A level results day 2026

One got 3Astars, so off to Manchester for Law. The other DN however had A star, A, B and wanted LSE IR (they ask for A, A, A) and she was rejected but got an offer for King's. She's really confused as her teachers said that A would count for something at lse. I've encouraged her about King's being a fab choice but she's still wondering why she didn't get in, with all he work experience at UN, starting a charity and the Astar..
Any ideas?

We're all overjoyed though, I have 8 of their friend staying over tonight!

Dd missed a B in both Business and English Language by 4 and 5 marks respectively. She won’t discuss a mark review, but I have asked her teachers to look at her papers. With A levels, they’re unlikely to go down a full grade as the margins are so wide. She’s got a place now. So I think she’s contented to stick to what she’s got. But I wanted that to be looked into.

I'd already bought the bedding for the extra long beds in son's accommodation (accommodation was confirmed a few weeks ago and deposit paid). Had to order some of it due to it needing 4 weeks. So last night I was thinking - well if he ends up going somewhere else he'll just have to tuck a bit more under the mattress!

Warwick does all the accommodation allocation after Aug 18th so as long as his place is confirmed and he's applied by then, he'll have the same chance at campus halls as everyone else. Sure you'll have it all sorted by then and he'll get somewhere good. I've heard nothing but good things from friends whose kids went there and it's very well rated. A friend's son went there last year after missing an Oxford offer and he's having the time of his life with zero regrets.

He/ you should look into a mark review. Grades can sometimes go up.

@Fabfabfab I used to live in Leamington, and it’s a fab area to live in (and I actually like Coventry! Not pretty but friendly). From memory from our open day there with DS (it was one of his 5), I think the ‘off campus’ accommodation is mostly only just off campus and still walkable, they’ve been doing a fair bit of accommodation expansion in recent years and have had the space around them to do it.

IMO DS got lucky there ! Loughborough is the most fantastic university. I guarantee he will love it . I studied there and it was the best 3 years of my life .

We went shopping! Spent a fortune on clothes and an outfit for clubbing tonight! She's now getting ready and im back at my desk working 🙄

DD didn’t get into her Firm but accepted into Insurance. She wanted to stay as local as possible so chose not to go through clearing. After a very happy chat this morning we’ve agreed that the insurance Uni is a better fit for her than her first choice.
For a kid with exam performance anxiety, we couldn’t be more proud. As a bonus, her lovely little group of mates smashed it out of the park and all got acceptances so we are now trying to convince a bunch of socially awkward teens to let us put on a celebration in their honour

She’s done amazingly well ! Time to look to the fantastic future she’s about to embark on. No need to revisit the A levels and let’s face it she’s got a good batch of grades there.

@AuntyBulgaria @JustHereWithMyPopcorn sorry to hear they didn't get their firm either. How are they feeling now? DC is still disappointed (although seeing friends now and will be out partying the whole evening) but starting to come around to the idea of Warwick. Just a bit sad he doesn't feel more ecstatic today after achieving such good grades (Astar, Astar, B). EPQ didn't make any difference as Durham said they don't even look at it.

If anyone has anything good to say about Warwick then that would cheer us up. I know it's a brilliant university and that DC is very lucky. It's also closer to home than Durham which is a positive (for me and DH at least!). I'm just a bit worried DC won't get campus based halls and end up in Coventry. He can't apply for accommodation yet as UCAS hasn't officially confirmed his place (despite him having the verbal and written confirmation from Warwick on email).

Some universities (Uni of Glasgow is the one I know) offer an academic excellence bursary, so if you get a certain level of results (A star AA in this case), you get £1000 per year, whatever course you are on.

DD got AAA so won't be eligible. Not particularly close to the grade boundary in any of them, so we've agreed it's not worth chasing a re-mark.

Congratulations to all who have achieved the results they needed and/or wished for, and to those who have found a place even if they did not meet their original target grades.

Hope parents who were anxious are calmer now.

Dd2 had an awful interview at Cambridge years ago and then she got her offer AAA with the A in further maths. She was so upset and really nervous going in for her results. She did get the A*.

Me too, but they won’t be staying too long apparently!
They’re really lovely kids so I don’t mind at all, and hopefully neither will the neighbours if they really don’t stay here all night!

Oh lord I have a house full of drunken teenagers 😂. He’s invited them back here.

DS got A star in maths and A,A,A in FM, physics and computer science. Got his first choice of Birmingham but is deferring for a year (possibly completely) as he has a DA. We’ve told him not to reject the offer in case he hates the apprenticeship.

Anyone still 'waiting on confirmation'?

Dds called the uni and they will get to her hopefully today? Apparently something with IT system.
We're hoping it's good news as surely if it's a no, they could have said?
Dont want to confirm insurance yet!

DC2 got their grades and is off to first choice uni so really thrilled. What are the courses that people are mentioning where they get £4000 bursaries to study? DC3 is applying next so I’ll have 3 at uni at once (£££ouch) so would love to hear more about these courses to nudge them in that direction!

God we all know okay. But could you just let people have this day to feel proud, excited etc without the prophecies of doom. 🙄

We used to hear all this stuff about useless degrees and too many people going to uni when I went back in the 80s. Kingsley Amis was ranting about the horrors of university expansion back in the 60s.

There used to be a joke going around ;

Q. "What do you say to an English Cambridge graduate?"

A. "Burger and fries please."

Maybe being a plumber should be a positive choice and not the thing everyone is told to do instead of the Art degree they've set their hearts on?

Agree. When you see images of young people crying and hugging, there's no cause to doom-monger. No one knows the future and the moment is a happy one. It's like seeing a happy couple getting wed and going about divorce stats.
