A level results day 2021 support thread

Spoke too soon. DF has just been on the phone. I said “you do this every year, we don’t have the results yet”

I'm pottering and putting a load of washing on.
Off to wake up ds...

Hi everyone, thinking about all those waiting for their results to drop in at 8:30am. It's been a tortuous journey to get here. DS1 caught up in the algorithm nightmare based on awful mocks but no chance to turn it around for the actual exams (not sure he would have fared better if he did the exams actually) and then followed by one retake in October from self-teaching/study and achieved a result. Decided not to two retakes in October '20 because of workload but then A levels exams in 2021 cancelled but now out-on-a-limb as a teacherless external candidate - argh!

In short, his result today will be his access to first choice (out of his offers) uni but he does have an unconditional to fall back on. So whatever happens today - he'll be off and he's desperate!!!

Just woke DS up with a cup of tea to be told his results are coming at 8.30 not 8! I have a letter from school saying 8 - Not helping! He doesn’t have them yet so they must have changed arrangements and not told parents.

His insurance is Bath, and a little part of me has been thinking that he might actually enjoy Bath more 😀 He's just gone up to school now, for the rest of his results...

Went to insurance instead. Probably did just as well in life! Good luck to your ds whatever happens - if he is bright and switched on enough to get the offer, he's bright enough to have a bright future! All the best

I’m a single parent, I did ask ds if his dad has been in touch yet. His reply was ‘if it doesn’t involve him he isn’t interested’ so feeling a bit more parental than that.

Just dipping in as I have a DS getting AS results today, nowhere near the stress of A levels so I feel for you!

To answer a couple of questions, results are embargoed until 0830 (might be 0800 in Scotland) so that's the earliest that schools should be communicating. Track will go live at 0830 for everyone.

Re places in clearing - I guess some spaces will open up if people change their mind about their firm or insurance and release themselves into clearing. I don't think that can happen until this afternoon so for now this is what's available I think. The unis know already who's made their offers - there may also be a few insurance places held because someone's firm hasn't decided what to do with them.

I know it sounds absolutely obvious but .... have the UCAS personal ID to hand, together with the UCAS codes for the the course(s) of interest. Just saying 'English' can cover a multitude of courses so it's helpful to us to have the exact code. Also year in industry options: sometimes these have their own UCAS code (but not always).

Assuming that most universities operate the same way as we do, we'll run through a few questions on screen filling in all the info we need as we go. This includes A level subjects and grades, English Language quals (if an overseas student where this applies) and fee status (home or overseas).

We can see A level results in UCAS for ourselves, but we double check these with the student.

Again, sounds obvious but ... we can only speak with the student themselves, and not with the parent/teacher on their behalf unless the student has given us previous express written permission.

As far as maximising chances is concerned, take some time this morning to look at the opportunities out there. Whatever the media might say, you don't need to be on the phone at 8.30am sharp - there's time to get a battle plan sorted if need be.

Read the requirements thoroughly. For example, for our courses (I'm in a department) we need an A level in Maths at grade B or above and it's listed on our requirements. If a caller doesn't have this, then we just can't go any further. If it's listed as essential, then it's just that. Best to move on and find courses that suit the grades and subjects in hand.

Had a text from my sister wishing DS3 luck - surprised my dad didn’t phone yesterday accusing me of not telling him the results, like he does every year!

The clearing script is just how to make the phone call. So to be polite, and say "good morning my name is xxxxx, I am interested in this course, these are my grades. etc." Then to treat the call like an interview, and to have your results at hand, as well as your ucas number. Make a note of the university, course and grade requirements, and deadline! And to to take time deciding.
It's mainly because my ds has autism, can have anxiety attacks which leave him mute . So this will help him to cope. But I think it would help all students really. Anxiety can affect all young people, especially in this high stress situation

8am this morning - just checked again and deleted the tweet. Think they realised their mistake with the time

Ds got the email. I’ve trawled through and nothing.

DD's college aren't making results available until 9.30! And they have a whole new portal system as well, so she's not even sure she can login in successfully etc.

Just waiting for her to wake up and check track ... Although UCAS say this year it will be 8.30? I'm sure that's later than previous years.
