Thread 25 - Covid Cohort - Christmas Trees, No Omicron Please!

Volterra I was at the theatre in the week and sneaking chocolate eclairs to eat under my mask. Got really thirsty because of them which made me start coughing and I was so embarrassed as I literally was choking coughing for a good minute and a half. DD was so embarrassed.

Volterra sorry to say that my LFT didn't show up when I had sore throat and cold-y symptoms and a PCR did. I was LFTing every day as was so sure I had it and I did. LFT only turned positive when it was blindingly obvious I had it.
Hope it is just a cold though as there is obviously normal colds going around. 🤞🤞

It’s horrible coughing in public. I carry cough sweets permanently these days in case I start with a coughing fit which I sometimes randomly get. Hope you feel better very soon Piccolo and anyone else feeling rough 💐

Delphi I could only have dreamed of being so confident at15 as your DD. Learned it much later and hope I've passed on to DD some of it as she is more assertive than me although can also be a walkover when put under pressure example being she said yes to paying a good amount of money to an older student selling her A level notes but has no intention of using them but didn't want to let her down as she had asked her first - grrr. I'm stuck with boxes and boxes of notes, flash cards etc for two subjects cluttering up my tiny dining room.

We are in a dilemma as DD wants her boyfriend to come and stay when he was meant to after Christmas til New Year but he's in Scotland, we are in England and I'm so nervous of him not being able to get home and she has Uni interviews to prepare for and every day we put it off his train ticket goes up as he hasn't booked it yet. Arrghh. He's not even single jabbed so I'm pretty nervous as we live in a busy town and him an isolated place. We are waiting for the impending announcement of tightened rules.

We’ve got/had a horrible cold/cough with negative LFT/PCR too.
Seemingly, there’s a nasty non-Covid one doing the rounds.
I’ve felt really rough with it and embarrassed to go out today, because I can’t stop coughing once I start.

3 of us have had a non-Covid cough/cold in the last couple of weeks @Volterra (all pcr and lft negative).

Nothing like a scary sibling to get them sorted 😂

Is there a sore throat and feeling rough thing doing the rounds? Friend who was here a couple of days ago has take a PCR as feeling rough, LTF is negative. Odds are she has something else aren't they with a negative LTF?

Haha @Delphigirl I often think it is fascinating to look at Siblings and how different they are in spite of similar upbringing. What does she want to do?

DS’s highly competent and frankly scary 15yo sister has taken DS off for interview prep for his Southampton interview, his personal statement in hand… she looks like she means business. I expect the real thing will be a doddle after this 😁

The D of E letter says to make sure risk assessments etc are up to date. I assume sensible heads are putting things into place. I did tell my colleagues to make sure they took their laptops home!

Piggy Friend is a headteacher and she said missive from Dept of Ed. She's no drama llama.

Talking to a teacher last night & they had official guidance to take stuff home at the end of term, first time they've had advance warning...

We didn't... mind you , my school is very much fingers in ears. But there has definitely not been any official guidance from anywhere.

Not sure whether we will go and see DH's mum on Tuesday We usually meet in the Cotswolds in a pub but she's not keen and suggested a Starbucks. Ermmmm.... no Covid in Starbucks??
Her DH has leukaemia so probably best to stay away from people but they are quite easily offended.

Meanwhile, my spleenless DF is in bed with 'the worst cold he has ever had' (he has lots of 'worst colds') and stepmum tell DS1 they've done one lateral flow. FFS. I despair. I already explained to her once that you are supposed to get a PCR for symptoms!

We were out last night with friends and DS went to the 6th form winter social. Given DS has been with all the same people in school this week and DH and I are both working at our places of work it didn't seem like an increased risk. What was really interesting was where we went was full (about 400 people) and we were in the youngest 10%. On that basis I'm not sure any lockdown will stick. We live in a conservative and Conservative area.

I'm just post a fairly late menopause. No anxiety but like @Kingscote running out of patience with fools!

What two week covid breaker rules? 😓

I'm feeling covid fed up today. I was supposed to be going to out friends for cocktails and tart. My mum phoned last night to say they've decided it was best to not come for lunch over the Christmas period. Which she wouldn't be able to do anyway if the 2 week covid breaker rules whispers are actually announced tomorrow, which Dh thinks is too little, too late. And he thinks it won't be just 2 weeks, once it starts they'll have to keep it going. I fear schools won't open in Jan, I think it'll be on line.

How miserable.

@Heifer love the sound of the dinner party. Also love to hear that I am not the only person who has let the house turn into a tip in recent years! We were always a bit untidy and I was nervous about joining a school babysitting circle but was VERY happy when I babysat for someone with a house even messier than mine!

Have you worked out how to label your dishes on Monday? Flags for type or coloured serviettes or full disclosure of ingredients?!

I am a newbie compared to most of you. I joined Mumsnet to see messages but didn’t really participate until joining this thread when waiting for GCSE results.

@Wheresthebeach dd had an email from Southampton about offer holders days - the email title suggested it was just about virtual ones but when she clicked to book there were in person ones available too. She’s booked for mid Feb.
