@MadameMinimes yes your right he does not have the confidence to challenge it and his parents just say do what is right for ry you.
If it was my child I would challenge it.

That’s awful. I’m really sorry they are doing that. It’s not legal, but they get away with it because people either don’t know their rights or don’t really know how to challenge this crap.

We are in Northern Ireland so don't know what an epq is.
Hopefully I get to speak to him about it tomorrow but my dd might want me to stay out of it.
They did tell him he not allow do any other course outside school along with the 2 subjects he doing so they really are trying to make him leave. Life is cruel.

What’s not what happened?

They’ve told him that he can no longer continue one of his courses haven’t they? If it’s a linear A Level then that’s not something that they are legally allowed to do.

The reason they aren’t trying to fill up his timetable with epq or something else is because they aren’t trying to secure funding for him this year. They are trying to pressure him to leave. If a school wanted to keep a student that had failed on course, they’d want him to pick up epq or something else to try to make sure they get as much funding as possible. They aren’t doing that because they think that by forcing him down to 2 A Levels he will believe he has no choice but to leave.

They aren’t actually allowed to kick him off a course though, presuming we are talking about a linear A Level and not a BTEC. BTECs can’t be passed if you fail any one unit, so he could conceivably have failed one of those at this stage.

I'm pretty sure he'd have to be doing something else as well to fill the timetable. A btec/work experience /epq

That’s their way of trying to get him to leave without it looking like they’ve illegally excluded him.

Saying that he can’t continue with a course is trying to force him to leave. He should call their bluff and say he’s happy to continue with two and will be sitting a third as a private candidate somewhere else. You will probably find they change their tune.

I don't think schools get funding for someone doing just 2 a levels

School rang him yesterday said he could do 2 of the 3 A level but would advise him to leave and get a job as 2 A level no good.
I totally disagree with this
Lots of Accountancy courses take 1 Alevel and GCSE.
So annoyed school trying to get lower grade students to quit to keep up league tables rather than protecting their education and mental health

@MadameMinimes the annoying thing is they said at the meeting with him and his parents on Monday you MIGHT get back.
There was nothing said like we will let you know or by a date so he just getting really down not knowing.
Things like this really affect people's mental health after the amount of time they where off with lockdown this is terrible way to treat students and their family.
He can't even apply to other college courses as his chosen subject needs Alevel.

If they start at Year 8 then they are covered by the exclusions guidance. Hopefully you are right and they are just trying to give him a wake up call. You’d be surprised how many schools break the law with impunity on this though.

College but it starts at Y8 so I would think it is a school.
I hope it won't come down to this and they where just trying to give him a reality check.
I told my dd to tell him to go in on day back and say nothing if they don't bring it up.
If you try and irritate them it could make it more awkward.

Whether it’s illegal depends on whether he is at a school or a college. The rules on exclusions apply in sixth forms attached to schools, but not to colleges that only educate children above compulsory school age. Compulsory school age is still 16, despite the requirement to stay in education or training until 18 now. If it’s a school sixth form, you can definitely challenge it.

That sounds very stressful @Andi2020. My DS was in year 13 so yes, last exams for him.

@MaddieElla - that was the deadline for priority appeals if you needed the grade for University entrance this year.

Ours wouldn't be a priority appeal so the deadline is 3rd September.

@Countrygirl88 - sorry to hear about your university position. That must be very stressful. How does your son or daughter feel about their clearing option?

I believe the window for appeal is closed now? Midnight yesterday I think.
