Any medical professionals awake please? Young adult daughter far from home on own with severe headache and worrying photo (sensitive image). Possible coffee ground emu.

Young adult daughter living and working away from home several hours away. Phoned her for a catch up tonight and she was complaining about a really bad headache for several hours. She then sent me this photo. I did a chat GPT and Dr Google and came up with phone an ambulance this is a medical emergency. Daughter refused to go to A&E, speak to 111 or have an ambulance and didn’t want any fuss. Spoke to her several times and she was insisting it was due to a chocolate brownie milkshake from earlier that day. Does anyone have any advice? Its after midnight and I can’t sleep and she isn’t responding to messages.

The last text message from her said she was going to try and get some sleep. I told her I was very worried about her and if she felt any worse to ring 111 or an ambulance if really bad and to call me anytime night or day for advice or to let me know how she was. She lives on the top floor of an HMO in a big city and doesn’t really know or see much of her housemates.

She really hates a fuss.

I just hope she is a sleep and wakes up to feel miles better and not really poorly. But she outright refused any suggestion of calling 111 or getting a taxi or Uber to A&E.

I'd ring her first thing in the morning to see how she is. Hopefully it is just something like a migraine but I wouldn't be taking any chances with potential coffee ground vomit.

I don’t know if I, ChatGPT and NHS online and Dr Google are all being over the top or whether it is a migraine and she will sleep it off I just wish she wasn’t so far away.

Does she feel unwell at all and/or have a temp? Has she eaten fine throughout the day? If so, would seem weird that it's just the brownie milkshake from the morning coming up?

coffee ground vomit was the first sign that my son was seriously unwell so I'd definitely keep checking in or her, especially if she feels unwell and/or has a temp.

Can she phone 111 and get their advice?

I tried to do this but needed to be in the same room as her. I asked her the questions on the 111 form and she really felt unwell and couldn’t be bothered a couple she wasn’t sure about but the recommendation was to seek immediate medical attention. She said no I offered to ring and pay for a taxi but she refused and said she couldn’t leave her bedroom and couldn’t be bothered with any fuss.

Everyone who gets migraines didn't get migraines until the first one. It definitely sounds like a migraine. She needs decent painkillers and a cool, dark room.

Thanks her brother used to get migraines when he was 14-15 but then he outgrew them the Dr thought it was hormone related. But my daughter hasn’t been to the Dr’s since Primary school as she is never ill.

She’s only 21, she has no idea that she ‘never gets migraines’ yet… looks like she may get them. I presume she’s taken pain relief and it hasn’t worked? As she’s not responding she’s probably asleep by now so hopefully that’s the worse of it over

Thanks that was what dr google and chat gpt were suggesting. She is a big chocolate fan and never has problems with this and never gets migraines.

She has the constitution of an ox and only ever had about four sick absences throughout primary and secondary school. I guess she is scared on her own and feels awful. She isn’t a kid who is perpetually ill and never complains about feeling ill.

This is in the photo of the sick in shower tray of her ensuite. She says she just has a very bad headache and vomiting no other symptoms. When I asked if it came on quickly or gradually she wasn’t sure. She is only 21 and doesn’t have any friends or relatives living nearby as has only moved there.

In that case she probably has a migraine.

I drunkenly ate a whole red velvet cake once and when I threw up next morning I thought I was vomiting blood 🙃

That is very reassuring. I certainly hope so. She has the milk shake in the morning and she was sick at night. Did you have an extreme headache for several hours too? She hasn’t been drinking.

I can see why you are worried. Why would she send that photo if not for a reaction - did she say anything with the photo? Young adult but what age?
Do you know where she is - if a hotel then you can ask reception to wake her up. Is she staying with someone? Police can do a welfare check. More info needed really before anyone can advise.
