A level results day 2026

DS is in and got 3A stars. Absolutely over the moon.

Suspension killing me wondering what grades he's got! As mentioned earlier, ucas showed accepted to his firm choice first thing. He went to college to get the actual results. Not heard anything yet so texted asking!

I agree. Son had one unconditional offer and I really hoped he'd put that as his firm just so we didn't have to go through this! But he was a bit more ambitious.

That sounds tough but Warwick is a great alternative. May I ask which course at Durham? My niece was holding an offer for history at Durham at A star, A, A and I haven't heard anything from my sister yet this morning so I am getting anxious she may have missed a grade...

@hels71no they don’t have to do anything and the uni will be in touch about next steps.
Now wouldn’t this have been a much more relaxed summer if all offers were firm as they had been applied to with known grades? When will they change this stupid, unnecessarily stressful system?
My DD decided to do an Art Foundation diploma so didn’t apply the cycle she got her grades. She did better than predicted (three A star grades against Astar AB predicted) which meant she could target better and offers were unconditional. Other countries do it. UK can do it too.

DS very unhappy here. He missed out on Bath by 1% on his Chemistry. We’re going for a review but it’s too late now I think. Got his insurance offer which, despite the offer being the same as Bath, we’re happy to take him.

Seconding, and you @lisaloo88 need to get on the phone too and explain that he effectively self-taught FM. That’s exactly the attitude which Warwick look for, a real self starter. They care about the roundness and character of their students, always have. It’s a great dept. He should fight for it!

Could be they were impressed with his personal statement and reduced grades for clearing so accepted him?

Dd went to college to collect results but she's not opening them till she gets home!! Arghh, we're on tenterhooks!

Well I’m sure he’ll be able to find the same course or similar elsewhere. He sounds so intelligent and really amazing he took the initiative to do that A level himself- that’s super impressive. I hope he’s not feeling too down about it. Yes just sounds like he needs to know how to sell himself now! :)

Congratulations everyone!

DC got 2 Astars and a B (PGs were AstarAA). Although one grade was higher and one lower, which should have equalled things out, Durham rejected him which was really disappointing. He's got a place through clearing at Warwick rather than accepting his insurance and I'm sure it will work out. Just disappointing not to get Durham after getting the 2 Astars. I'm trying to stay really positive for him but now we have the issue around accommodation to sort out. On the positive side, the head of department at Warwick has texted him personally to say congratulations so that's a really nice touch and a good sign hopefully. I'm very proud of him and how hard he's worked.

Do they have to confirm anything with UCAS or is that automatically done when it says offer confirmed..??

Thank you. We will definitely be celebrating! It's just a bit of a shock as he worked so hard and was getting solid Bs all the way through. Sussex was always an aspirational choice but we all genuinely thought he had a good chance of getting As.
Oh well, the key thing is that he's going somewhere and studying something that he's really excited about!

As I say, last year almost all their courses in Clearing were at these grades so it's no surprise they like your DS, who actually wanted to go there in the first place.

Sussex will have known his results a couple of days ago; they confirmed him knowing what he had. Nothing but blue skies on that front. Congratulations to him — Brighton is wonderful.

Just heard from a friend her DS oot into Warick after dropping couple of grades.
Was for History so some flexibilty.

A*,A,A here so she’s off to Bristol. That will be 3 at uni at the same time😱

No he’s definitely in and can celebrate.
Some universities do take students with considerablly lower grades. It sounds like he had a strong application and maybe an off day in exams.

Haven't had chance to read all the posts yet, but just wanted to say DD got into Newcastle for medicine with 3 x A stars! Not expected at all but all very happy here.

I'll catch up on everyone elses achievements soon, what a relief it has been a stressful year.

He's been talking to teachers at school and they're saying his personal statement was really good, he applied early with Sussex as first choice and went to two open days, all of which might have counted in his favour but I am surprised that he dropped by so much and still got in. There's no way they can remove the offer now, right? He's had the email from Sussex as well as the UCAS confirmation

DH's nephew got in to Cambridge, so really pleased for him. Also means MIL gets a grandchild at Oxbridge, she would probably moan about it if she didn't!

Durham didn’t open clearing for home students, just international. Looks like they have a strategy to increase international students to 39% (they pay more) - but it is all good, Distinction (equivalent of an A) and 2 As, and got into his chosen uni.

Very pleased considering he had failed all of his mocks due to undiagnosed ADHD, from getting diagnosis/medication to exams he had about 2-3 months so the progress is astonishing. Shame there wasn’t enough time to gather enough evidence for extra time (especially on a 6 hour written exam) as this meant his A and destinction courseworks were let down by an inability to finish all of his papers. it’s a lesson in resilience though, and pushing hard to get over the line.
