To wake four sleeping children, then drag them to the shop in the pouring rain?

Okay I need advice, have posted here because its the busiest place. My Dc are all sleeping, aged 7yrs nearly3yrs and 18months.

I have an aquaintances newborn with me who I am looking after unexpectedly after a frantic phone call. Newborn is three weeks old, mum has been taken ill, rushed to A&E. She is a single parent and has no family nearby, I only know her through mother and toddlers.
Baby was dropped to me half hour ago by her very elderly neighbour, there was no-one else to take him when she was taken ill, he would have gone into emergency care Sad

I have nappies and clothes, but baby is usually breast fed. I am no longer feeding any of mine. I dont have formula.

Its pissing down outside, all the kids are fast asleep and will object to being woken or walking anywhere,I dont own a double buggy, no longer have a sling, and dh is working away.

How the fuck am I gonna get a newborn a 18month 3yr old and poorly 7yr old to the shop and back. aggggghhh!

Its a 6/7 min walk there, I could run in under 5mins, should I do that do you think? Leaving them sleeping? Or waking the seven yr old and talking to him on the homephone from my mobile? would that be insane? or is it more insane to try and get them all up and there with only one buggy and torrential rain.
Someone HELP!!!

Poor you, hope you get it sorted, babys mum is ok

stoppinchingthedummy · 12/01/2011 21:19

I live in north wales so i doubt very much i live nearby but i hope someone does and you get help

wukter · 12/01/2011 21:19

You'll have to ring a friend or neighbour to go, otherwise a taximan. Don't dream or waking them and you can't leave them, imo.

PomBearEnvy · 12/01/2011 21:19

There are only five houses in our culdesac, two are holiday homes. I have tried knocking on next door, but noone answered, the other houses are very elderly and frail. They wont answer the door at this time of night, let alone go to the corner shop. Im running out off time shop shuts at 10.00.
I did try ring through to them,( the shop)but nobody is answering. I thought someone from the there might be able to stop by on the way home to drop formula off if I paid by card over phone. shit shit shit.

I have unused bottles and a steriliser - NP12 - as well as cartons and formula if it is any help at all.

eviscerateyourmemory · 12/01/2011 21:17

Do you know anyone who is bottle feeding who could drop things round to you?

DanceInTheDark · 12/01/2011 21:17

You need a 24 hour tesco type shop for bottles and teats as well as formula (Don't need a steriliser if you have a dishwasher) so yes i would wake them if you can't get a neighbour or MNetter to help.

Where abouts are you?

FlamingoBingo · 12/01/2011 21:16

OP, I'm GL4 if that helps x

TitianTinselTemptress · 12/01/2011 21:16

Bumping for you

pinkem · 12/01/2011 21:16

Me too postcode SG16.

bibbitybobbityhat · 12/01/2011 21:16

If I was in this situation I would ring a friend of mine and ask them to go.

scouserabroad · 12/01/2011 21:16

Ask a neighbour / taxi firm... I'm sure anyone would help if you explained the situation.

I know I would help if a neighbour asked me, even if it was someone I didn't know.

bloomingnora · 12/01/2011 21:15

Where are you? I am not going to bed until I have checked if I can help!

nbee84 · 12/01/2011 21:15

Another one that will help if you are near me - postcode AL10

MistyB · 12/01/2011 21:15

Yes find a neighbour but ask them to go to the shop.

PatPending · 12/01/2011 21:15

X-post with Katie

Guacamole · 12/01/2011 21:15

I think any of us would go on your behalf... Where are you!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 12/01/2011 21:14

Well you need the formula, plus maybe bottles, teats and steriliser too so you're going to have to go out somehow.

Getting a friend or neighbour to stay at home with all of the children is going to be easiest. I hope you've got a big supermaket nearby where you can pick everything up.

Where are you? DH is away with work so I'm stuck in with the boys, but I'm sure someone here could help.

Hope your friend is ok.

xx

PatPending · 12/01/2011 21:14

Not sure if this would work (and if cost is not an issue!) But, if there is no neighbour or any of your family who could help, could a local taxi-driver be asked to fetch some formula from the shop?
Sorry, can't think quickly of any thing else!

stoppinchingthedummy · 12/01/2011 21:14

Yea hopefully a mnetter may be able to help? i would go through your phonebook and ring a friend quick before it gets late x

AuntiePickleBottom · 12/01/2011 21:14

i would get a neighbour, if not then you really have no choice but to go to the shops.

or could you oh get an hour from work ???

FlamingoBingo · 12/01/2011 21:13

Where do you live? I'd go for you if you lived near me!

solo · 12/01/2011 21:12

Where abouts are you? maybe there's a MNetter nearby? I'd certainly go for you if you are within 5 miles...or I could bf lo for you...

mickeyjohn · 12/01/2011 21:12

oooooo bloody hell!! Is there ANYONE nearby you could ask to come and sit in your house while you dash to the shop?? I am sure most neighbours would be ok with this, if it's only for 10 mins and your kids are asleep. Otherwise I think waking the 7 year old and talking on the phone would be ok.....it's just too much to wake them all up (I think - am sure some people will disagree but I think chances are, they will all be totally fine) But if you could get someone to come and babysit for a few mins then do!!!
Hope you get it sorted - what a nightmare!!

FlamingoBingo · 12/01/2011 21:12

No - ask a neighbour, ring a friend - surely anyone with a heart would go and get stuff for you!??
