Still no news! I messaged her last night wishing my DN good luck today and saying please let me know the outcome so I don't think I can ask again. Don't think it is looking good, I think whatever the actual grades she would just message saying "DN into Durham, will tell you more later" or "didn't make Durham but off to UCL" so the silence doesn't feel good to me. DN's insurance was either Warwick or UCL (can't remember) but I think that had similar grade requirements for history so worried about that too. Appreciate this really isn't about me and sure DN will do well wherever she goes...

She may be deciding between Clearing offers.

It feels more positive to give the news "DN didn't make first choice but has a great offer from X" rather than "DN didn't make offer and is wondering what to do".

Still waiting here. School were supposed to email grades. I phoned but got an answerphone.Brilliant. How do we find out what grades he got?

DS got into Bath Spa University but will defer for a year as he had heart surgery 2 weeks ago. He hasn't got his actual results yet as he's currently in A&E. Not quite the results day we'd anticipated. 🙈

Ah feck it. Dd didn't get what she wanted. Was offered a different course at her insurance but it's not what she wanted to do. Gap year planned anyway so not throwing her through clearing

Dd got into Bath - her first choice. Lots of tears all round. So proud! Feels like yesterday I was on mumsnet getting advice on breastfeeding so this all feels very surreal and emotional!

Lecturer here. Sometimes if we really want a student and like what they'll bring to the course we make an offer. The comments you made about his statement and enthusiasm might have decided it for him.

It's for History. Had heard from previous years that they sometimes accepts a grade lower but this year their applications have doubled apparently so no flexibility despite getting a higher grade in another subject. Hope it goes well for your niece and let us know when you have some news :)

@GiveOverWillYou Please reassure DD that nobody will give a rat's arse what her A Level grades were once she graduates with her degree from her FIRST CHOICE Uni - they really won't. Also, point out to her that the fact she made her first choice means that the Uni possibly saw something in her personal statement that swung it - far more kudos IMO.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn Both mine ended up at their Insurance Universities. And in both instances, they were fantastic outcomes in the end. DD has just graduated from Manchester with a 2:1 (less than half a mark off a First but we don't talk about that) and DS is going into his second year at Notts.

He's been talking to teachers at school and they're saying his personal statement was really good, he applied early with Sussex as first choice and went to two open days, all of which might have counted in his favour but I am surprised that he dropped by so much and still got in. There's no way they can remove the offer now, right? He's had the email from Sussex as well as the UCAS confirmation

My daughter got her firm but below predicted grades a few years ago, very similar reaction (despite it being a brilliant uni and great grades!) We went for a remark on a couple particularly low papers, but nothing shifted. She was terrified it would affect job applications.

She's just finished with a great degree, moving to London and starting a job she's really excited about next week.

Her sister got her results today and she's made a couple comments - but it's been a non-issue for three years. They're just a stepping stone! Once she has her degree, no one will think twice about her A levels.

I think we let her wallow for a second (while being very excited ourselves), but things move so quickly from here. Get her to Dunelm looking at kitchenware and bedding!

DD got her firm - and was delighted

Then picked up her grades and has been in bed in floods of tears ever since - didn’t get what she hoped for. She worked her arse off throughout and and thought all the papers had gone really well so doesn’t understand what happened. Now thinks she is ‘stupid and deluded’ (she’s neither)

We've talked it round and round but she won’t be comforted by the fact she got her place (!!) and thinks it will affect job prospects. Jollying her along didn’t go well, so have reverted to acknowledging her feelings of disappointment and sadness. . .

Heartbreaking how hard she is on herself and the catastrophising is a worry

Ds got the grades he needed just not in the order he expected! Happy bunny though and off to UoM to do Politics and Philosophy.

We’re finally out the other side of schooling after 23 odd years with the 4 of them, hooray and where’s my medal/gin 😁

This cohort has had such a challenging school career, what an amazingly resilient bunch!

Firm choice confirmed at Bath for Aerospace Engineering - he got A star in maths and As in physics comp sci and further maths. 3 marks off an A star in physics but won't bother with a review.

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn we have an email from Bath with a bit in it about re marks
It says if you get it re marked and the grade changes - by 1st sept - then they will still admit. After sept 1st it may be for the following year. If you pm me your email address I will find it and send you a screen shot!!

Would he be able to do a different course at the same place and then see if he wants to swap/ do optional modules in year 2?

After her first week of uni no one will ask her ever again what grades she got. Her end goal was the uni that she’s been accepted for - she’ll realise that soon enough xxxx
