How much did John pay for lentils

I'm waiting to hear back from my tutor, for the meantime I would like to hear, how much is it for the canned lentils?

Did you write £6 in the lentil box? And does it mark each part of the question, or just the lentil part?

Ah, if you need to round it to the nearest £1 (why??) then it's £6. That would explain what the answer above posted by @Garlicwest is doing.

No, you have to go through the whole assessment and it'll tell you at the end if it's incorrect, when you know the price of the lentils you have to then round it to the nearest £1 to fill in the table next to it

Remember further education is 16+, this might include key mathematical skills for people who for whatever reason do not have GCSE Maths. Are you thinking about higher education (university etc)?

I would assume it is 7x87p because that makes more sense. Hope you pass the test and get onto the course.

If it's not 87 p per can and it's not 12.42857 p per can than it's not possible to answer the question because it doesn't tell you what the 87 p is for. If the course is a 'basic functional maths skills' course to help people budget and understand everyday life then they need to write the questions unambiguously.

In my experience online maths stuff regularly has wrong answers. If it isn't £6.09 it should ne!

Well, as a scientist... if one of my DC had written that table I'd be saying WAS IT 87P PER LENTIL THEN?!

Mind you I've been reminding them about units since they were tiny and it's in one ear out the other.

Also don't like the 'picked up' americanism but hey.

How annoying! So it's more of a reading comprehension test than arithmetic? Confused

As are most Numeracy questions, particularly at L2.

I assumed the same after my first answer was wrong but in the next question you're supposed to round it to the nearest £1 and it's still wrong, I just wanted to prove to myself I wasn't crazy, I have to do this assessment to start a course and u cost progress until I complete it. I know that this assessment is a little dodgy because I've seen multiple spelling mistakes throughout, I have to wait for my tutor to come off holiday

Not sure that this argument stands. Other items are priced as per kg - so why wouldn't lentils be priced per can?

It would irritate me that the money is in £ but the language is American. You could argue that he 'picked up' 7 but might have put 2 back. If it is in Sterling it should be 'bought' .

Also 87p for 7 'cans' is crazy cheap.

I know it's simple, got the same calculation as everyone under the thread, apparently that's wrong, I did try another way, apparthays wrong so I'm not sure what to do

No need to be mean, maths is really hard for some people for whatever reason. Just like reading or cardio or French or music is hard for others. I used a calculator!
