Thread ready for results day tomorrow!

OP posts:

Just heard back from DD after dropping her at school at 8am.

she got AAB and an A in her EPQ. She’s been accepted into Kings College.

bloody kid is gutted because her EPQ was marked by school as A* but she was knocked down a mark which has dropped her to A. Part of me is feeling annoyed at her for being so ‘glass half empty’. But that’s typical of her.

she really wanted a different course at Kings, does anyone in the know think it’s worth calling them to see if she can switch? She wants History + IR but they’ve offered her History only.

Dragonscaledaisy · 13/08/2026 09:21

Well done to everyone! Fantastic to see so many young people off to university and taking that important first step to an amazing career. 😁

AuntyBulgaria · 13/08/2026 09:17

@lisaloo88 my DS also didn't get into Warwick (for MORSE). They are really strict when it comes to meeting offers. I believe they issue lots of offers but then their way of whittling them down is to not bend on grade requirements.

It's really tough. But your son will be brilliant wherever he ends up.

SwanWings · 13/08/2026 09:15

I don’t know how anyone’s letting their dcs sleep in !! Get up! 😂😂😂😂

sprinklesandtwinkles · 13/08/2026 09:15

DS got his first choice at LSE. He had to get an A in that awful Edexcel maths exam which he did, so relieved! Good luck everyone!

Givenup2026 · 13/08/2026 09:15

out son got into Manchester for Psychology ! First choice and the first member on his dad’s side to go to uni! So proud of him

Another one for York here. Phew! I loved the campus and the staff there. It s not too far from us either.
I was nearly sick by 8. Obviously DS was sanguine about it all.
We spent the past few days arguing about / preparing for clearing. So glad he does not have to go through it.
Good luck with navigating clearing 💐

Which York ? My dc goes to uni of York and loves it

bibliomania · 13/08/2026 09:13

@lisaloo88 that sounds really tough - but I'm sure he'll have no problem getting a great offer with those results, and having done Further Maths will help him a lot during his first year on the course. He does sound an amazing young man.

We are going to play the clearing roulette tomorrow.

Son has a place at local uni and there is zero chance of him missing the grades, but there is another uni that he would rather attend but who rejected him (25% acceptance rate only), hoping there are places in the morning once he gets confirmation of him hitting the required grades.

Anyone else in this boat?

How are you both doing today ? 🤞🤞

BoldBeans · 13/08/2026 09:13

@lisaloo88 Sorry to hear that, I would definitely call them and make sure they know he was self taught in FM. His school could also call them even though he didn't study the subject with them to make clear that they don't offer it and that he did it on his own. He must be absolutely exceptional to have got an A self taught.

lisaloo88 · 13/08/2026 09:13

fashionqueen0123 · 13/08/2026 09:03

Blimey he sounds incredible. Any uni would be lucky to have him. Do they know he self taught?
Does he have another back up option? Clearing?

Edited

Unfortunately it was for Warwick who I don’t believe change their minds. I doubt they know he was self taught as he is stubborn and doesn’t sell himself well. He got a contextual offer as he ticked off every criteria bar one. Thank you for your words he is incredible

HereWeAreToday · 13/08/2026 09:13

Dd did so much better than we expected and is into her firm. Much happier than after her GCSE results. She’s going to Notts - bit odd though because of their issues. She loves it there but with her results she could have gone anywhere

DS expected C or D after that Edexcel maths, but he got a B. He didn't do further maths.

Oh that is great!!

Beaa82 · 13/08/2026 08:20

Good Luck Everyone!!

I would be particularly interested in how it panned out with the A Level Maths exam that was in the news - was it Edexcel?

DD did Excel Maths and got an A, along with As in her other two subjects. No problems getting into the course. If she'd managed one A star, she'd also be eligible for a bursary each year of her degree, so I'll suggest that we look at grade boundaries and see if it's worth trying for a re-mark if any are close.

MadamNoo · 13/08/2026 09:10

AA and.a B that is 4 marks off an A. Missed first offer as a result .. worth getting a re-mark? How does that work, will they accept you late if you go back with revised result?

SwanWings · 13/08/2026 09:10

lisaloo88 · 13/08/2026 08:42

My son got A maths, A Further maths, A comp sci, A physics. He is absolutely gutted he didn’t get his firm, needed A in FM. The awful thing is he didn’t have to do FM as his college didn’t offer it this year so he’s done it all by himself as well as paying for the exams. If he didn’t do that he would have got in. Ahh well

Agree worth an phone call

he sounds exceptional

Ds was predicted A , thought he'd possibly drop to a B after paper one, but got an A. So hopefully the story is similar for everyone else and it hasn't impacted.

SwanWings · 13/08/2026 09:09

Anyone else reading this that doesn’t have a young person getting results today
yet you feel really invested and sitting here smiling and feeling genuine happiness

im so invested 😂😂

I don’t know actually - will ask - thanks for the prompt! Has your DC received one yet? DS applied for it a few months ago

No, the accommodation portal suggests they will get told next week!?

We're in at Newcastle for Marketing and Mangement in Clearing. He's absolutely thrilled. His firm was Northumbria but he really wanted Newcastle.
Tense hour but all sorted bar the paperwork.
Very relieved parents.
@Ventress hope all is well with you and your DC, you have been such a support at a terrible time in your own lives 🥰🩷

AAB, including an A in maths which she was convinced would be a C! She’s worked so hard for them and I’m so proud of her. She’s heading and DH have gone back to sleep! Off to Reading next year.
