to make a little sign for this woman?

I have ranted on a previous occasion about the morning rat-run through our village so very quick summary:

Single track roads - short-cut to city - I am apparently only person who needs to go opposite direction during rush-hour - majority of people coming the other way clearly think I am unreasonable for driving through my own village and glare and head-shake at me - I am cross.

Obviously it is the holidays now, so the school run traffic is missing which makes life much easier. However, there is one woman who I see every single time. She drives very fast on a narrow, twisty road with several blind bends so I finish up crawling around corners in case she comes hurtling the other way. She flatly refuses to back up even a couple of feet to the nearest passing space, and she makes no attempt to move over so that both cars can pass without scraping through the hedge. So I finish up reversing to the next passing space with her driving about 6 inches off my front bumper with a face like thunder, and then as soon as the road widens at all, she squeezes past, glaring at me all the time and shaking her head.

Bearing in mind the following:

  1. I live here and have as much right to leave the village as she does to cut through it.

  2. I drive a very small car which causes minimal obstruction.

  3. I don't drive dangerously fast.

  4. I am the one reversing and getting off the road.

would I be unreasonable to make a little sign saying "The next time you shake your head at me will be the last time I reverse for you. I can sit here all day - how about you?"

Would probably be unreasonable to add "cowbag" at the end, I suppose.

I've loved this thread - well done Panda! Grin

IloveJudgeJudy · 05/05/2011 09:55

Thank you so much for updating, Panda. I love the way that you were so patient and only said what you said without ranting. That definitely is the way to go. I have got this on my watch list and have been almost wishing my life away so that I can read the next instalment.

Please don't reverse next time unless the nearest passing space is on your side. Also, please update again.

pluPassionatelyHatingAntiAV · 05/05/2011 09:54

Great work. Simply great. She gets worse and worse, doesn't she?

I am so glad MN has started highlighting the OP, as this thread would be impossible otherwise!

Lotkinsgonecurly · 05/05/2011 09:53

Brilliant - I've been a lurker on this thread and am so happy, a moral victory.

How about a few blue stripes on the side of your car or a carefully placed police badge ?

SiriuslyBlack · 05/05/2011 09:51

Yes, have a sign in your car ready, with "My turn today" on one side and "Your turn today" on the other.

ChippingIn · 05/05/2011 09:50

So - when is next time?? Is it tomorrow?

No embelishment necessary - it was pure perfection! Grin

HerHissyness · 05/05/2011 09:49

Panda - You are the ALPHA female of the Lanes now. You no longer need to REVERSE panda, you have carved out your notch in the pecking order

you are indeed a legend!

Of course you could always hire a fancy dress Policeman's jacket scare the shite out of her

MNHQ: we need a PANDA emoticon, can someone give the Bear a makeover?

Oh while I'm at it, can we have a [redflag] emoticon for Relationships board?

RunsWithScissors · 05/05/2011 09:49

You, you are my hero!!!!

thefirstMrsDeVere · 05/05/2011 09:40

'I love your hair' hahahahaha.
Brilliant - you MUST say that next time. Please.

fearnelinen · 05/05/2011 09:40

Please hold up a big sign saying 'Shall we take turns?' as you reverse!!

She will either want to bite your sugary sweet head off like a jelly baby, or cave in and invite your round for tea! You could be laughing about this over sherry in 40 years time!

HerHissyness · 05/05/2011 09:39

Ooh, an update.... this deserves a cafetiere... (got no milk.. )

Back in a sec

DameShirleyKnot · 05/05/2011 09:35

Yes kungfu - do the smily lovely thing next time - she will be incandescent!

Was your heart all pumping and your palms all sweaty and feary and that?

xstitch · 05/05/2011 09:35

Perfect just perfect kungfu The 'Thank you, so kind' was just the icing on the cake.

bumpybecky · 05/05/2011 09:34

Panda, I love you! Brilliant :)

TandB · 05/05/2011 09:33

If I get a camera I will mount it on a big pole and stick all sorts of notices on my car saying "TRAFFIC WATCH" and things like that.

I heart you, panda. This thread has made my day about three times

You will tell us what happened next week, won't you? Is it technically your turn now, or are you going to make up for lost time?

Hmm. Difficult one. I think I shall be annoyingly obliging and rob her of the chance to be angry. I might reverse speedily and without argument and then wave her through graciously.

Possibly mouthing 'I like your hair' or something equally ingratiating.

Kungfu - you rock Grin

Ripeberry · 05/05/2011 09:31

P.S, they are similar to the ones cyclist use., the one I got is called 'Mini DV' from JTEK Ltd, hill cottage, S45 0BX.
Perfect for you and may come in useful for the council so they can see how ridiculus the driving is around those lanes.

AnonymousBird · 05/05/2011 09:31

ROFPMSL

Treeeemendous work Panda.

Bumperlicioso · 05/05/2011 09:31

Well done! I'm even less sympathetic towards her given that she was on her phoen. Do you feel all wired now from your victory? Dum. Dum dum dum Grin

"I was quite surprised that the three cars in the passing place she had to reverse to were so patient - there was no tooting or anything. Maybe they recognised someone at the end of their patience."

No, they were probably just MNers!

Oh, I didn't think of that!

Chippingin - it did occur to me to embellish a little to keep the masses happy. I wondered about claiming that she got out of her car leaving the handbrake off and then it ran away down the hill but I thought the real version of events was good enough.

and I am not a good enough liar to get away with adding stuff

yoshiLunk · 05/05/2011 09:30

You are the master.

By the way, this may have already been said but the Police (I don't now if it's just a local thing) run this facility for civilians to report dangerous or careless drivers, or those using their mobiles whilst driving, ....just a thought

ljgibbs · 05/05/2011 09:29

Brilliant! well done Panda.

I bet she's at work complaining about a totally unreasonable woman who refused to back up for her. Grin

WalterFlipschicks · 05/05/2011 09:28

Excellent work Panda!!
God I love this thread, 'wagged my finger at her' hilarious!
