Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!

Morning @Artdecolover and all

DD has said she will get up just before 8 check track and see if she has a place at her first or second choice uni (UCL or Queen Mary) Then she'll go into school to get her grades.

Wishing all your DC the best results possible for their futures.

It is too early for Gin?!

Artdecolover · 10/08/2021 06:06

Morning all....

StealthRoast · 10/08/2021 05:46

So after appearing not a bit arsed last night, ds has asked me to get him up at 8. He’s now saying he will see what his results are before deciding what to do over gap year etc but I think his mind is made up already and he hasn’t even applied for accommodation etc.
I don’t sleep at the best of times ( chronic insomnia ) and all I have in my head are variations of what I think he will get on a constant loop! It goes BBB/BBC/BCC and then maybe switch a B for an A or even a D, I’m going crazy here.....

Curledupdog · 10/08/2021 05:44

Been awake for 3 hours. Have twins so it’s been a pretty intense few days. Both have decided not to go through clearing - if results are unexpected they will take a year out. Good luck to all your dcs!

pistachioicecream · 10/08/2021 05:40

Torturing myself looking through the lack of clearing options too. Can’t even get up for coffee yet as I’ll wake the dog! 😬

Longtimenewsee · 10/08/2021 05:16

@MrsJackWhicher .. that sounds fab! Bless you for laying awake too! Grin

Longtimenewsee · 10/08/2021 05:13

Another who can’t sleep.
That script for speaking to unis about clearing places sounds really good. However, I just had a look in clearing and there really isn’t much in DD’s subject al all!. Confused . Do more get released today?.. that can’t be it ..surely?! Otherwise there will be an almighty scramble
Also , None of the places she originally applied to have got places in clearing for her subject (including her firm and insurance) which I’m taking as meaning that they probably also won’t be taking her if her grades are a bit off.

MrsJackWhicher · 10/08/2021 04:56

I am a teacher with. 6th form tutor group so going in the morning to help candidates who have missed their grades with clearing and/or those who’ve achieved higher with adjustment.
We’ve all been allocated specific pupils by the Head of 6th Form, tho’ I eon’t kniw till I get there st 7.30 who/what they are.
Have been through this the other side eith my own DC recently so am in total sympathy here (hence why have been awake since 4am…
Good luck to all -looking fireard yo updates later xxx

MrsJackWhicher · 10/08/2021 04:33

@Dragonfly101

I asked DS if he was going to sleep okay tonight or worry all night. He replied why would he struggle to sleep? 'Because of tomorrow'. 'What's tomorrow? Oh I forgot' (!!!!!!!!!!WHAT!!!!!!!!) 'Also if I'm sleep tomorrow at 8:30 don't wake me and I'm not going into school I'll wait for the email! '
Just love ‘em!!!!! Grin
Blueskythinking123 · 10/08/2021 04:26

@ablutiions another struggling to sleep. Just want tomorrow morning over now.

ablutiions · 10/08/2021 03:00

I'm awake, reading. stuff. And it's making me more stressed.

A level re-sits will be on full curriculum, even though DFE knows that NO-ONE learned the full bloody curriculum. FFS

We've had no communication from DS school about results day (well parents haven't) . That's a bit poor isn't it?

@whatisthisinhere down- post referred to a script for clearing that their school had shared. Is it shareable on here please? Sounds like it will be very helpful. Grin

I'm kicking myself that we didn't encourage DS to hold off on his trip for a couple of days, but he'd booked it before he told us, so..... just hoping that his GF can help and that his phone doesn't play up. I'm going to try and get him to patch me into clearing calls -or is that too overbearing parenting?

He needs BCC to get his firm, but we have no idea as to whether he will get it. Going from UUU to BCC in 7 months is a huge ask and TBH I'm not at all confident he will be anywhere near what he needs.

So, onwards to tomorrow where we pile onto this thread and blurt out our relieved successes, or panicked 'what the hell do we do now? Questions.

Glad I've got you lot to lean on. Now off to watch some trash telly to try and clear my mind. Sleep ? Ha! Who need it? Confused

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 10/08/2021 00:24

Ds went to bed about an hour ago. He asked me to drive him to school for 8.30am . He said " please be ready or I'll have to claw out my eyes" so not as cool as he's making out.

I feel so nervous and churned up He has worked his socks off and really deserves to do well.

Well said @MrsAvocet, there is always another way. Hope everyone gets what they need. Please update here

MrsAvocet · 09/08/2021 23:44

Not a lot of sleep going on here, though everyone is in bed.
By way of reassurance (mainly for myself!) my DH is living proof that not getting A level grades isn't the end of the world. To cut a long story short, after a great set of O levels he messed around in 6th form and crashed and burned spectacularly. He resat the year and improved but still didn't quite get what he needed for his preferred course but got in at a less prestigous establishment but on a similar course. It turned out to suit him down to the ground, and included an industrial placement who offered him a job once he graduated. He's now an internationally recognised expert in his field and nobody cares that he failed his A levels and didn't go to Oxbridge or an RG University.
Whatever happens to any of our young people tomorrow it is a beginning, not the end.
Sleep well everyone and good luck tomorrow.

whatisthisinhere · 09/08/2021 23:15

@Iimaginethiswillbefun

I hope so it’s been a rough couple of years for him. He was involved in an accident and lost the sight in one eye. So you know what in the bigger scheme of things it’s not important but he needs a boost.
Oh gosh, I hope he gets his grades. That's a lot he's been through, what an amazing young man you have!
Artdecolover · 09/08/2021 23:14

Night night all
See you probably far too early tomorrow
Xx

whatisthisinhere · 09/08/2021 23:13

I need to stop looking it up

whatisthisinhere · 09/08/2021 23:13

Ds's insurance has no clearing or adjustment places for this year Confused

beigebrownblue · 09/08/2021 23:11

Have you go space for me?
We are waiting for GCSE results Thursday and everyone is so stressed its unreal.

Good luck to parents A levels and students.

Artdecolover · 09/08/2021 23:08

All subject dependant too

clary · 09/08/2021 23:05

@Iimaginethiswillbefun

Lordy my DS seems to be batting a little lower than everyone else’s. He has to get CCC and I’m a nervous wreck. Still not confident he will get that Confused
Nothing wrong with that. Some people are a bit disparaging about any uni that's not Durham or Oxford. Loughborough is a target for ds, then for someone else it's a mere insurance. For another it's a uni that didn't give them an offer. Different strokes for different folks. Is he likely to get CCC?
whatisthisinhere · 09/08/2021 23:04

My ds needs A star A starA for his firm, and then one grade lower for his insurance. I don't thin' he'll get it, but he seems very confident.

I'm preparing for tears and panic tomorrow. He written out his clearing plan, stored phone numbers on his phone. I'm just hoping he can stay level, he has ASD and MH issues.
I can not sleep. My mind is churning with everything that can go wrong
