Thread 30 Covid Cohort, Mad March Hareing Towards Exams

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 13/03/2022 09:12

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

previous thread 29

I've made this one a little bit earlier as things are so busy, at home and on thread, so please feel free to use up previous thread first Grin

I asked him if he needed to pay a £250 deposit yet and he says no.

Oblomov22 · 04/04/2022 07:42

@Heifer Thank you for the heads up/link/advice. I've only just woken up/seen the links. I was asleep till now.
You were right Heifer. Nottingham accommodation opened at midnight. Ds completed his at 7.21am when he woke up.

Unbeknown to me he went for:

  1. Rutland
  2. Sherwood
  3. Riverside
  4. Raleigh

Completed at 7.21

He says he only chose 4 options. But that you can choose a maximum of 6.
And that you get notified within 4 wheels.

Congratulations to all others on success. It's only because we're a lovely bunch that we've had such success. We should all be proud. I am. Of us as a group I mean! ❤️

Just done our booking. I was thinking about trying after midnight but fell asleep! Fingers crossed everyone gets the accommodation they want!

singingstones · 04/04/2022 06:07

Thanks for the heads up, All done this end and worked fine at 0530 when I pinged awake for some reason!
DS wants self catered so went for Broadgate and Dagfa.

Somuchchoice · 04/04/2022 01:08

@Heifer
THANK YOU! This worked! You have just saved me a night's sleep!

mummyinbeds · 04/04/2022 01:05

Finally worked but couldn't upload a photo. DS can worry about that later. His choices were

Rutland - single
Rutland - single+
Sherwood - single

Fingers crossed for Rutland. Hope everyone else manages to get into the booking system.

Heifer · 04/04/2022 00:48

Someone on a different forum just said they went back to the link on the email and logged in that way and it's worked better?

Heifer · 04/04/2022 00:47

I had a problem at first because I tried it before midnight then when I went to go back after midnight it just hung so I started again tbh and when I tried to log back in again it was all fine - it was slow though but my wheel thing did keep spinning round so I knew it hadn't crashed - hope that makes sense

Somuchchoice · 04/04/2022 00:44

@Heifer Can I ask, when you clicked onto the portal, were you stuck on a page just with the text 'Accommodation' in the centre and with the tab at the top saying 'please wait'?

We've been here for a while now and wanted to make sure that it wasn't something wrong our end.

Thanks!

Heifer · 04/04/2022 00:40

at least if it's crashed for you it will also be down for everyone else trying... It was slow for me but did work.

mummyinbeds · 04/04/2022 00:26

Nottingham accommodation has crashed 😱

Heifer · 04/04/2022 00:22

@ChristopherTracy, @JustHereWithMyPopcorn, @mummyinbeds Nottingham accommodation is now open

Sorry if I've missed anyone.

Heifer · 04/04/2022 00:19

@crazycrofter, @Oblomov22 @singingstones
Accommodation is open

Heifer · 04/04/2022 00:16

Nottingham Accommodation is open!

I checked when I got back from Swindon and it opened at midnight!
DD finally agreed to go for 3 Rutland options (did want Crips but single was not option and I said no to paying for single plus and ensuite there, so she finally agreed to (in order)
Rutland - Single +
Rutland - Ensuite
Rutland - Single

Good luck everyone who need accommodation at Nottingham Uni

ealingwestmum · 03/04/2022 22:36

Apologies Eww, I didn’t answer the college question. Truth is, I have no idea what order she’ll place them in! Hoping to conclude early this week, but in all honesty I don’t think she’s that fussed as there’s no guarantees of getting ones placed higher?

mummabear74 · 03/04/2022 22:18

DD checked UCAS this afternoon and was able to confirm for Southampton with Cardiff as insurance. I'm just pleased the decision has been made! Just accommodation to do tomorrow. @OrangeCinnamonCroissant Wessex Lane and Glen Eyre are favourites at the moment for DD as we managed to see inside GE and outside Wessex. Good luck to your DD.

Cantonet · 03/04/2022 22:16

Got Ds to fill in his student finance form.
I'm glad i told him to do it with me downstairs, as it was fairly convoluted for a Ds with dyslexia.

22Newnames · 03/04/2022 21:57

@ChristopherTracy. Hope it’s not too bad for you. I am on day 14 and officially negative now but still feeling cold like effects and tired. I had a few days of needing to sleep but otherwise it has just been a very bad cold. I hope it is similar or milder for you. Just let your body rest when you need to. Take care.

Nard75 · 03/04/2022 21:11

Congratulations to everyone who has pushed the button it is all becoming so real now. DS still hasn't firmed yet but when he does will he get a confirmation email from UCAS or the university to say that he has chosen firm and insurance?

sazzy5 · 03/04/2022 20:58

@ChristopherTracy I hope it’s not too bad for you.
Mine have been off for a week, they’re off for ages. DS2 goes back for just over a week then is off on study leave. Scary how quickly it’s going.

Seeline · 03/04/2022 20:54

We broke up on Friday. Was trying to encourage the creation of a revision time table today but DD not keen. She gets very stressed if she cannot keep to a timetable eg if perhaps a topic takes longer than scheduled etc. I get very stressed without some sort of plan, so it's not going well 😆
I think we've agreed to spend some time on each subject on each day....
Also got driving theory just before Easter so need to do some work on that too.

HarrietDVane · 03/04/2022 20:39

We've got one more week of school before we break up. So ready for a break!

EwwSprouts · 03/04/2022 20:32

Mini 2nd mocks this week. One short paper per subject and no study leave.

Isthisjustnormal · 03/04/2022 20:14

Easter hols for schools here too: going to grab a few days away in devon the week before Easter but assuming it’s mostly a revision fest in our house.

ChristopherTracy · 03/04/2022 18:53

Checking in after a week away with work. I too now have Covid. Distinctly unimpressed.
