait to refer people to it. :o

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/07/2011 15:55

Also everyone knows that having your stuff nicked and furniture broken etc is how some people enjoy themselves, so when the accused explains that the householder accosted them at random and asked them to come and vandalise their home, we should believe them.

oh you are so right. surely if there were no-one else present, we cannot know beyond any reasonable doubt if you were burgled or if you just gave the stuff away and now regret it.

limitedperiodonly · 07/07/2011 15:26

We should different categories of burglary. So if you steal something from a house you've been in a few times before as a guest a suspended sentence or community service would be enough.

But if you were a really bad burglar who wears a balaclava and burst into the house from behind the privet hedge then they should really throw the book at you.

PirateDinosaur · 07/07/2011 15:15

It's not proper burglary unless the burglar is armed with a gun or a knife, anyway. Everyone knows that.

And even if he is, if the householder doesn't at least pick up a few defensive injuries in the course of the burglary it's a bit suspect, IMO.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/07/2011 14:46

Everyone knows that women love giving away their personal belongings, but then get embarrassed and afraid that their husbands/partners will find out and so they file false reports of burglary.

What's really important is that if people claim their things have gone missing and someone has smeared shit on their walls and smashed their windows, and it's only their word that they didn't do it themselves, they should go to prison for the same length of time as a burglar would have got had a burglary in fact taken place.

limitedperiodonly · 07/07/2011 14:40

Often housewives who resent their husbands being at work all day punish them by giving away their things to anyone who knocks on the door.

Then when their husband comes home and asks where the telly is they panic and say the gasman nicked it.

aliceliddell · 07/07/2011 14:29

This is just like being rushed to A&E for emergency surgery, then moaning when the nurse stabs you in the eye years later Ridiculous

aliceliddell · 07/07/2011 14:26

Grin MillyR

SybilBeddows · 07/07/2011 14:22

I was burgled. It was my own fault, because I went away for Christmas and left a downstairs window open. I don't usually talk about it because I feel ashamed and I know people will blame me for bringing it on myself.

CrapolaDeVille · 07/07/2011 14:18

I am both laughing at and feeling sorry for Rhubarb.
