Hopefully this thread will appear on TIO! Grin No need to use it til our old thread is done, but at least we have it for when we are ready.

DD is panicking and full of nerves for the UKCAT test she is taking today. Our internet went down yesterday just as she was about to do a mock. Then when we were connected the website jammed and she "failed" two sections.

starfleet · 24/08/2017 07:36

Well done to your DS drummers.

YouTube is also very handy when you need to change a handle on your UPVC window or replace an internal door handle. I've saved a fortune thanks to YT.

raspberryrippleicecream · 23/08/2017 23:54

Congratulations LDR.

And also to the theory pass Blonde

UrsulaPandress · 23/08/2017 23:35

I am not going to ask what a toilet snake is.

Icouldbeknitting · 23/08/2017 21:56

Congratulations on the pass LDR, that means freedom for both of you.

Youtube - I think he spends his time watching other people play video games. I can't say that I understand that at all, I use it for sensible things such as how to use a toilet snake or for a demonstration of something textile related.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 23/08/2017 21:03

She we passed the theory this afternoon. Not ready for test yet as summer born but we are on the way. I'm desperate/terrified as we live in the sticks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2017 20:29

Wow LDR, now comes the scary time!

I think dd spends a lot of her online life in gaming forums talking about gaming. Confused

Lashings, I feel for your dd, I know that there are huge numbers in similar positions though.

Well done on the pass.

Littledrummergirl · 23/08/2017 19:45

Ds1 has been fretting this evening that he hasn't had much time for revision as he's either been busy driving the car or I've been dragging the dc out- yesterday we went to Bletchley park, I loved it.
On a plus note he doesn't have to practice driving anymore because he's only gone and passed!
Just trying to sort insurance now. Shock
I hope your dcs all have a fun few days. Thankfully ds1 isn't a festival fan.

HeyBells · 23/08/2017 19:24

YouTube - as far as I know, things like life hacks, sciency stuff, photography and filming tips, computing stuff, tv catch up. Really could be anything though and I wouldn't know!

starfleet · 23/08/2017 19:22

Skateboardy things usually. Sometimes random interviews with skateboarders and lots of music.

UrsulaPandress · 23/08/2017 18:53

Watch do your DCs watch on YouTube?

voilets · 23/08/2017 18:32

Such a nice thread. Teenagers described all seem very normal to me. Smile

I wish my DD was a stay at home type - Reading feels abit scary!

PS - have double the amount of characters and she's already pruned it. But luckily is sounding like a Spanish and History App now rather than Spanish and politics! As teacher says she almost has too much going on!

Bedroom also a tip but so is her desk! No filing here. Grin

HeyBells · 23/08/2017 18:09

Checking in after a very long time not on this thread, though have been lurking. Dragon my DS doesn't do parties or festivals either and does do YouTube!

Have posted on Uni applications thread as well. DS has been working on EPQ over the summer, I had come to terms with him not doing one, as it's not really necessary, and then he's decided he is going to. It's vaguely related to physics, which is now his choice for uni, so should give him something to put on his personal statement, which is perhaps the motivation?

Feeling a bit anxious about short time of holiday left before year 13 proper and the what about's have to become decisions and actions.

chocolateworshipper · 23/08/2017 17:06

If any one you with DCs doing personal statements get chance, there is a thread in FE asking a question about them which I can't answer. I have invited the poster over here, but don't think they've posted yet.

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/08/2017 11:34

I'm glad dd doesn't do parties or festivals too Grin. I always know where she is and what she's doing (bedroom, watching YouTube mostly), no worries about getting up at silly o'clock to take her anywhere, or the house getting trashed by parties.

I'm glad so many others are similar with the beautifully organised files and folders sitting in a health hazard chaotic bedroom, while ignoring the things that actually need to be done, like personal statements. It makes me feel so much better. And to be fair, I have a beautiful file of notes for the new A level syllabus, sitting in my own pit of a room (it's a classroom though, and I'm only just moving into it next week), while ignoring what actually needs to be done (UCAS references for the class I taught last year). So I can see where she gets it from.

starfleet · 23/08/2017 11:07

The rain has trickled down to a drizzle here...Leeds is forecast to have decent weather after today according to our weather apps.

DS had the intention of drafting his PS over the holidays but unsurprisingly hasn't even made a start. He has a few days next week to put something together before he goes back to school.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 23/08/2017 10:56

Oh, can I join? Another one here with DD off to Reading festival. Theory test this afternoon (gulp)
First draft of PS done but don't think it's been looked at since. No AS grades here so still don't know what the predicted grades will be. In fact, I feel like I'm the one getting ready for uni as little miss laid back is very casual about it all. Didn't even go and pick up result for EPQ last week, said 'ah, it'll wait a couple of weeks'

Icouldbeknitting · 23/08/2017 10:48

DS has his scripts waiting for him, we went in on Friday and they rang yesterday (Tuesday) to say that they were ready. I have a letter giving me authority to deal with the exams office in his absence but I'm giving myself a short break from parenting this week and they can stay where they are until he gets back.

LoniceraJaponica · 23/08/2017 09:44

Thunder and torrential rain in South Yorkshire today. It is so dark that we need the lights on.

Why on earth do some people love this kind of weather?

PandaG · 23/08/2017 09:25

Non festival going teen here too. He's written notes for PS, (which in note form are over 4000 characters!) but not actually drafted it yet.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 23/08/2017 09:22

kitten thanks for getting us all up and running again Halo

Well, we are back from hols & DD has ripped the dreaded results envelope open! She got ACCC. She's very happy with the A but disappointed with one C as was predicted an A, so not sure what happened there! I have been getting her scripts back & working through the UMS like a loon as she wants one paper remarked as 1 point off a B. Did I really have a holiday?? Feels like I'm back in the thick of it again already!

PS - one sort of draft done, but DD still absorbing her results, so no chance of getting her to concentrate on 2nd draft yet, which would make life a bit easier (sigh)

Icouldbeknitting · 23/08/2017 08:09

I think we are the other side of the mountains to you Ursula, it's a bit grey and grim here but not wet.

It was dry between 2-4.30am this morning but the flashes of lightening were a bit disconcerting in all that darkness. One of the organisers was very perky and admitted that he hadn't bothered going to bed and when I was thirty years younger I probably wouldn't have bothered either. There were parents stood at the side of the road presumably waiting to wave the coach off but I saw DS onto it and I was off. Driving home I was telling myself that my reward for the effort I've put into the musical child will be if he's holding an offer of EE before Christmas and I can sit out the whole firm and insurance business.

It's either coffee or another hour in bed and the promise of a nap this afternoon.

UrsulaPandress · 23/08/2017 07:43

It is pouring with rain here. It is going to be one wet and muddy festival. She has Gold DofE expedition the weekend after next. Rather her than me.
