Hi 👋
I thought it might be nice to have a support thread for us parents? (Can't see one in further Ed yet??)
It's been such a difficult time for our kids - and for us! - but the end is in sight!
Ds will get an e mail at 8.30am (apparently) and can go into college in person if he needs help/advice.
Good luck everyone!

DS got A*AB and is off to York.

stoneysongs · 10/08/2021 09:54

@MMMMMaria

Track says didn’t meet conditional offer for insurance option. Firm option isn’t updated, how can we check if there is an offer for the firm choice? No email from Uni.

All this tells you for sure is that DC is not going to their insurance. Phone the firm - either they are still deciding whether to let them in (waiting to see if anyone better comes along through clearing or adjustment), or they have decided one way or another and have forgotten to tell UCAS.

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 09:51

I'm relieved it's the last one (of 3!) DS2 moving into his next uni house on Friday, mum and dad going with him to help clean old house Hmm

ablutiions · 10/08/2021 09:50

Poor DS - still no track update but he knows that his firm have not accepted him (he called them) so he's having to phone UCAS to do it all manually so he can accept his insurance. What a shit show.

And the accom portal for his insurance has just crashed too.

I despair.

LIZS · 10/08/2021 09:50

It is unusual fir uni to review a grade miss automatically having already rejected a student on UCAS. They get grades days in advance so normally meet before then, but maybe other accepted students released places so they offered previous candidates rather than go to Clearing.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/08/2021 09:49

@NotSorry oh, that makes sense!

frugalkitty · 10/08/2021 09:49

Loughborough is confirmed so we have a very happy and relieved DS! Accommodation slot booked tomorrow so hopefully he'll get one of his choices and I can turn my attention to DD and her gcse results on Thursday.

For those who have missed out, hang in there, things often work out better in the long run.

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 09:48

@EmmaGrundyForPM

the insurance would have rejected him because the firm had confirmed place - it's just administration really

LIZS · 10/08/2021 09:47

@crossstitchingnana

What are your children logging onto? UCAS? My dd never heard from them after applying in Jan. I suspect the application process was never completed.
She woukd have had a login and student number from inputting her application. Did she receive offers and firm/insure them for the deadline in May/June.
EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/08/2021 09:46

@LIZS

Insurance will only consider a student after Firm has rejected. If a narrow miss it might be worth a call or see if a related course at same uni is in Clearing, or subjectwith a foundation year.
has that changed recently? Ds missed his offer by one grade (Got AAB not AAA) a couple of years ago, got email from his insurance saying no place but then got email from his 1st choice offering him a place.
NotSorry · 10/08/2021 09:39

@crossstitchingnana

After applying she should have got offers from the universities she was interested in.

Some students have to log on to get their A level results, we had to go in to collect ours. DS received an email from UCAS confirming his uni place, so we didn't need to log on.

She should have a ucas student Id?

My dd's mental health has taken a nose dive and it's pretty inevitable that she's failed hers. She does not want to go and get them, which is prolonging the agony IMO. It's like the sword of damacles hanging over the house.
Her 6th form should have a pastoral care/university advice line today... Could that help?
Dragonfly101 · 10/08/2021 09:32

DS got his first choice Bournemouth! Still need to get results from school. He can't login so we have to go to school.

NotSorry · 10/08/2021 09:31

@AllTheSingleLadiess

another Birmingham here - what's she studying?

@cptartapp

A, A, B for DS1 to secure his place at Nottingham to do Geography. His GM was killed in a car accident a few years ago and would have been so proud. Can't stop crying. Now just DS2 with GCSE's on Thurs. What a week!
Ds going to Nottingham too :) My late dad would be beside himself with pride too xxx
AllTheSingleLadiess · 10/08/2021 09:28

She got her spot at Birmingham woohoo!

@Laila747

Omg….I don’t even have a DC getting results today but I’m reading these with tears running down my face! Such a hard few years for them all.

Congratulations to everyone that got the places they wanted xx

Thank you x

TottiePlantagenet · 10/08/2021 09:23

We have one kid heading to Bath (maths) and one kid heading for UCL (although she's having second thoughts about her language course).

Congratulations to all the kids for their hard work and extra hand holds for those without the results they needed.

ablutiions · 10/08/2021 09:23

So we are in limbo. UCAS still not updated for DS (and lots of his mates) but he has an email dated early aug with an unconditional from his insurance. So I guess that means he deffo has a place, even if it's not from his firm?

I work in IT and every time I see a shit show like this on a computer system it gives me the rage. They've had all year to plan for this day and still they can't get it right. Totally unacceptable. Adding stress onto stressed people who have already had a rough year is so unfair.

FergusSings · 10/08/2021 09:23

Sorry for those who did not get what they wanted, it will work out in the end, honestly.
