@kittykitty Ugh how horrible for her. They are powerless in this situation.

My DS is the same - would have thrived under normal conditions, the pace of work in school leading up to exams followed by sitting a final exam. This year was like a death of 1000 cuts - so many additional demands that were actually quite counterproductive (at his school). He is adamant that all his submissions were consistently a grade higher in 2 subjects. There is an appeal process but as it's internal it will be an echo chamber - what Head of Department wants to admit that a mistake was made.

He's set on October resits but obviously hasn't had to do any work since May/June. I've called a couple of colleges but he wants to do it on his own. I think he'd benefit from the structure of a college. Either way, he's not going to university this year. Anticlimax is an understatement.

@MMMMMaria good luck to your DD. It's really not fair for 'firmed' universities to delay letting young people know 'yay or nay' until so late in the day (this happened two years ago with DS and Durham).

It’s been 50 years since my results day ( UCL ), and 28 since my daughter’s ( Leeds ) - but will never forget the tension and emotion .
Would have loved an online support thread like this, it’s brought a lump to my throat reading all the messages .

@pistachioicecream that's a weird Covid coincidence! He has applied for Furness and another one - he can't remember! He's doing languages. Hope yours recovers quickly. Mine is coughing quite a lot but ok otherwise so far.🤞🏼

@LoonvanBoon @putthehamsterbackinitscage @tam23 @LIZS @EmmaGrundyForPM @singingstones @NewModelArmyMayhem18 Thank you for your feedback, spoke to their head of year and apparently there are a few students in the same situation so he recommended that we call the Uni directly which we did to be told to email admissions and we are still waiting to hear back from them 😫 DC was diagnosed with ASD at 18 which explained why they never achieved the A’s teachers said they were capable of. Teachers don’t seem to be able to help child get over fear/panic of exams. Extra time is useless for them, just means more panic time. CAMHS useless as she’s a “good child” who never causes problems so we borrowed money to pay for a private therapist this year. £100 each weekly session and it will take some time but DC is working at it - such an amazing trooper who doesn’t deserve this extra level of stress in their life. It is going to be a very long day and I will be having a G&T or wine tonight!!!!

Is she at school / college? Did they do their bits - reference and predicted grades? First step is probably to ask school/college what happened, but it is very late to fix this now.

It's probably still possible to apply and get on a course for September this year but lots of places have been filled so choice will be limited - are there places available in clearing for the subject your DD wants to study?

She might find she's better off applying in the autumn and going to uni in 2022.

(If she is at school/college, they have done a very bad job of explaining the process if she didn't realise there was a problem until now. I mean, so bad that it's hard to comprehend they could be that bad. If this is the case I would be very annoyed with them.)

DS got ADD, which is 96 UCAS points and more than he needed to go to his first choice, Bangor.

Apparently Bangor rang him this morning, but he missed it 🙄 and they haven't phoned back. No email from Bangor.

I've been telling him to get onto UCAS to check his place is confirmed, but he's got his driving theory test now and had to go out for that.

Is he going to lose his place if he doesn't do the Track bit on ucas?

@crossstitchingnana sounds lime her application was not submitted then. She had to input her ps and academic record, choose the courses to apply for then get a reference added by her school/college then submit it. From the outset she woukd have had reference numbers so she should now be able to log in and see what has happened. If her course is still in Clearing it may still be possible to find a place but she needs to act fast. Did her school/college not support her through this or she think it odd she had no offers?

This thread has kept me sane the last few days. DD got into firm (York) Needed AAB. Got A* A B. She was resigned to going to Bangor her insurance and loved it when we visited, so it wouldn’t have been the end of the world - but she was so happy when she got onto track this morning.
Congratulations to our DC, they’ve had a horrible 18 months. Hoping so much they get to fly now.

@kittykitty - same boat here. DS predicted 2 A 2A and got 3 A 1 B and A in EPQ. I know these are objectively good grades but not what he needed or is capable of. Maths is particularly puzzling as he was achieving A submissions across the year and did not bomb the final internal exam.

He's thinking about October resits for 3 (!) subjects which is a massive ask. I think he'll need some kind of guidance, especially as this year has been so hand off already.

For those who replied to my question re UCAS, no she never got any offers. She has not heard a peep.

The grades are clearly not right, close to half of all students getting As??
But if I were a student, I wouldn't care and they still have to get through the next stage of their education anyway. Hopefully by the time they've finished their degrees the top students will have a proper chance to shine above their peers.

DD having checked track first thing so knowing she had her firm has now got her results A* A and B (needed ABB). So all happy, she had looked at clearing last night and picked 5 back up but all have been removed so is extremely relieved. The system doesn’t really help those who are cautious, improve or who self doubt their ability. Adjustment only works if the courses have spaces.

Thank you, mind at rest now. He's bloody brilliant academically but the life skills are a work in progress lol.
