@wonderstuff Congratulations to your daughter! My younger girl will be au pairing in Paris starting in August and she is absolutely delighted. She's already planning some art and culinary classes and meet-ups with other au pairs.

@Lalux , thank you! We paid for first dose so I was trying to find out if NHS bookings had opened up but was drawing a blank.

I mentioned earlier results are one month today but got told to SHUSH in now uncertain terms!

She absolutely is sensible; you are correct. We do have an app that will send me an alert if her levels leave the safe range, though it's a bit laggy. She's also seen her diabetes educator about how to talk to others in halls about how she manages her diabetes and what a crisis potentially looks like. She doesn't want them to feel responsible for her, but I've told her she won't be the only person managing health issues.

That's it exactly. It's not that I doubt her readiness to cope with it more independently. It's that I doubt my own ability not to worry. But this is happening regardless. And I need to just adjust.

DD just secured an au pair job in Madrid for September and October, frustrating that due to Brexit she is quite limited on how much time in EU she can spend after that (we have a couple of weeks holiday booked too).

Super proud of her, she is quite an anxious person and initially had planned to just have a holiday but wanted to improve her Spanish and came around to this as a plan, she’s great with kids and enjoys childcare so I’m sure will have a fab time. She’s also wanting to do camp Canada, not sure what she’ll do next winter and spring but I’m sure something will come up.

@temperedolivewhat a worry. BUT it sounds as though your DD is sensible.
Can you see her blood sugars via an app so even if you’re not near her you could alert someone nearby if there’s an issue?

Only a month to A Level results now - we’re half way through the wait!

DD is having second thoughts about Exeter despite it being her goal for the last 2 years - she lives the course structure for History and the location of the campus. She’s spooked by the staff reductions and thinks it will limit the pick n mix style course selection - and the accommodation issue is still an issue as they can’t confirm she’ll get on campus allocation and she absolutely doesn’t want to live off campus.

stressing me out as it will mean going through clearing even if she gets her grades.

@temperedolive that must be really hard. It is hard enough letting them go and be independent without the added worry of a health condition that needs to be managed. Glad they got her sorted and I am sure they would do the same in her university city but as a mum you just want to be there to be sure.

Just need to talk this out:

I just got back from hospital with DC2 as her blood sugar was through the roof. It turned out there was some problem with the attachment of her insulin pump. She's ok now; they stabilized it and attached a new device. She's feeling shaky but we caught it in plenty of time and she's nowhere near DKA.

But it just made me think about how if this happens in halls, I'm not going to be there to take her to hospital. She's going to need to sort this out herself. And it's fine; she can. She's not the sort to neglect her diabetes; she knows the risks. It's just that I've been there for every diabetic crisis of the last nine years; we have our comfort routines around them. It's a very odd feeling knowing that I won't be able to help her with this in the same way moving forward.

DS is off too Istanbul tomorrow for 5 days. I’m very proud of him going alone - his friends just didn’t get organised so DS has decided to it as it’s the last full week he has without out pay or volunteering, he needs to do it!

@hels71 I see your DD is going to Rose Bruford. Congrats to her! My best friend’s son is there (actor muso) and is having the time of his life.

My DS spends most of his time in theatres. He’s currently in two separate shows so that’s a lot of rehearsals. When he’s not acting he’s singing, working, or down the pub!

Congrats to your DD, that’s brilliant!
I would get anxious when DD told me that she got a D in her Sport subject…thinking it was an A level “D” and not a Distinction. And don’t even go there with the IB grading 🤯

@Ventress , she just loves theatre! She's also props master for a show in our local theatre next week, then stage crew for a show 2 weeks later! Our family holiday is delayed for this!

DD was rather pleased yesterday to discover she had a distinction in grade 6 musical theatre singing. It's the first singing exam she has done too!

Although school has officially finished, my DC is one of the ones still going back for various concerts and performances so it doesn’t feel like it is quite over yet! And I can’t quite believe school is officially done for them either…

Lovely to hear about all the holidays. DS is also in Malta @Tebheagalthough I suspect at much more basic hotel with a large group of friends. From the little I’ve heard from him he seems to be having a great time. Malta looks lovely and I’m quite jealous.

He also managed to sneak in his last piano exam the day before he went away as he wanted to do it before hopefully going away in September. His teacher has just messaged to say he passed. He’ll be very happy as didn’t feel very well prepared as was naturally concentrating more on A Levels.

I do enjoy SM @hels71😊 missed both my youth theatre opportunities this year so far 🙁 I do hope your daughter had a good day!
