to make a little sign for this woman?

I have ranted on a previous occasion about the morning rat-run through our village so very quick summary:

Single track roads - short-cut to city - I am apparently only person who needs to go opposite direction during rush-hour - majority of people coming the other way clearly think I am unreasonable for driving through my own village and glare and head-shake at me - I am cross.

Obviously it is the holidays now, so the school run traffic is missing which makes life much easier. However, there is one woman who I see every single time. She drives very fast on a narrow, twisty road with several blind bends so I finish up crawling around corners in case she comes hurtling the other way. She flatly refuses to back up even a couple of feet to the nearest passing space, and she makes no attempt to move over so that both cars can pass without scraping through the hedge. So I finish up reversing to the next passing space with her driving about 6 inches off my front bumper with a face like thunder, and then as soon as the road widens at all, she squeezes past, glaring at me all the time and shaking her head.

Bearing in mind the following:

  1. I live here and have as much right to leave the village as she does to cut through it.

  2. I drive a very small car which causes minimal obstruction.

  3. I don't drive dangerously fast.

  4. I am the one reversing and getting off the road.

would I be unreasonable to make a little sign saying "The next time you shake your head at me will be the last time I reverse for you. I can sit here all day - how about you?"

Would probably be unreasonable to add "cowbag" at the end, I suppose.

I pschaw on your handwritten sign kungfu and suggest this.

Pre-program it with a hierarchy of messages to convey your increasing exasperation with SheWhoWillNotBeArsedToReverse.

I live in the darkest West Country so I also sympathise and would gladly join the zombie flash mob! Us Pandas must stick together!

My mother was once overtaken by some twat in a flashy sports car on a really dangerous section of road in cornwall. We drove that road daily so we knew what he didn't - basically the temporary traffic lights round the next bend.

We pulled around it nice and slow to find flashy twat sitting at the red traffic lights while tractors and the suchlike rolled s-l-o-w-l-y out of the junction. He could see us in his rear view mirror as we absolutely pissed oursleves laughing and he knew that we could see him sat there seething!

Can you not put a call out to your local 'Hells Angel' lookey-likey biker chapter to all come and sit behind you looking menacing? They will probably all be nice chaps - if my experience of bikers is anything to go by!

Grockle · 15/04/2011 23:13

This thread is fab! We have lots of tiny villages round here (Dorset) with similar incidents that make me seethe with rage. Next time, I dhal stay put. Good luck OP. I'd gladly join the Flash Mob Grin

WillYouStewTheLambShankOh · 15/04/2011 22:53

ha ha I could probably make it actually

And I have a gammy leg so I would make a BRILLIANT zombie

HerHissyness · 15/04/2011 22:47

Somerset is not a million miles from North Hampshire.... I have diesel... Just let us know?

MUMSNET ROAD TRIP!! I can see the picnic now, Waitrose yummies, nice ham, OOh, it'd be lovely!

marriednotdead · 15/04/2011 22:43

Another shameless thread marker here.

Pity it's so far- am tired enough to do the Thriller dance without needing makeup.

plupedantic · 15/04/2011 22:03

There is definitely something in the air. I had some twat following me through a narrow (park-urban) road today, beeping. I was already doing 20mph, so thought he really ought to be disciplined a bit!

Luckily, he was behind me, so I could ignore him, rather than being at a disadvantage in forcing him to do something.

ChaoticAngelofchocolateeggs · 15/04/2011 21:57

I'd love to come and help but....

a. I live in the north west
b. I don't drive

Mind you I could have done an excellent impersonation of a zombie considering what time I'd have had to have got up Grin

hidinginthecupboard · 15/04/2011 21:52

You have all made me laugh after feeling crap all day so thank you!

And now I have marked my place too... looking forward to the update..

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 15/04/2011 21:49

So tempted, if only I didn't live in Scotland. I love the SW.

Jaydles · 15/04/2011 21:48

Me too pigeon I was looking forward to doing a sit in, bit too far for me I'm afraid

TandB · 15/04/2011 21:47

I would happily provide brunch for a MN convoy...

PigeonPie · 15/04/2011 21:45

Oh bother - I was looking forward to a convoy Grin Somerset is a bit far of a morning after school and playgroup drop off!

TandB · 15/04/2011 21:41

My DP really, really wants the zombie thriller dance plan to go ahead!

Thederkinsdame - that is awful.

Pigeonpie - Somerset now - I was in Oxfordshire when I saw the horse-crushed car.

thederkinsdame · 15/04/2011 21:35

Agree with Jaydles, keep your doors locked and go for the reading a book option.

GentleOtter · 15/04/2011 21:34

Oh good! A zombie plan with mums, cows, tartan flasks and new emoticons.
I feel the need to panic buy.Grin

PigeonPie · 15/04/2011 21:32

You could also get an Institute of Advanced Motorists leaflet to hand to her / pop under her windscreen wiper (if you want to get that close) when you get out to go for your picnic, to suggest she might like some slightly more advanced training Grin

I'll come and form a convoy behind you if you're in North Oxfordshire.

Jaydles · 15/04/2011 21:31

Bloody hell what a fucking idiot he punched you for daring to beep at his fuckwit driving!
Ok KFP make a sign and sit tight but make sure you have locked the doors first :)

gnushoes · 15/04/2011 21:25

placemarking too.
the world divides into people who drive apologetically and those who drive like arses.

PelvicFloorsOfSteel · 15/04/2011 21:25

YAB a little U for starting this thread on a Friday Grin, it's going to be a long wait to find out what happens!

Not unreasonable at all to make her reverse though.

I know a lot of this is just talk, but please be careful! Someone pulled out in front of me once, making me swerve across 3 lanes of traffic. I hooted my horn, as he nearly killed us both. When I stopped at the lights he opened my door and punched me. Just remember, as satisfying as it is, you never know who's behind the wheel of the other car.

CaurnieBred · 15/04/2011 20:58

Marking my spot too. Do the sign: do something. Rude cow that she is.
