BTEC/T level/other vocational 25/26 - part 2

New thread for those of us with DC doing vocational courses (and for those with DC looking for an alternative to A levels next year and looking for advice).

My DC is currently doing a level 3 extended diploma. He struggled academically at school and was pretty miserable in year 11. With a lot of hard work he got the grades needed for the level 3 BTEC and is now thriving at college.

Well...first "proper" day back at college for dd tomorrow.
She's really looking forward to it, but also anxious.
She's finished the summer extension project.
It'll be half term before we know it! 😄

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 04/09/2026 22:36

@Raven08 so glad you got it sorted. That kind of thing is so infuriating and unfair. I would have been equally mad.

Woohoo she got a D for first year! I'm so proud and pleased for her. :)

She is enjoying being back at college, already working away at her first project for this year with deadline at the end of the month! Still trying to get my head around this being her final year and she will be turning 18 in a few months time!!

👏👏👏👏👏👏
Welk done to your dd 😄
My dd is 18 this month...where does the time go!? 💙

Brilliant!
But each time I read HofF, I am seeing "The Hoff" and assume DD met with Mr Baywatch David Hasselhoff.
No way he'd be on board with that sort of thing!

(What is HofF anyway - head of form? )

😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹😹!! If she had!!!! Would probably too shocked to continue the complaint and thus end up changing groups! 🤦‍♀️😹…

Raven08 · 03/09/2026 11:49

@LarkspurLane
Sorry! 🤣
It head of Faculty

LarkspurLane · 03/09/2026 11:16

Raven08 · 02/09/2026 15:48

My view exactly.
Dd met with HofF and was asked to "try it" for 2 weeks!
Nope.
So, I've spent the afternoon trying to speak to someone 🙄
Finally got a call back, and dd is back in the original group.
Sigh.
My blood pressure must be ↗️

Very outing if anyone knows me, but DS has just been elected class rep!
oooh, what does that mean? I asked.

Just means I'm better than everyone else ...... and off on his way!

👏👏👏👏👏

Sorry to hear that @Raven08

I kind of understand this sort of thing at primary school, even lower secondary, but near adults shouldn't be asked to sacrifice themselves in this way for others.
Helping others out, yes, but only if they want to!
This wouldn't happen in a workplace (or to a man) so it shouldn't happen at college.

(I used to be moved at school to sit between noisy kids cos I was quiet, it still annoys me!)

Oh, RIGHT?!!!! Absolutely!!! Imagine it being tried with a bloke!!!?! No. Just wouldn’t happen.

Reminds me of Yr 7, and out of going from a school of 45 to a school of 1450 ish, DS ended up in a class with his bully since Reception. Couldn’t make that up. She picked up where she had left off….. physical and mental abuse restarted. She “ couldn’t be moved as in the same bubble”!
🙀🤬…. Anyway. Oh! Reminds me! A friend of mine randomly overheard a guy talking to his mate in M&S foothall about how his children were doing … guy was from out of town, so was just repeating his mate, but was saying how his DS was having a “ really shit time because of an utter bullying 🧙 called “Ivy Witchface”.. who has form for it”!! It made me horribly relieved but so sad in equal measure. Relief that my upset over the years wasn’t all in my head ( when telling my friend), but so sad yet another lovely lad has been her victim! Hopefully he gets well away from her, too! Sorry!! Tangent!!!

Sorry you were put through that kind of policing nonsense at school! The positive, I guess, is that you had the respect of the teachers! 🧑‍🏫 🌟

Raven08 · 02/09/2026 16:02

So...
The staff member I spoke to had no idea why dd wasn't contacted re: move, nor why another student was moved back straight away, nor why she was told the other group needed her "to make it more social" 🤷‍♀️
I just said that I know that the move wasn't in any way malicious, but pointed out that, at 17, it made dd very confused/upset.
I'm really cross about the "try it for 2 weeks" ploy, too 😡

Sisublondie · 02/09/2026 15:53

No, this is NOT OK! AT ALL!!!!!

It’s should not fall into one individual to “ pull the others up”!!!! Taking the proverbial! Not ok!! ( my DS HATE my saying that!! “ Mum says “ it’s SO NOT OK”!!!!” Intonating me! Which just makes me say it even more! In context, of course!!

Keep us updated!! 🍀

It's sorted, @Sisublondie😊
Thank you for the righteous anger! It helps! 😁💙
Honestly, what a day! 😬
Aaannnd of course dh isn't here - he's away tonight with work

🙄🙀! I did the dreaded MN “ not RTFT!” Sorry! But, YAY!!

Thank God you put your foot down!! Did they begin to explain WTH their madness was?!! Was it to be with another similarly work shy lot?! Whatever! Thank God she’s staying out!!

But, all that stress and upset!!! For what purpose????!!!

I am SO SORRY you were put through that!!!! 🤬

Sisublondie · 02/09/2026 15:53

Raven08 · 02/09/2026 12:00

It's such a shame. Dd has always had this happen...from primary school. They put her with the naughty/difficult/lazy kids to "encourage" them 🙄
She did all the work for the group project earlier this year. She won't make that mistake again!

Yeah.
I'm really baffled and quite angry.
I sent an email in at 8am. Dd has gone in and I've suggested she ask for a meeting with head of Faculty. It's been handled/communicated very badly.

To say the least!!!

What exactly did they say to her? What was the set up? Groups within the course, working together? Which, clearly, she was settled with? Didn’t she have a bit of a problem with some work-shy individuals (!) last year? If so, where are they, now, in this random new set up that they have come up with?

Well done for getting on top of this straightaway for her. It’s so good for her to know you have her back 💯… ( of course!!!)… I’m keeping all crossed for a swift resolution here! x

@Raven08What The..?!? That is utterly brutal and I am not surprised she is gutted! Have they given her any opportunity to refuse?! Well done on the planning to write to them front… could you pop in a point blank refusal? Surely citing her “ basic mental health” being affected must be of utmost relevance?! Surely that should take priority over bloody “ helping socialise” Randoms?!! 🤷‍♀️🤔🤦‍♀️🤬?!

Oh, I’m so very sorry for you both!! I’d be fuming too!!

Let’s really hope 🤞 that the madness can be changed and reversed back .. ( because that other group sound nasty ass!) …

Oh, I was so hoping you were having a well deserved night out! x

The sky has gone quite dark here, so I've just grabbed the laundry from the line.
I didn't go for a walk in the end - I'll walk to the bar later 🍷😁

… high five for getting it done and on the line in the first place…. And then for spotting potential rain and moving it, too! 😸
