Crikey, didn’t realise how many people have clearly had a very emotional day.

I read the thread title and had also read a lot of news articles today about how this year the rates of high grades have risen exponentially. There are more As and A*s then ever before, and by an exceedingly long way. Therefore I don’t consider the suggestion that it was easier to get an A then ever before a particularly offensive one - rather, it is factual. Hence my comment.

That said I’m sorry to the many who have clearly been offended by the phraseology.

@AnimalCrossingNewHorizons They can’t refuse to consider appeals based on what grades students got. You should question that.
There are two stages of appeal… at the first stage the school carry out a clerical check. If the clerical check results in the school saying that they don’t believe that they made an error then the candidate has the choice to pursue a stage 2 appeal. At stage 2 the appeal is carried out by the exam board, who review the evidence. They can change the grade if they feel that either the school did not follow its own policy in awarding the grade or that it does not represent a reasonable exercise of professional judgement. This isn’t a re-mark, so a grade won’t change just because the reviewer might have given the student a different grade. They have to decide that the grade given was not a reasonable interpretation of the evidence, which is a high bar. At both stages grades can go down as well as up. I think it’s unlikely that many grades will change on appeal but schools should not be refusing to carry them out.

Dds school has said that contesting the grade will highlight admin errors only - ie the actual grade given isn't up for discussion unless it's an admin mistake

Posted too soon, the university she spoke to said that if she had gotten an ABB, they’d have still accepted her so that’s why she’d like to only contest the C grade only.

One of my siblings got her results today. Apparently she was predicted AAB in her first year of college. She got ABC and all the universities she applied to aren’t participating in Clearing.

In her second year of college, she had a different teacher and this teacher was the one who marked her coursework as a B when the previous teacher in her first year marked it as an A. Getting a B in coursework meant that she ended up getting a C instead of her predicted overall B. Is there a way she contest this? She said her college are only letting students less than C contest grades but students with As, Bs and even Cs aren’t allowed to contest it. Is that arguably allowed? Just curious.

I hope to see more news footage on Thursday of gcse student opening their envelopes and being really happy.

What a day, I'm exhausted so many ups and downs on here. We should be very proud of our young people, whatever their grades. They rock.

I don't think grade inflation matters atm - it's been such a shit couple of years with no consistency of experience or teaching - nothing was ever going to be fair - not that it ever was! As an internal recruiter we don't look at A level results if they have a degree, we are interested in the recent.

It's like people cannot stand some people to have good news. It also makes me worry for the poor kids who have not got what they hoped for. It must make them feel awful if they are being fed the line that all grades have been inflated.

@user1471428785 what is she planning to study? Apparently some departments are better at communication than others.

agree @Viciouslybashed especially as @EmbarrassingMama has nursery aged children so hasn't a fucking clue what our young people have been through in the last 18 months. Maybe she can come back in 15 years and we can bash her kids.

@LIZS. Thank you so much for replying and letting me know what to expect. Shocking that your dd was refused being able to defer until the last minute! I’m glad she’s now settled and made some good friends to share with next year. Hoping my dd will settle though she is v anxious
