Waiting for GCSE results and starting y12.

All I want is for my dd to be pleased with her results and to have a nice day and perhaps go out for lunch.

When my ds did his gcses 3 years go I waited at the school and saw some kids coming out crying :-( just broke my heart.

We went to an open day yesterday, she really liked it, so will be one she will applying to.

The cost of student halls has gone up considerably in recent years, god only knows what it will be when she goes in 2 years time 😬😂

Checking in for the year 12 rollercoaster. DD is expecting everything from a 5s-9s but has been offered a place at a very competitive sixth form if she gets the results, so we are anxiously awaiting Thursdays results.

She’s halfway through her 2 week course at the Royal Drawing school, is a good taster as she’s keen to go to art school after A-levels. We haven’t given university a thought yet, seems so far away!

Hopping on as also waiting for gcse results next week having been through the stress and elation of A levels last week with my eldest. We are also booking two open days for October. What I learnt with my eldest is to start early and spread them out. She was going to apply for Oxford so needed to do them before October deadline but in the end she got a Saturday job and just couldn’t take that many days off in the summer term so we only visited two, and one with school. Wish we had started earlier in year 12 and could have done more.. what I didn’t realise is that visiting some led to crossing them off the list rather than loving them, so that meant needing to add more to the pool. My next one wants to do vetmed so hence also the need to start early and see at least three in autumn and three in summer term. Really don’t want to be visiting any in autumn of year 13 when they are manically preparing personal statements and doing interview prep.. and mocks. I realise it’s different for those applying in Jan but just a warning, year 13 is insanely intense and whizzes by in a flash.

There's a huge GCSE thread on secondary education board too 🙂 My son is autistic and is moving to a specialist unit for post 16 for kids who academic. (Mainstream until end of year 11) I'm still nervous for Thursday even though he doesn't need specific grades!

We did summer of year 12 for uni open days for my older one. Current y11 child definitely not ready to start thinking about uni yet.

the earliest I look is either summer of year 12 or autumn of year 13. There’s no need to look at the start of year 12 or even before.

Waiting (can I say impatiently??) too. My lovely brain, who likes to overthink has gone through every scenario imaginable (and some that aren’t haha), DD is as relaxed as anything.

She is predicted 7-9’s and is (hopefully) going onto A-levels at her school. She says she’s happy with anything above a 6.

She’s still debating uni - we don’t mind whatever she decides to do just as long as she’s happy.

We’ve done open day already but it was pretty local and we happened to be free. Was good to help DD visualise it

You can start looking at them now - If you go onto the universities websites that they're interested in, they will have their open days on there - they are spread out throughout the year.

My daughter will need work experience to get on her course, so we are trying to figure out which universities she likes and what work experience they are asking for, so she can make sure she has time to sort and complete it before she applies next year x

Joining in now that DS1’s A level results and future plans are sorted, and can now switch to DS2 and his GCSEs! Both in the same year wasn’t the most fun of times! At least we got an early family holiday after exams were over.

I’m a bit nervous for next week, as DSs school have really high grade thresholds to meet to get onto specific A levels, so we might need to do a bit of readjusting of choices depending on his grades. He’s not totally fixed on his options though, so I think will want to make a subject switch versus having to move to another school or college.

God I didn’t even think about viewing unis! When does that start?

We have been to 1 open day so far and we are going to another tomorrow.

She loved the department for her degree at the first one, it was a small university.
Tomorrow is a much larger university, if the department is just as good, it will give her an indication on whether she would prefer a small or large university, which will then hopefully help her to decide which others to look at.

DD waiting for results also - expecting grades to be between 7s - 9s except from 1 Subject where she knows she messed up 1 of the exams - hopefully she will maybe scrape a 6 in that 🙏

She is staying on at her school for 6th form.
She knows what career path she wants to follow and has started to look at universities - hoping Andy Burnham comes good over apprenticeships and apprentiships in her chosen career become available (save her getting into debt🤞)

Ds waiting for his results next week. Predicted mostly 7s with a few 8 in history and music.

off to to alevels local to us, he’s taking history, music technology and politics. Wants to do history at uni.

He’s convinced he’s going to fail his GCSE’s and not get into sixth form!

DD here due a salad of grades but needs 667 and a 6 in maths for sciences at 6th form. Could have done better but didn’t work hard enough. Feel like I just want to know now so we can make plans

DS is hoping to go to a different high school for A-level & rugby academy

hes my most capable of the 3 so I’m hoping his hard work has paid off

hes off at a festival this weekend without a care in the world 💁🏼‍♀️

Waiting on results here. Not too worried but would like to know. Expecting mainly 7’s, a couple of 8’s and possibly one 5 or 6 so all in a good place for A levels but at a new school

On tenterhooks here. DS1 is autistic and struggled with the long exam season and really not sure what grades he will end up with as a result - we have 3 offers and a plan D in mind depending on the results but he really wants to stay at his school so nerves are high here now, never mind in 19 days time! Weird as we can’t really prepare for the autumn as all the options are kind of different :(.
Any destressing tips (for me) welcome. He’s got no sense of time and is only stressed when someone reminds him about results day (so that’s not happening, obviously!).

DS is very academic and has the potential to hit a good number of 9's. He is keen to do 4 A-Levels and needs his average grade to be over 7.5 I think so fingers are crossed for him, no idea if he revised enough to achieve that but he has a great memory so you never know
