Loreto 6th form college Manchester - entry requirements

Does anyone have any experience of applying to Loreto and not being religious? My DD really wants to go there and so do all her friends. We live about 30min walk away so quite close but last year my DS did not get an offer despite having predicted grades that were at least the minimum entry requirements.
DD's friends are probably religious and I'd hate for her to not get in as she's been working so hard for her mocks and really wants to go this college. Seems so unfair.

Any experiences of applying for Loreto would be good. I actually know a lot of people in real life who do have kids in Loreto but I don't really want to probe as to whether they put down being religious or not as it seems too intrusive.

@DataColour DofE here too! Her current future career path will need those skills more than an epq.

You will find that more than 50% of their students are non-catholic. Catholic sixth forms are very good places for you g people, academically sound and very caring also.

DataColour · 03/09/2026 07:34

@Funkylights that's great your DD is all sorted now!
In the end DD ended up going in on her own, as she insisted she didn't want me to accompany her. She went with friends, which was fine and she's all signed up now to do her 3 a levels. She's also signed up to do dofe silver. Not sure whether this is the right choice yet or if an EPQ is better, but sign up for that is in Feb, so a bit of time to think about it. Has your DD signed up for anything extra?

@DataColour how did you find today? I was very impressed. DD all signed up and very happy

Funkylights · 01/09/2026 22:34

My DD is also neurodiverse and will be nervous so I’m going to make sure she doesn’t just end up confused. One of her other options that said no to three A levels now offered her a place today (not Xav) which came out of the blue

Funkylights · 01/09/2026 22:32

as far as I can see it’s a mixture. I’m going only because we need to explore if they’ll allow original choices, best options, questions re core maths and eng resit to get better grade. If it was simpler I’d leave her to it

BellaI · 01/09/2026 15:52

I didn’t go to the enrollment last year at Xav. 6th form is much more hands-off for parents.

postitnot · 01/09/2026 12:54

My older daughter has just finished her A levels at Loreto. The EPQ is very much offered but my daughter chose not to do it. They don't seem to encourage 4 A levels even for the 'high achievers'

I'm not going, she's going with a friend! Her slot is Thursday

DataColour · 01/09/2026 11:16

Is everyone going with their DCs to the face to face enrollment? I'm planning to go but I think DDs friends aren't taking their parents. I'm mainly wanting to go because I want to know what the "extras" are and what would be the best option for her. She doesn't want to do an EPQ, and I don't know what the sixth form will advice. In my son's sixth form they have to choose something extra, whether it is an EPQ, core maths, core PE or in special circumstances a 4th A level. I'm a bit clueless with Loreto.

Hope all goes well for everyone at enrolment this week.. roll on Weds and hoping to confirm everything

Funkylights · 29/08/2026 00:13

@CAM09 the Xav lady I spoke to today basically said they so over subscribed there are almost no places for anyone wanting to switch courses

I'm getting a bit worried for my DD now. She didn't enroll at her secondary school for 6th form and didn't go to her Xaverian interview yesterday as she is sure that she only wants to go to Loreto with her friends. I told her to enroll at her school just in case, but she didn't! She's met the criteria for Loreto and done the online enrollment so I'm hoping that's enough. Our face to face is on the 2nd Sept. Her chosen subjects are popular ones though, Maths and Chemistry. Physcis too, but I think that's less popular.

My daughter wants to swap to chem at Xav but was told it was full. (See thread lower down). I hope your dd gets into Loreto but I am now hopeful there will be a space for her on chem! I asked about a waiting list but they said there wasn't one but i will be emailing them ASAP!

Funkylights · 28/08/2026 16:20

@DataColour Psychology and a science and now maybe politics. Tbc. We’ll just have to see what her options are

DataColour · 28/08/2026 13:55

@Funkylights I called Loreto this morning. They said as long as she's hit the criteria for her subjects it should be fine but it'll be confirmed at the face to face enrollment. Ah, still keeping my fingers crossed. What subjects if your DD planning to do?

Funkylights · 28/08/2026 10:31

@DataColour it was Xav that told us her other options will be full. I’ll be phoning them today to confirm no point going on 1st then! All eggs in Loreto basket here too. You’ll be fine.. ours is a course swop so yes I’m very stressed on that too now

@BellaI we have now had an email warning us that courses might want to switch to are all full at this stage

Funkylights · 27/08/2026 17:46

We are now Xav on 1st and loreto the day after

ThisCraftyHam · 27/08/2026 16:16

Hi I have my enrolment on the 3rd, so I'm also hoping I get a place, I'll be going to my Xaverian appointment tmrw however , just as a backup

Funkylights · 25/08/2026 09:19

I’m not sure when DD friends are enrolling at Xav but this week. She had today appointment. We haven’t even been able to secure a new date and no reply to email. We had no idea it would be so hard.
We are on 2nd for Loreto

BellaI · 24/08/2026 18:19

I think they do the enrolment by school name and luckily ours was a B!

Funkylights · 24/08/2026 18:14

@BellaI that’s really poor. It might wipe it out as an option for us as we can’t enrol this week as out of the country. I’ve emailed re both grades and dates but no replies.

DataColour · 24/08/2026 16:42

My daughter has done the online enrolment for Loreto and her face to face enrolment is on the 2nd September. I'm hoping this means that she is getting a place there, as she didn't want to enrol at her current grammar school. A couple of her friends from the same school has the same enrolment date and time of day, so perhaps they are doing school by school? She's also got the enrolment letter for xaverian but doesn't want to go there, so it's all eggs in the basket for Loreto.

BellaI · 24/08/2026 13:39

Last year at Xav daughter was given an enrolment appointment at beginning of Sept. She met the entry criteria for the 3 A levels so got the courses. However some were told the option was full so it was better if you had been given an earlier date for enrolment. Seemed quite arbitrary and you found out later than most other places. She wasn’t in a feeder or a catholic. We are right in edge if south Greater Manchester.

Funkylights · 24/08/2026 10:34

Who’s going to Loreto in the end? Looks like DD will be now. Dropped a grade which is fine for Loreto but Xav are being really hard to communicate with so thinking we’ll write it off! @postitnot@DataColour
DD want a college not a school 6th form
