Thread 25 - Covid Cohort - Christmas Trees, No Omicron Please!

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to posts about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this goodwill continues.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided, for anyone interested, they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Yes, Bath was one of them. And Sheffield who have sent an offer.

I knew Bath might be quite late so just tapping feet (im)patiently.

Meanwhile , offer holder days booked at York and Birmingham. Anyone heard of any at Sheffield?

crazycrofter · 21/12/2021 10:23

@Piggyinblankets

So many offers!

Weld done all.

No new news form us. Still waiting for Bath.

Booked theory test yesterday.

Waiting for Bath here too!

Has your ds added his final two choices yet?

DoggerelBank · 21/12/2021 10:10

So much good news! Congratulations, everyone. May you all have a fun-filled and Covid-free next few days and weeks.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 21/12/2021 10:09

Some fabulous offers coming in!
whoamitojudge, it’s so lovely to hear how brilliantly your DD is doing - definitely living her best life!

No uni news here, much to DD’s frustration. However, DH made it back from Dubai safe and sound last night, so we’re happy Smile

ChristopherTracy · 21/12/2021 10:01

Yay - well done all!

Been away from the thread for a few days and it’s moved quickly.

Congrats on all the latest offers!

Volterra · 21/12/2021 08:17

Congratulations on all the offers !!! Fingers crossed that chances are low Crazycrofter. Another of DD’s housemates has had a positive lateral flow so that’s 4 of them now from their group of friends , 2 in DD’s house, One of their friend’s had unfortunately chosen last weekend to visit, his Mum has cancer. Really hope he doesn’t get it,

BlueMarigold · 21/12/2021 06:31

Congratulations @Zebracat!

Is Birmingham the top choice? DDs offer was AAA but AAB if firmed.

Zebracat · 20/12/2021 22:58

We got an offer too, from Birmingham for Anthropology and History.

crazycrofter · 20/12/2021 22:26

After saying she was wondering when it was coming, dd got an offer from Nottingham earlier! She’s currently at a big 18th birthday party at a hotel in the city centre - what are the chances she picks up covid? Hmm

Well done on all the offers received and to your dd @whoamitojudge

icanbewhatiwant · 20/12/2021 22:17

Congrats on all the offers. I can't keep up with them all. Ds has only had the Sussex offer so far. But as that's the only one he wants, he's happy. But would be great to have more.

We've just booked our summer holiday next august, near St Austell (just 3 of us, I'm assuming ds1 and ds2 aren't coming) I wonder what the covid situation will be like by then. Seems weird that by then, hopefully ds2 will be preparing for university and ds1 will have moved back home from university after finishing his degree.

She’s nearly finished, got her last big exam on Wednesday so if all goes well her first flight will be on 4th Jan[/quote]
Wow that's amazing - you must be so proud of her, she has obviously "flown" through her training!
Good luck for the last exam on Weds and for starting her career Smile

Monkey2001 · 20/12/2021 21:46

Congratulations, can't keep up with all these offers!

How exciting @whoamitojudge, will she have a zero hours contract or contracted hours? I am wondering how many short haul flights there will be in Jan, things can only get better for her after a potential lock down start!

whoamitojudge · 20/12/2021 21:40

@Isthisjustnormal She’s got 4 days off! I’m really looking forward to having her home

@Wheresthebeach we did the skating at NHM in 2019 and loved it !! I know the museum itself has closed due to covid outbreak but the skating is separate.

If you are travelling on the tube in London try and wear the FFP3 masks over a blue and white or cloth mask. Many people still not wearing masks so FFP3 masks have helped me avoid covid on my commute.

Fruitygal · 20/12/2021 20:23

@BlueMarigold congratulations!!! There you go 5 offers and all before Christmas!!! Go and relax and start booking offer days!!

Hi all !! Hope you are all ducking and diving to avoid covid and get a nice Christmas.

Good Friends got to Chamonix by car for the skiing after a change of plan originally going car and big kids via plane but decided middle of last week it was looking iffy and decided to shoehorn them in to the car. Thank god for Nintendo switches !! Was the text I just received. The snow looks amazing and they’ve had such a hard year so pleased they got there.

Sorry crazy here with work, the 3DCs and extended family with plans changing daily so only just started to read posts from 3 days!

singingstones · 20/12/2021 19:32

Trying to imagine DS's face if I announced I was going to start studying at the same university as him 😂

EwwSprouts · 20/12/2021 19:31

That's a shame Zebra. Lots of people coming to the same conclusion.

Can't go to Sheffield in case DS ends up there. He would be most disgruntled.

EwwSprouts · 20/12/2021 19:25

Love it Horace! There must be more mileage with that.

Zebracat · 20/12/2021 18:41

Lovely to hear of the offers. Not sure I fancy Bournemouth or Winchester. Anyone else up for Landscape Architecture at Sheffield?
Just cancelled my 1 Christmas social evening. I have a pregnant Dd coming here for Boxing Day don’t want to risk catching COVID.

ProggyMat · 20/12/2021 18:20

Yay! @Horace123 Grin
Keeping my fingers crossed that they stay ‘in sync’ for the next one!!!
@BlueMarigold well done to your DD! Has she any idea of which ones will be her firm and insurance as yet?

Oblomov21 · 20/12/2021 18:01

Marigold, I think you're our first 5-offer-'ers.
