Thread 30 Covid Cohort, Mad March Hareing Towards Exams

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 13/03/2022 09:12

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

previous thread 29

I've made this one a little bit earlier as things are so busy, at home and on thread, so please feel free to use up previous thread first Grin

@NCTDN Yes! But he is doing IB, not A levels (sorry if that panicked you!). Results come out beginning of July so hopefully we'll have a lovely summer just stressing about the GCSE results for DD.

Oblomov22 · 06/04/2022 09:42

Good luck 22NewNames at Nottingham.
We arrived Gatwick super early and was through security in about 20 minutes!

cariadambyth · 06/04/2022 09:29

Thinking of you @singingstones. Are you going to your appointment on your own or are you allowed to take someone with you? Actually, even if you are technically on your own, you’re not really because you have all of us alongside you x

NCTDN · 06/04/2022 09:23

@Horace123 your ds will be finished by mid May?!

22Newnames · 06/04/2022 08:28

Thinking of you today @singingstones. Hope all goes ok.

We are off to the Nottingham offer holder day today. At the moment it could be the insurance choice but who knows if that will change after the visit.

Obvs still waiting on Bath 🙄

Horace123 · 06/04/2022 08:23

Congrats to everyone’s DC who have pushed the button - DS still hasn’t. Apparently he wants to speak to his tutor first so it will have to wait until next term.

Today is exactly one month to DS’s first exam (gulp). I dashed out yesterday to stock up on multivitamins and hay fever tablets. When I asked the pharmacist about whether to buy a supplement which “guaranteed to boost brain functionality” the reply was that he hoped we weren’t relying on pharmaceutical interventions alone and perhaps just focus on revision. Good advice I suppose.

Even though DS will be finished on 18 May DD’s GCSEs go on forever so I will be in the group of us on this thread with double stress over the next few months. Sigh.

Monkey2001 · 06/04/2022 07:47

Been off line moving MIL (@Fonty you were absolutely right!). Congratulations to Nottingham people on progress, so funny that summer of the threads DCs are likely to meet, may even be flatmates!

@singingstones best wishes for today, let us know how it goes. X

Isthisjustnormal · 06/04/2022 07:12

@singingstones - hope the appointment goes well and that the bath and wine allowed you a bit of space yesterday.

EwwSprouts · 05/04/2022 21:50

@singingstones Hope the unwinding is very relaxing. Fingers crossed for the morning.

@Oblomov22 Envious of your holiday.

@AnneOfCleavage Must be a relief for your DD to have that out of the way. There's a poignancy to these first 'lasts' they are now going through.

AnneOfCleavage · 05/04/2022 21:29

Wow you have a very full plate @singingstones. Will be thinking of you at the re-call appointment.

DD had her A level dance practical exams today so that's done and dusted. One of her dancers had Covid two weeks ago and was struggling with her breathing at the end poor love. DD also performed her dances in the school spring concert tonight and is now on the sofa exhausted and coughing from the exertion.

School finishes on Friday and it can't come soon enough.

ealingwestmum · 05/04/2022 21:19

Fingers crossed you avoid any airport chaos Oblomov! Enjoy.

Heifer · 05/04/2022 21:11

@singingstones - enjoy the wine and hopefully nice long warm bath and relax. Good luck for your appt tomorrow.

@Oblomov22 fingers crossed for your flight tomorrow - can't deny I'm jealous at the thought of some sun and a holiday generally :-) Hope you have a lovely time.

cariadambyth · 05/04/2022 20:48

Oh @singingstones, you have so much going on, I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 05/04/2022 20:48

Oh Singing, your post made my head spin. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Oblomov22 · 05/04/2022 19:46

Poor you Singing. Hope you enjoy that bath 🛀 and wine 🍷.

We are all packed. Hope they don't cancel our flight ✈️ to Majorca tomorrow.

crazycrofter · 05/04/2022 19:41

All the best for the appointment tomorrow @singingstones and the exam. Don’t worry about Broadgate - my friend’s daughter was there and really enjoyed it.

Fonty · 05/04/2022 19:33

Oh goodness singing, you have an awful lot on your shoulders. Have you got any leave over Easter at all? Hope tomorrow goes well, but a nice large glass of🍷 tonight is a start.

ChristopherTracy · 05/04/2022 19:30

@singingstones sending strength. Looks like a lot of our DCs might end up at Broadgate!

sazzy5 · 05/04/2022 19:24

@singingstones gosh you have a lot going on. I’m just about holding it together with my job and 2 DS studying. It’s tough times I think. I may be an alcoholic by the end of June.

Wheresthebeach · 05/04/2022 19:02

Wine it is @singingstones. Hope the appointment goes well. Sounds like you've a lot on your plate, as my Mother use to say.

Nard75 · 05/04/2022 18:56

@singingstones hope your appointment goes well tomorrow.

Cantonet · 05/04/2022 18:43

God @singingstones you've got more than enough on your plate. Good luck🤞 for the appointment tomorrow and you definitely deserve the 🍷 tonight.
Your poor DH and DC's though.

singingstones · 05/04/2022 18:34

Study leave starts after half term for us, 6 June, by which time DS will have done 1 exam and poor DD (Y11) will have done 8. She also has 6 in the first week, it's brutal. If they feel it's best not to go in once exams have started, that's fine by me.

Having asked me to do his accommodation application and told me what to put (Broadgate first choice against my advice that Dagfa looked nicer), DS has now consulted his friends who have also firmed Nottingham and wants to change things because they want to be near each other. The friends don't want Broadgate because 5 sharing a bathroom is too many, apparently. So I suggested swapping to Dagfa but it's all booked up. They have come up with the idea of Deakins, which is the wrong side of Jubilee campus (they are all based on UP) and cheapest available room is £7875. So Broadgate Park it is. I'm afraid I couldn't resist pointing out that they could have had Dagfa if he had sorted out their plans when I asked him to. The friends haven't even got their log ins yet. A useful lesson that sometimes engaging with boring admin is worth doing. Infuriating though, because I TOLD him to talk to them about it ages ago, I TOLD him that things get booked up quickly and I TOLD him that Dagfa is nicer than Broadgate Park. Aaaargh.

Just back from 3 weeks away with work (with the odd brief stop over at home) and everywhere is a tip, there's no food etc etc. DH has been ill tbf, I had to dash back from Glasgow when he was admitted to hospital for a couple of days. DD has 9 additional maths past papers she wants me to do with her. Ddog needs a proper walk. Work is still manic. I have 4 weeks of OU study to catch up on before an online exam next week. And I have been called back for further tests tomorrow morning at 0815 after a routine mammogram a couple of weeks ago Confused

So I am in the bath and will be opening some wine shortly.

Cantonet · 05/04/2022 16:42

@icanbe Ds did his finance form on Sunday & his DSA yesterday. He was away at school before, so this was the earliest we could do. He definitely needed help answering the questions but did the DSA by himself. That took him 3 hours for some reason, as DH was having a meeting in the room with the scanner so Ds did it the old fashioned way with a printer/camera & an ancient computer 🤦🏼‍♀️.

@crazycrofter I haven't looked at any other school for ds2. I'm not sure what's happening with his current and he's still recovering. So much so that he can't seem to plan ahead yet.
