Delighted to hear that. Which type of animals are her favourites? DD favours dogs and cats, small mammals and reptiles. Relatively less keen on paddock, zoo or birds.

DS also got better than he needed, he's enrolling on his photography diploma tomorrow. He's so pleased to not be going back to school for 6th form!

DD also got what she needed for her Level 3 in Animal Management! We were worried about her passing maths and needing to resit but she got the required 4. Her enrolment appointment is first thing tomorrow morning, can't wait!

Dd got great grades - far more than she needed - so she'll be enrolling on her btec next week 😊

Hi everyone, DD1 got what she needed for college. She’s enrolled on the level 3 extended BTEC in Sports and Exercise Science which is slightly different from what she originally said but I think it will be really good for her. Hope everyone else got what they needed.

My DS did two single BTECs and an A level and got D*DB after a very average set of GCSE grades. The way of working REALLY suited him although the lecturers did have to do some prompting to keep him organised I think. Two separate ones sometimes meant clashing deadlines. He went on to take a degree in one of the subjects which was structured very similarly, continual assessment in lots of different formats with only one proper exam so he was able to hit the ground running having worked that way for two years already.

Dd seems ok.
It's been a rough few months for her. I just hope she gets what she needs.

Hi everyone, how’s everyone feeling today? DD is quite calm considering and just said she’s trying not to think about it - I can imagine she might get more nervous as the evening goes on though. She’s just worried about Eng Language, so fingers crossed she gets a 5 or they let her do the btec whilst resitting it.

Dd is doing a 2 year btec diploma in an arts subject.
Its equivalent to 3 x A levels.
There is also an option for a 3rd year foundation degree course which would be funded.

DD has a conditional offer to study a T Level Health in Midwifery. We have been told they are the equivalent of 3 A Levels with the added bonus of placements for that extra experience.

Poor lamb, she is already wanting to open them in the car because ‘all her friends’ are saying they’re stressed but are going to get 8s and 9s. I think this might be a teenagers definition of ‘all’ her friends, but even so :(

(However, employers may not take the same view.)

I think either English subjects should count for every requirements.
My older dd got an 8 for lit and a 5 for lang. It was ok as she got the 5 but I thought it would have been such a waste of time and resources to make her redo it if she got a 4.
A 4 is a pass, so what's the issue??

@TheForgetfulCat That's such a good question! I always assumed either English counted. Otherwise why make them bother doing both.

@TeenToTwenties thank you for the reassurance about college. I’m not sure DD was well served by a mixed ability English class. In general I am in favour of mixed ability but I fear she felt like the stupid one at the back (she isn’t but she does have verbal processing issues and needs more time to sort out her ideas).
So some teaching very focused on the 3/4 border would probably do the trick in her case.

Just wondering if anyone knows for sure - does the legal result requirement for English apply to language or literature, or will either one do?
DDs FE colleague told me it had to be language but I’ve seen some threads on here suggesting that in fact either English will do and the Govt won’t fund resits if they get Literature.
Despite having slightly less grasp of English lit than I do of nuclear physics, I think it’s possible DD might scrape a 4 in that and not Language. Thanks to last minute cramming and what I understand was a fairly jammy Paper 1.

DD is halfway through a level 3 diploma in adventure education. She is an SEN kid with terrible school experience so really just needed a different environment.

She loves it - the assignments are relentless and instructions not always the clearest but she has got through it and done pretty well.

Work experience has been the hardest bit as DD has been unrealistically focused on trying to find paid work to meet criteria.

What we found with Eng Lang in college was they were very focused on getting over the 3/4 border. They stripped guidance back to only what was needed. Had DD been in the right frame of mind it might even have worked. Though they may not do the same exam board as your school...

Another one who’s DS did extended Btec in sport. I was worried he was specialising and narrowing his options. However, he has historically struggled at school, and this was something he was interested in. Two years later he has been accepted at a RG uni in a completely different subject. The Btec was the best fit for him, and he contacted the Uni’s he was interested in attending as soon as he realised what he wanted to do for guidance re admissions. Yes, the work is continuous, but it helped him ‘step up’ because he was interested in the subject. He too, was never the most organised and it took a few false starts at the beginning, but he got there.

I only ask because I no no-one with kids there and I feel quite isolated at times.

Not Sparsholt, we are further north but it’s a well thought of college locally and they have a lovely range of animals. Bit outing to name on here but if you know the world of FE land based colleges you can probably guess 😀
Really hoping she makes it to the T level for her own self belief, but the sodding English Language is on a knife edge. Grrrr.
