New Year 12 starters parent support thread (snappy title eh?)

OK - Am I the first failure?

It's a funny feeling I suppose, DD leaves tomorrow and I sometimes I look at how far she has come and I'm overwhelmed at the struggles she's had for her age and I'm very proud of her. As she turns 18 this month I'm very sure she will achieve her dreams.
Kind of makes you emotional although I know she is not looking forward to going back but we have to make the best of what we have

I feel much more emotional than I thought I would. I still have dcs3and 4 at home but felt really emotional watching Dd1 walk into huge new school after years at a tiny one. I felt the same as I did when she went to primary school for the first time!

DD headed off this morning with a smile on her face and a spring in her step. She's really excited. I'm so, so happy for her after a tough few years.

Dropped DS off. There were a few nerves. However an upper six girl is going to look out for him, and it can't do his street cred any harm by being chaperoned by a pretty girl ( boys school, coed six form).

Still feel a little sad that he's not seeing school 1 all the way through, but hope he settles down well and does well at school 2. I've got those same fears that I'm sure thousands of year 7 mum's, and reception mums are having today, and surprisingly feel quite emotional. Didn't expect that.

Good luck to all of you having a new start today (and those who have already gone back). I suggested to DS that he could get up early this morning to show support to his two friends who go back today, it seemed to be the best joke I've made in ages.

We are going out for breakfast (because we can), then popping over to college for an audition then we are going to spend the rest of the day/week playing Ingress. As I am a tryhard I will be switching between that and Pokémon Go and attempting to not walk into street furniture.

Dd has just left. She doesn't normally leave till 8, but she's arranged to meet friends early so she was up, dressed, etc ready to leave by 7:30. She hasn't even got any lessons today, just form periods this morning and study period this afternoon.

Yes, good luck everyone. DS is proudly walking around in his sixth form jumper and tie ready to grab the coveted back seat position on the bus . Seems like a long time since he was one seat back from the driver. He's really looking forward to starting study, I hope that lasts when he realises how much harder the work is going to be!

DD starts back tomorrow. Sixth form at her old school. She's moaning about going back but I think looking forward to starting her courses.

DD is looking to going back and seeing her remaining friends shes still being whining today questioning if it's worth staying there. I didn't sugar coat it and told her she has to make the best of what she has and you can achieve anything with hardwork and determination
Still not packed her suitcase I presume she'll do it tomorrow

Ds1 starts Wednesday. I think he's looking forward to catching up properly with his mates.

Dc1 starts tomorrow and dc2 on Wednesday (different schools). Dc1 seems calm now about starting new school and six form. He seemed nervous yesterday.

Very best of luck to everyone with DCs starting this week. DD starts next week - as if she hasn't had enough time off!

DD starts tomorrow, Sixth Form at her old school. She organized her wardrobe over the summer and has her first week's outfits picked out!
Fingers crossed for everyone's DC, onwards and upwards.

DD has induction tomorrow and officially starts on Wednesday. She has sorted her school bag and is now deciding on which outfit to wear. Same school since Year 8 but she is looking forward to her best friend joining the school and all of the special privileges.

DS2 doesn't start until Wednesday at about 12. So I'll be at work when he has to catch his first bus on his own. Scary.

NoHaudin, I would hazard a guess that there might be a few less than NT DC at your DDs specialist maths school. Hopefully they'll be sympathetic to those who struggle with the social side of things.

Goes fast doesn't it. DD is back Tuesday to start on the Wednesday. Last year went by so quickly. DD is still in boarding house sixth form is in boarding house but separate wings she's excited to have a sink.

Just dropped DS off at school. He's in a single room next door to his best mate. Seems very strange that this is his last year in his boarding house, yr 13 have their own supervised mixed house.
Seems like only yesterday we were dropping him off in yr 7 😱

Dd starts tomorrow. New 6th form. She's a bit nervous but looking forward to it, especially now she has the trainers and backpack that she wanted!

DS is back tomorrow. He's still finishing his homework, funnily enough it's taking longer than he expected. Hmm that'll be A levels for you. Hopefully he'll be in the zone for working now he's had to catch up.

Just year 12 and 7 tomorrow so he's been asked by local mums to keep an eye out for their new starters and make sure they get on the bus ok. I remember that-someone did the same for him. Seems like yesterday!

When DS started there was no separate day so he's intrigued as to what they'll do as he thinks the Y12 are nearly all returners and they did team building etc on the induction days. So presumably it'll be find out which tutor group, get timetable do lessons.
