And a second offer this evening from Exeter which is his insurance choice.

@Ventress Warwick-not beautiful? It’s a lovely little city and there’s lots of old there. I do love the way he’s making his choices though. Mine has been far too practical-do I like the course and could I get away with living at home. Some of them he couldn’t live at home but he has picked his preferences based on distance 🤣.

No more offers for DS yet. Waiting on Durham and UCL. I’m also trying to extol the virtues of Warwick (as he has an offer there) but he seems totally averse to it purely because it’s not in a beautiful part of the country 🙄 very frustrating.

DD got an offer from her first choice today of 64 UCAS points. She is very excited! Hopefully she will now be much less grumpy! She worked out that an A* in maths and a merit in grade 6 musical theatre singing will do it!!

We've just come bavk from Framce, so DC2 could meet a family who offered her a gap year au pair position and see the accommodation they provide. The other DC and I went off on our own so she could negotiate things as a professional but on the last evening they invited us to join them for dinner and they seem like a lovely family. She was offered a similar position in Canada as well, but having met this family in person she's decided to go with them.

I was very impressed listening to her chatter in French with the three little boys and their parents and just conduct herself so graciously. Somehow, she really is grown up enough to live abroad without me for a year!

DD has had a couple more offers, contextual offer from Reading, which we weren’t expecting, we think it must be under disability as she declared dyslexia, we don’t live in an area that would be considered deprived. She also got an unconditional offer from Brighton, which I think is her preferred insurance place, she needs to go back and look at the course content I think. Just waiting for Liverpool and Southampton.

Thank god she’s home and on the road to recovery. Snuggling with the cat seems like a good way to help heal 😆.

@KellySeveride Congratulations to your DS on a great first offer, and thanks for asking after DD. She had to have surgery yesterday to remove the clot, but is now home and snuggling with the cat. She will be fine from here I think. Fortunately we’re not travelling for Christmas (hosting here) and even more fortunately mocks are in Feb rather than Jan!

Well despite the fact I have had this raging virus that is doing the rounds I do have some good news. DS has already had his first offer from Bristol so he’s pleased someone wants him 😃.

Glad to hear he's doing so well @Ventress , DS also has his mocks as soon as they're back in January.

DD still has this week at school, breaks up Friday. I think she may be heading towards tonsillitis again so thankfully we are almost at the end of term!

She (we) have had such a busy/stressy week I am not surprised she is run down tbh. Driving test, med interview and we have just returned from a weekend in London where she was asked to take part in some filming related to her tiktok study account (out of the blue fun opportunity). It has been a wonderful week for her, London was very pretty but my goodness so so busy. I expected it to be but Oxford Street was horrendous! Now I finally have time to finish my Christmas shopping, which I have barely started 😬.

With mocks starting early January I see this break as a revision heavy one but this is y13 after all 😂.

DS has this week at school then mocks directly they go back in January. His history NEA is due in on Friday. After the mocks he will do his English NEA (second part). We had parents evening this week which went very well- all teachers were happy with DS’s work and progress.

@JessyCarr your poor DD, I hope she’s home again very soon. You must all be exhausted and so worried.

DS still has another week to go before end of term but he’s exhausted. Everyone in the house is run down with colds and he’s got a really long day at work today (they added an extra shift he hadn’t agreed to!) so he’s not very happy today. He had a maths test yesterday and got 85% so he’s happy enough about that anyway but really frustrating to hear he’s still making mistakes that relate to not reading the question to the end and missing how they want the answer presented. 🤦‍♀️

Oh sorry lots are going through difficult times in the run up to Christmas, hope everyone gets well soon 🥰
We had this terms progess report yesterday, I have only skimmed it (may have been having a pre- Christmas cocktails afternoon) basically OK, could try harder, which is the story of DS life!

Ready for the holidays, only 4 1/2 days to go. He is full of the cold and exhausted. Not helped by constant 18th parties.

Another week to go here! DD has an offer of AAB for her second choice. She's had an interview for her first choice, but she thinks it went very badly. She's now on tenterhooks waiting to hear if she gets an offer ..... meanwhile busy ignoring schoolwork and taking part in the local pantomime!

@JessyCarr i’m so sorry to hear that dd is back in hospital. Hopefully she’ll be home soon and can recharge her batteries over the holidays.

Ds has got another full week and mocks the first week back so not a lot of downtime here!

Our two have finished term today as well. Purely theoretical for DD as she is back in hospital, but younger DS is tired and relieved to have a break.

Mine has finished too. His school used to be private (before he was born!) and somehow kept the long holidays. Not sure we would have made it another week 💤

He does have mocks second and third week back so no rest for the wicked but at least he can turn his alarms off for a while.

Last day of term here for DS. It's come at the right time as he has run out of steam and motivation. Luckily he has done his 1st set of mocks a couple of weeks ago so none immediately when he gets back.
His maths teacher is laying on a couple of revision sessions next week which is very kind of him so he has to go in for that.

But full on TMUA revision starts - can feel my nagging will have to ramp up next week.

Anyone else started the holidays today? (Not sure why my son's school has 3 weeks but not complaining!)

@KellySeveride i have found a great deal for ds starting next Tuesday - the first time he’ll really have chance to use the car. I tried putting in a date a bit further away but it only changed the quote by pennies. Not sure if the time of year has got anything to do with it?

Anyway, I’ve found him a policy costing £921 for 12 months fully comprehensive with me and DH as named drivers (that tried autocorrect to naked 🤣) with a black box which monitors his speed, braking and cornering. I thought it must be wrong so phoned them to confirm that it will cover him if he drives to school and work as well as his social bits and it does so I snapped it up! I thought they were going to say that they’d missed a 1 off the front of the other numbers! It’s with Hastings Direct.

Top tip for all the new drivers… if you set the insurance to start in a couple of weeks time then the price comes down significantly. It does mean they can’t drive for 2 weeks but the saving is worth it!
