to make a little sign for this woman?

I have ranted on a previous occasion about the morning rat-run through our village so very quick summary:

Single track roads - short-cut to city - I am apparently only person who needs to go opposite direction during rush-hour - majority of people coming the other way clearly think I am unreasonable for driving through my own village and glare and head-shake at me - I am cross.

Obviously it is the holidays now, so the school run traffic is missing which makes life much easier. However, there is one woman who I see every single time. She drives very fast on a narrow, twisty road with several blind bends so I finish up crawling around corners in case she comes hurtling the other way. She flatly refuses to back up even a couple of feet to the nearest passing space, and she makes no attempt to move over so that both cars can pass without scraping through the hedge. So I finish up reversing to the next passing space with her driving about 6 inches off my front bumper with a face like thunder, and then as soon as the road widens at all, she squeezes past, glaring at me all the time and shaking her head.

Bearing in mind the following:

  1. I live here and have as much right to leave the village as she does to cut through it.

  2. I drive a very small car which causes minimal obstruction.

  3. I don't drive dangerously fast.

  4. I am the one reversing and getting off the road.

would I be unreasonable to make a little sign saying "The next time you shake your head at me will be the last time I reverse for you. I can sit here all day - how about you?"

Would probably be unreasonable to add "cowbag" at the end, I suppose.

Ha! Well done with the wave.

Marking place for next week.

I feel the timing of this should lead you to a kind of Royal Wedding street party-esque event, possibly with zombies, with bunting and flags and mugs and shit. All local Mners should join you with picnic blankets.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 21/04/2011 22:33

I love this thread more than is normal Grin

Grockle · 21/04/2011 22:04

Oh no... I came on MN specifically to find out what happened! I can't wait til next week!

dawntigga · 21/04/2011 20:11

kungfupanda

You could put up signs in the manner of the local/AV elections or better yet like the ones outside churches.

Reverse now the end is nigh!

Herhissyness - I don't do Twitter I'm afraid. I quite liked the idea of it but was massively put off when an entirely bonkers ex-housemate of mine started living her entire life by tweet and oversharing just a leeeetle bit.

OP posts:

Pigeonpie - definitely not a fellow nursery-user - she would have been too early to drop off - we got there bang on 8 and we were the first people.

JBck - no, just her usually grumpy, the-world-owes-me-a-living-and-isn't-paying-up face.

Skiinggardner - liking your thinking but unfortunately I work in London Monday to Wednesday so different nursery on those days!

And now for the important bit - the day was not a complete failure. I did a later than usual pick-up and MET HER ON THE WAY BACK!!

There was no stand-off, but I did come across her just as I was coming out of a narrow bit into a wider bit so she did have to stop to wait for me - which judging by her expression did not improve her day. I gave her a bright smile and a cheery wave which was intended to convey "till next week, cowbag".

So not what everyone was hoping for, but not a complete fail!

Maybe she has seen this thread and was trying to avoid you, OP?Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 21/04/2011 17:51

Gah, had watched this thread and lurked and couldn't wait to find out what happened.

Can we have a whip round to pay for extra nursery sessions?

MCos · 21/04/2011 17:37

"Anyway, now when I reverse for some twat one I wind the window down when they are level with me and commiserate with them on their inability to reverse. That makes them quite cross."

ha ha - love this!

Jbck · 21/04/2011 15:23

Did she have a ' I recognise you from somewhere but can't place you' look on her face?

microserf · 21/04/2011 14:22

HerHissyness · 21/04/2011 14:16

Kungfu, we need you on twitter! you could tweet your updates, to those of us that are there and also to @MumsnetTowers... and they could update the home page feed.

I'm @LilMsHissyFit.... there are a stack of us on there already!

seeksnewnamewithgsoh · 21/04/2011 14:15

Maybe she's a mnetter and left late on purpose... Shock

Can't wait for next Thursday Grin

PigeonPie · 21/04/2011 14:12

kungfu - I've just had an awful thought... She doesn't have a car seat in her car and drops her DC off at your nursery does she?

MillsAndDoom · 21/04/2011 13:28

Oh no! Can't wait for next thursday

BaadRobot · 21/04/2011 13:09

This thread is hilarious! Can't wait for next Thurs Grin

comixminx · 21/04/2011 13:03

So funny! Marking my place for next week...

MrsMeow · 21/04/2011 12:38

How very dare she be late! I can't believe we have to wait another week now - can't you put your DC in nursery for a few extra days? Wink

BagofHolly · 21/04/2011 12:38

I'm picturing the OP in her car, putting on her Slanket, opening a flask and cheerfully reading Take a Break!

C'mon, what happened???

Aaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!
(ok shameful place marking Blush really want to know what'll happen)

fuzzywuzzy · 21/04/2011 11:26

Oh arse, and here I am trying to pretend to work and watch this thread at the same time....and doing badly at both...pah!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 21/04/2011 11:17

It didn't happen, fuzzy - the woman was running late (so rude) and so the OP didn't meet up with her until the village, where she had to give way to her because the bollards told her to.

fuzzywuzzy · 21/04/2011 11:01

She's prolly still sitting there in a silent face off refusing to reverse.

That's why she's nto here updating us.... she shoudl have taken a smartphone and given us live updates!

wolfhound · 21/04/2011 10:56

marking place too. will be part of virtual flask mob...
