Hehe, reminds me of when DS1 was still at school and the parent WhatsApp group started discussing the smart phone and other screen time limits and how best to impose them and get the school to do something too. And then some of the boys hacked the WhatsApp.

DD has been reasonably productive as she was given a pretty substantial amount of holiday homework, plus her weeks away with friends and picking up some extra shifts for her job. She’s made good progress with her personal statement but let’s hope school agrees. She’s now packing for Reading Festival (well, she’s actually been packing for weeks!). I think they’re setting up tents tomorrow. Such a shame storms are due.

I am relieved little work is going on elsewhere. Laziness is underrated.

London will still be there after their uni years if they still fancy it. They’ll hopefully have more money to spend post uni too!

Little work going on here too, rather to my frustration. I have pointed out to him if he hadn’t decided to apply to Cambridge I wouldn’t be having to nag him! I suspect he will end up dropping chemistry when he goes back to college as he really doesn’t want to do it. He did a few days of work experience at the start of the summer, and has drafted his personal statement.

I’m dreading this school year as I also have my middle DS in year 11, so fear I face a year of nagging!

DD2 has been working in her Saturday cafe job full time all summer. She did a week of w/ex. at an Architecture firm, which she really enjoyed and got a lot from. She went to her first festival, only for a day, but it's massively out of her comfort zone so I was impressed that she managed even that! DD2 and her boyfriend had a couple of days in Bath, and she's done some day trips to London, Bristol and Cardiff. She did get a lot of college work done in the first month or so, but is now stressing that she still has loads to do and not enough time.

She doesn't go back until Friday afternoon, so she's got 3 more shifts, then 3.5 days to get everything else sorted. I'm sure it's going to be a stressful week (for the whole household!), but I know she'll feel better once she's back in her usual routine and can "lock in", as she's so fond of saying!

Back to school for Ds. Final year of having a Ds at school after 20 years with at least one at school.

Ds didn’t want to go. He could view his new timetable yesterday. Red week Thursday, so today, he has one single period. So he was moaning it will be a boring day. You’d think he’d be pleased to see friends.

He booked his weekly driving lesson for Monday as he could see no lessons in the afternoon. He text me earlier to say that the school have changed rules, they aren’t allowed to leave at lunchtime this year, my older 2 ds’s used to come home at lunchtime if no lessons at all. Ds didn’t last school year, but now he’s dropped chemistry he said he will have less lessons, so once he can drive he’ll come home. Anyway, driving lesson moved to after school now. He’s hoping to pass his test soon. One of his mates was 17 just 2 weeks ago and passed his test yesterday. That was super quick!

Crikey that was a quick pass! DD’s school don’t allow 6th formers to leave the premises at all during the school day regardless if they’ve afternoon lessons or not. They cannot leave at lunch either. Very different to the school my other two went to. They could come and go as pleased. She doesn’t mind because she gets lots of work done whilst there and everyone is in the same boat. They get a lot of home work and every subject has exams every fortnight so there’s always study to do in ‘frees’. She would faff and tik tok scroll if she was at home!

Is it a school 6th form thing, not being allowed to leave the premises? My DC are in colleges and are allowed to come and go as they please.

All 3 of mine are/were at a school sixth form rather than a college. The first two were allowed to come & go at theirs but my youngest’s isn’t at hers. Colleges are definitely more relaxed. We have the wrong postcode for our nearest college so she had to go to a school. Our postcode is like a little sliver /finger poking into the city. It only became an issue this year with the VAT on private schools and the demand for the state college rocketing. So rather than working on mileage from the college (which would have worked for us) they did postcode which excludes the little sliver / finger. She’s happy at the new school so all good! And does mind having to be there all day.
