Unfortunately DD can't consider Sheffield as her school did a couple of early entry GCSEs at the end of year 10 and one in January 2011, and Sheffield won't accept any applications from students who didn't sit all of their GCSEs in one sitting.

Sheffield ukcat score for entry was comparatively low for medicine last year if that helps.

Medicine. She does have a back up plan though.

I have friends who do a lot of festivals, probably three weekends out of four from the spring through to autumn. For years he went on his own (fewer than they do now otherwise they would have divorced). DW went to one after which she set out a few conditions. They bought a camper van - everyone is happy. She gets clean toilets and a shower and he gets to see more of his wife.

He has some anxiety issues around hygiene and germs, so this will certainly push him outside his comfort zone.

DD is struggling with the toilets. Last year she was in the VIP bit.

This year it's a plank over a pit.

I'm expecting a call any time soon to collect her.

Well done to your DD, but I thought taking GCSEs in two lots was frowned upon now.

DD took 2 in year 10 and is now finding it is making it more difficult for her to apply to some universities.

Haha, another one with an over invested DM here. DD2 (year 10) got 4 GCSE's yesterday and did brilliantly but my mother posted the actual results on facebook. So cringy. Luckily she hasn't got too many 'friends' and doesn't know how to tag DD
I swear when I did my GCSE's they were pleased but nowhere near as over the top.

Thank you Lobster. She was quite pleased with how it went, but disappointed that the result probably won't be high enough for her (until now) first choice of university. We need to book some more open days now that we have more of an idea of what the universities require from her.

Does anyone have any idea of UKCAT minimum requirements for 2018 entry? I have been frantically googling.

Inchy your mil sounds like mine - except mine posted on her fb wall (with all of us tagged) asking for DD's results! Cringe

I politely replied that dd would phone her later, but obviously it sparked a succession of relatives, friends and nosy well meaning neighbours and acquaintances asking what she'd got and which uni she was off to

Bit of an anti climax for them all when I explained it was only AS results and she still had a year to go.

Both sets of grandparents here seem way more over invested interested in their grandchildrens' results than they ever were in mine and DH's. (though probably just because there's a much higher chance of them doing well!!)

Ds2 picked up his one GCSE result today and was thrilled to get a C. It was a foundation paper so he did brilliantly. Argh, next year is going to be a rollercoaster.

Does anyone have any experience of the Maths AEA (Advanced Extension Award)? My DS was put in for it by the school and got a U. As far as I can see he needn't have taken it. But now he will have to declare the result on his UCAS application which won't look good will it? I guess my question is do you think the universities will look at this poor grade if he has 2 A* predicted in Maths anyway? Anyone else failed this exam and applying to study maths at university?

Which brings me back to the main reason DH doesn't want to let DD have her 18th at home!!! The blocked toilet.

Wish me luck. Taking him out for a birthday lunch and going to broach the subject............ Maybe I should buy him a toilet snake (actually, he probably already has one).

Panicking slightly as not heard from DD yet today.

My toilet snake story - the ensuite shower drain gurgled when the toilet was flushed. Plumber diagnosed "a blockage somewhere" which meant the system couldn't vent properly and when the volume of water went down, the same volume of air was taking the easiest exit through the system. I womened up and went down the toilet with the appropriate tool, poured drain unblocker down the ensuite drain and gave up.

Fast forward eighteen months (drain still gurgling) to when next door's drain cover started seeping. It took two professionals a day and a half with the self propelled jet hose and the camera and dye to clear a massive blockage somewhere below next door but one. My snake and drain cleaner was never ever going to tackle the cause of the gurgle.

Babywipes - don't flush them. Not unless you're only renting for a year in which case do what you want and leave the consequences for someone else.

Apart from my 2 sisters, no-one in RL has asked me how DD did last week.

Sometimes it's sad, sometimes it's easier, but I'm very grateful for MN and you lot!

On matters completely unrelated to our (almost) Y13s, I have just received at text from MIL asking if DD2 has had her result for the half GCSE she did this year. They got up early to make sure they had breakfast "before the results came in". half a frigging GCSE. What on earth are they going to be like next year, when we will have not only a full batch of GCSEs for DD2, but actual important A Levels. Give me strength. She's been on the phone in tears twice about how pleased they are for DD1 about her results, and how precious the DDs are to them. I know I should be grateful they care, but they are so completely over invested it terrifies me. Sharing here, because obviously I need to smile and nod to them, and tell them we value their advice and support.

Thanks kitten - really don't know if Unis DD has earmarked will be within her reach now with predicted grades etc - she's worried now & needs some teacher input to help her know what went wrong on her other predicted A grade.

Congratulations on driving theory & test passes everyone. DD's test is next week, so hoping she'll start to feel more positive for it after AS grades.
