Yep. Daughter took A levels 8 years ago, but I still like to cheer our young people and parents on.

No young person, and it was a VERY long time ago I did my own, but am enjoying reading the good news, and am hopeful for all those making phonecalls etc.

Sussex

They aren't publishing their grade requirements this year but last year courses were offered at CCD.

So this is perfectly plausible.

DS gor his first choice offer confirmed this morning. The requirements were AAB so we were thrilled and very happy. He's just gone to pick up his results and got CCD. We're totally confused as to how he's got his first choice. Can anyone shed any light?!

Which uni? Many who asked for AAB for courses are now offering them in Clearing for CCC/CCD.

Zanatdy · 13/08/2026 09:42

DD got 1 x A* and 3 A’s and is disappointed. She’s done amazing, but is very tough on herself.

What uni was it?

Depends on the uni and how desperate they are for bums on seats at the moment (Lecturer in HE).

Holding space for the Telegraph printing the annual picture of a photogenic pair of (white) girls jumping in the air as they've managed to get into Elite College, Oxbridge

It’s a boy, dark hair and facial hair with hand up.

As headline is about boys.

Did consider it but he is happy with his results so dont want him to think we arent happy proud with his results. Was his school who decided to get his gcse paper remarked will see if College say anything.

Yes DS was delighted and relieved with his mark as in one paper he bullet pointed his last paragraph as he ran out of time so was expecting the worst. It's only when he saw the grade boundary (3 off) that he thought he would ask for a remark. His school is open for clearing support only but he is in email contact and the teachers responded really quickly. He's been asking about re marks.

hels71 · 13/08/2026 09:36

DD got into her first choice. She got ABB which we are delighted with, but she's less happy as was predicted AAA. Apparently everyone in their textiles got lower than predicted and in English, which makes us wonder what went on...

ArchitectureMum · 13/08/2026 09:35

Edinburgh place confirmed! Such a relief. They accepted one dropped grade from DD thank goodness. Really proud of her results but DD is really upset about the surprise B and is going to get the transcripts to see what happened. A star and A in the others including an A in maths which was the one we were more worried about so 🎉🎉🎉 on the whole and out to celebrate soon.

Hope you are all getting the news you wanted and thanks for the company over the last rollercoaster of a year.

Echobelly · 13/08/2026 09:34

Congrats and good luck to everyone variously!

Well done to all those with great results (especially anyone going to Loughborough (DS2's uni, he had a great five years there) and Bristol (my own alma mater a thousand years ago)! Wink
Genuinely though, your YP have worked really hard and done so well – all the best to them all.

ETA: mean to also say that DD did not get what she needed, but she ended up through clearing (stressful) at a great uni (Leicester) and she came out with a wonderful degree; in many ways it was a very good uni for her.

Edited

Great to hear this! DS2 missed Bath first choice but in at Loughborough insurance so very pleased (and I'm v pleased not to need to do Clearing ..)

Echobelly · 13/08/2026 09:34

DC is into first choice uni, 3 Bs. Little disappointing considering they were 7-9s at GCSE (obviously not going to say as much to them, I expect they're a bit disappointed too, they thought it might be ABB) but I know they didn't enjoy music A level very much and biology was a challenge, but it doesn't matter much in the scheme of things and the important thing is they're on to next step.

thank you @HPFA

GirlsInGreen · 13/08/2026 09:28

DD got into her first choice. Such a relief! Well done to all your children. What a slog!

Gazelda · 13/08/2026 09:27

Sorry, how rude of me, congratulations to everyone in this thread and your young person.

Whether they’ve got what they needed for their first choice/apprenticeship or if they are looking at clearing or investigating other options, I’m sure that they’ll find their path to a fulfilling future. For those who are taking a gap year or have alternative plans, enjoy and good luck!

Just heard back from DD after dropping her at school at 8am.

she got AAB and an A in her EPQ. She’s been accepted into Kings College.

bloody kid is gutted because her EPQ was marked by school as A* but she was knocked down a mark which has dropped her to A. Part of me is feeling annoyed at her for being so ‘glass half empty’. But that’s typical of her.

she really wanted a different course at Kings, does anyone in the know think it’s worth calling them to see if she can switch? She wants History + IR but they’ve offered her History only.

They're not offering the course in Clearing so it may be the places are filled.

However if she rings them they can only say No! It can't do any harm.

DS is saying if he's a mark or 2 off he's going to ask for a remark but I don't know if it's worth the bother. He's got where he needs to be
